Girls #11

Girls #11

Okay this is fucked up. This issue opens with a shit ton of "girls" converging on the McAllister house. They're getting in through windows and it doesn't look good. The terror and violence are very well done- after several issues of the "girls" hardly being around, the ferocity here is like turned up to eleven. The really scary part is when they mimic the pleas of the people they're killing. Ying-ma decides to lock herself and a couple others in a closet, leaving the rest to their fate. What would people do in a situation like this?

Meanwhile, some of the guys who got knocked out try to help. Rob the redneck kinda cracks me up.

"... you'd think colliding with a stampede of naked chicks would be a good thing."

The situation at the house, though, is not good. Sally accidentally kills Pattie while fighting, Merv finds fire (what's with him and fire?), and Ted has to decide whether to shoot a "girl". They scare 'em off though with gunfire, but Shelly is gone too, after having been killed. And the last page... Wes and his crew see the "girls" dragging prisoners into the cornfield. Serious Children of the Corn vibes here.

This week I'm going rogue. I decided to go with Top Ten (or close enough) games to while away the time in quarantine/ shelter-in-place/ whatever we're calling the imposed isolation. So... game on!!

Song Lyrics #37

Loverboy! I remember when this song kinda summed up life.

Everyone's watching to see what you will do
Everyone's looking at you, oh
Everyone's wondering will you come out tonight
Everyone's trying to get it right, get it right

Everybody's working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody's goin off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

Everyone's looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone's hoping it'll all work out
Everyone's waiting they're holding out

Everybody's working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody's goin off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

The good news this week is my cousin is better. Her husband got it as well but so far the kids haven't. They had completely different symptoms too- she had the respiratory stuff and the feeling of being super hot, while he had primarily muscle aches and the pain they talk about. Both are feeling much better though from what I understand. It's weird knowing two people who've had it- even though it's of course widespread it's still surreal until it hits close to home.

Anxiety is of course sky high since no one knows if they're going to catch this thing. It really does feel like the end of the world at times- I mean, no one knows how long it'll last, do you get immune once you've had it, will social distancing work- and more importantly- how long do we have to distance? Could the world be a permanently changed place going forward? And since no one even knew this virus existed four months ago we don't have answers! For myself I've been finding solace in online games, primarily Star Wars: The Old Republic.

It's relaxing in the sense that when I'm in that world I'm not worrying about coronavirus. How is everyone else coping?

I had to DNF the new Andromeda book- just wasn't feeling it after a few chapters- so I'm on to the Killing November sequel. I'm still thinking of setting up a Lost Horizon read-along so if anyone's interested let me know. La La in the Library has already expressed interest, so yay! I was also thinking of setting up a Twitter party- book related- or some kind of other readalong or whatever that a bunch of us could do, just to take minds off the horribleness. If anyone has ideas I'm game.
