Sunday Post #108

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

Well the first full week of September is here and gone. Last week I reviewed Eight Hundred Grapes, a book I won in a giveaway- and really liked. My readalong of A Dance With Dragons continued here. The weather this week started out hot, then cooled off the last few days- definitely feels like fall is in the air. I love this time of year- cider and fall colors and all the rest. There are some fun fall- themed readathons and such coming up- looking forward to those.

This week I'm not sure what I'll be reviewing yet- several books I've been looking forward to have come out, and a few others caught my eye. So I moving things around a bit. Wednesday will A Dance with Dragons day for the foreseeable future as I continue my re- read there.

Here are the week's pics.

  1. I love fall too! I'm sick of summer, but I really like nice fall days with crisp air and sun and CIDER YES. OMG that Star Wars stuff haha. I was like FRANKFURT IS SO CLOSE TO ME ARE THEY ACTUALLY FILMING THERE. Then I read the comments. So much disappointment. Looking forward to the new movie! And I haven't seen Mad Max: Fury Road yet, but I definitely want to.

    1. Cider is the best! Although this is the only time of year I drink it, LOL. Glad you liked that video, I thought it was really cool!

  2. That bookstore makes me want to go in and just buy armloads of books! Not that I need that much encouragement for that. We are cooling down here though it seems really early. I was planning on going swimming this weekend but I think I'd freeze! We're very excited about the new Star Wars movie here and you've got me wanting to give Arrow a try. Have a great week!

    1. I know what you mean, I love finding indie bookstores. We're cooling down too, very quickly! Yikes. Arrow is fun, the writing is a bit silly at times, but it's a good show.

  3. I love the vid of the tie-fighter at the side of the road, ha, those poor Storm Troopers. They do have to put up with some crap!!

I love Tintin, I made my kids watch an old episode I found on Netflix, it was just as good as I remembered!

    1. Me too, that cracked me up. They did a pretty good job with it! I like Tinti too, I have a few of the books and they're a lot of fun.

  4. Tokyo Kill was good! As I recall, I gave it 4 stars. I should see when the next one is coming out.

Love how blue the sky is in your photographs, sigh. Out weather has been oscillating between 90s and 70s. Make up your mind Mother Nature! :D

    Happy reading!

    1. You too! I saw Tokyo Kill at your site and added it to my list, but never got it. Saw it the other day and thought I gotta read that! :)

We're cooling off too, although today was beautiful. I'm ready for fall, I guess...

  5. You are going into Fall and we into Spring, like you I love Fall colours. I have never watched the Divergent etc movies, read the books but never been brave enough to watch the movies - much to the amusement of my students when I was teaching. Love your pics, always a sucker for bookstores and love that last one too.

  6. Do you know what the crops are being grown in the middle of your pictures Greg?

And thanks for sharing the review of Eight Hundred Grapes. I'm off to check it out now as it's a book I'm thinking of reading!

  7. I love ambient soundtracks - I find they help me concentrate when I'm reading. It sounds odd but the Dragon Age soundtracks work for me then too. I think because they're instrumental. Have a great week :)

  8. I want that pile of rocks for my garden! I love smoothed stones like those. Keep the Star Wars stuff coming. I always come back around Sunday afternoons and follow the links. I love fall, I just wish it was a longer season. Here in Upstate New York it usually only lasts about a month-month and 1/2. Have a terrific week. :)

  9. Loving the Star Wars. Nice haul this week, and waterspouts are so cool to look at. Hope you enjoy your re-reads :) Have a nice week Greg :)

  10. Ooooo, Stoker and Holmes! Have you been reading those? I've been wanting to start that series but I keep forgetting!!! I really need to go thru my TBR and refresh my memory on a lot of books that I'm sure are at the library now! Enjoy!!!

  11. I am waiting on this fall weather, that I think we got today! The heat this week was unbearable and I am longing for those cool days and chilly nights. Last night I realized at 7:30 it was dark out already and I thought it was later so Winter is Coming :)

I loved the first Stoker and Holmes and have the next two which I plan to devour during the 24 hour dewey read-a-thon. They are such good books! A little mix of everything.

Your pictures are awesome and I would love to live around places like that, it looks so quiet and nice.

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  12. The Stoker Holmes series sounds really interesting, I hope you enjoy it!

  13. I like fall, but the only thing I don't like about it is it's a prelude to winter which I hate. I would rather the whole year be spring and fall and we skip the really hot and the really cold. :) Hope you enjoy your upcoming books!

  14. I agree, fall is a great season, when the weather cools, and the trees change color, and it gets darker earlier so we have an excuse for staying inside with a hot drink and just curl up with a good book :D
Lovely pictures as always, Greg, I especially like the one with the little waterfalls :)
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

  15. I'm not a huge fan of fall (it is a harbinger of doom...winter) but I love apple cider and stocked up when my grocery store had a sale this weekend.

I'm not sure if I will watch Legends of Tomorrow. Maybe I'll give it a chance but I feel like I get my fill of superhero shows with Arrow and The Flash. I liked the trailer for the new season of Arrow. Looks promising.

    1. I'm looking forward to the new Arrow. I;m still playing catch up though, watching season three at Amazon. It will be hard to go from binge watching to weekly episodes. :)

I love cider too this time of year, our store carries it year round but for some reason I only drink it in the fall. :)

  16. I love Fall and miss the Autumn-type season, which isn't really here where I live (though the temps drop and the night is cool and delightful for dog walks).
I just downloaded the excerpt about The Chess Queen, so thanks for the tip!
Loved your photos-- for some reason the fountain one really caught my eye and was so peaceful looking.

  17. Great photos and trailers! Thanks for sharing. I am curious about The Incident on the Bridge.

Have a great week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  18. I love your pictures for this week!! The weather here has been hot and is now cooling down. Hopefully we'll both stick with good weather we can enjoy. I can't wait to watch Legends of Tomorrow! Good thing it doesn't premiere until next year or else I wouldn't get any reading done with a full Fall TV schedule to watch lol. Have a great week!

  19. Spring is my favorite time of year, but after all these hot ass days I'm so looking forward to the low 80s and 70s. In fact, I've finally been able to turn off the A/C and open the windows today. Yay! Love your pics!

  20. You always post great pictures! Our weather was the same as yours last week...it started hot, then cooled down. Now, it's supposed to go back to being hot just when I thought we were getting fall weather.

I hope you have a great week!

  21. Lovely pictures. Is that Traverse City, M?. I grew up in Michigan and visited there many times years ago. We had a cooler weekend but it will go back to hot in the next couple of days. I'm thinking of seeing Mad max. I loved the old movie and this one looks fun too. Lots of nice books this week too!

    1. Thanks, you too! I like that show, I just started watching season 3. Netflix doesn't have season 3 so I have to buy the episodes at amazon. Ugh. Still I have to get my Arrow fix. :) I see they're doing some things different in this season.

  23. I'm definitely looking forward to the cooler weather! Today was lovely (finally!) - 60s and low 70s with a perfect breeze. I celebrated with cider.

Nice photos! And you've got some good books coming up. I've got the new Tasha Alexander too, and I'm looking forward to the Colleen Gleason if I can get hold of a copy. So far, my library doesn't have it in the catalog. But then, they don't have the new Rick Riordan in the catalog either, and they come out on the same day.

  24. It is definitely starting to feel like fall here. Also, the trees are just starting to change. I am so excited for it to really happen (first fall out of FL)! I love the pictures you shared, especially the waterfall. Oh and I hope you enjoy Insurgent. I know a lot of people didn't like it. I did get their point, but the ending, OMG. I am looking forward to your review for Need, still.

  25. I like apples but fall just means winter to me. I resent having to wear more clothes.
The Star Wars video is hilarious. Love the Dustbuster on the tarmac.

  26. Looking forward to my first sip of cider this fall. I first have it cold then hot! Love the up north pictures. Have a great week.

  27. Fall is definitely coming here as well. Predictions say rain the whole week.
Great pictures as always, especially the one with the sort of waterfalls.
    Have a great week!

  29. I just want to jump into your photos this week - so beautiful and inviting!

Also glad to know you liked Eight Hundred Grapes. It's been on my wish list ever since it was released. Hope I can get to it sooner rather than later.

    Have a great week!

  30. I love your photos of up north every week! My brother and I were talking about the big trip to the U.P. we are going to take together with our families in a few years - we will do the smaller forays up north until then, but we plan on spending a good few weeks in the U.P.

Wow, water spouts! We don't see those around here too often. We are on the Detroit River, I wonder if its possible to have them there or not.

    Have a great week!

  31. It's always nice when you win a book and you enjoy it. I did win a book this week, but it was just okay, still happy I won it though. The weather is also cooling down here a bit, which is nice, I am looking forward to autumn!
Those pictures look great! It looks like a great place to live.

I am looking forward to the new star wars movie, although I try not to get my hopes up too much as I liked the prequel series more than the original series and this one will continue the latter plot lines. I'll have to check out that star wars ambience music!

    Have a great week!

  32. The Incident on the Bridge looks intriguing. Enjoy your reads this week , the fall weather, and hopefully some cider!

  33. Fall arrive here today as well. It was so cool this morning that I debated turning the heat on in the house. I'm holding out and making do with a little space heater so far though. I'm a wimp about cold weather!

Your pictures are beautiful! Enjoy your week!

  34. As always I love your photos, Greg! And the cover of the new Colleen Gleason book is really nice. Lots of great clips I need to explore, too. I saw a funny Star Wars parody on SNL. Always fun to catch things like that. I'm loving the cooler almost fall weather here, too!

  35. The Chess Queen Engima looks quite good, I'll have to look into it more. Love the photos! They make me dream of vacation.
It's sort of ridiculous how many times Star Wars has been "fixed" for one reason or another.
