Top Ten Books I Loved But Will Never Re- Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by

This week is Top Ten Books I loved but will never re- read.

Letters from Skye

I liked this a lot but can't see re- reading it, it's just one of those books that left a good impression but I don't want to revisit.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

I'm glad I read this but I wouldn't read it again. As much as I love the concept I found it kinda boring??

Jurassic Park (Jurassic Park, #1)

Loved it but probs not going to read it again.

Divergent (Divergent, #1)

I enjoyed it but never did finish book three. And there's always the movie if I want to re- experience it.

Glow (Sky Chasers, #1)

I liked this book too, the second one was okay, and again it's a series where I never read the conclusion.

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick (Perry & Gobi, #1)

Fun book but probably won't read it again?

Perry's Killer Playlist (Perry & Gobi, #2)

Same here- the sequel to Au Revoir.

The Silmarillion (Middle-Earth Universe)

I love the history and lore of Middle-earth but this one is dense, y'all. I think once is enough, and I still have the Appendices and Unfinished Tales if I need more.

A good book but probably wouldn't tackle this one a 2nd time

  1. I don't think I'd reread Divergent either. Although I didn't hate Allegiant I wasn't overly satisfied with the ending.

    1. I liked Divergent, the second one was okay, but yeah- not finishing the third one, I probably won't revisit.

  2. I've never really felt the urge to read all the Middle Earth history in all these other books. I was interested enough in LOTR but my dad warned me how dense and hard going these were so I avoided them!

    1. The Silmarillion was once was enough for me

  3. I feel like everyone hates Divergent these days because of how book 3 ended. I find I still enjoy the series! It was pretty awesome and it had an ending I never expected. Divergent works well as a standalone almost though! You can just pretend they're headed for a better future and leave it at that! Lol!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. I actually like Divergent (book and movie) but I totally get what you mean- Allegiant seems to give a bad rap. I should read the ending someday lol. But I agree- if I did re- read it would maybe just be the first book, and let my imagination go from there?

  4. Cray European Chick definitely caught my attention! Best title ever!

    1. It is definitely one of the better titles I've come across!

  5. I still want to read 20 000 Leagues under the Sea but I think I might have an unabridged version haha, which is probably where the boring comes in.

    1. Yeah I'm glad to read it but would never again!

  6. I liked the Glow books okay, too, but I haven't read the third one. I do plan to though. I plan a Hobbit and LotR re-read starting this year. Will I ever re-read it again? Who knows. Nice list!

    1. Yeah Glow was good! The second one okay but I just never got to the 3rd. If you do re- read let me know, I might be in for that!

  7. You know, I read Divergent but never read the rest of the series. So I have tried to reread it to refresh my memory so I can read the rest, but I just can't seem to get interested once I start it.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I get it. Not sure how I would do on a re- read either! I liked the first two but the last one- lost me.

  8. I have never read Jurassic Park but I love the movie. The Divergent movies aren't very good. They don't follow the books very well but I think the first book and movie are the most similar. Great list.

    1. I took a long time to read the book of Jurassic Park and it was actually quite good. I agree- I liked the first book and movie of Divergent, and the second was okay- that third movie tho was horrible!

  9. The only one I've read is Divergent and while I liked it at the time, I'm not so sure now. I think the movies ruined it for me. I love the Jurassic Park movies but not sure about reading the book. Great list!

    1. I liked the Jurassic Park book but probs wouldn't read it again. Not because it's bad tho. And Divergent- I actually liked both the books and movie of #s 1 and 2, but just haven't made it through 3 yet!

  10. I seldom re-read anymore, I think I just don't have the time and have so many books in my TBR pile that I can't justify doing it. Kind of sad in a way but not at the same time. And don't even get me started on how many series and trilogies I've never finished even though I loved books one and two LOL!

    1. Same here. And yes I have read so many books one and two and never finished- Divergent is just one example!

  11. I would totally reread Jurassic Park if I had time, although it might be hard having seen the movie so many times. But I remember tons of cools details in the book that didn't make it to the movie😊

    1. That's true, and I loved both the book AND movie. the movie is one of my favorites!!

  12. I read Jurassic Park YEARS ago - not sure if I would reread it, though, I think I'd rather watch the movies!

  14. I really want to read Letters from Skye. I stumbled across it in the library one day but still haven't picked it up.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  15. I probably wouldn't read Divergent again either.

  16. I never read the Divergent series and don't think I ever will. Someone ruined the end for me.
I am not a big re-reader, so many books in this world I just can't see myself re-reading a book just because. Jurassic Park I never read but I did love the movie! :)

  17. I often read the first book in a series and stop because I like it and don't want the sequels to wreck it. I understand about Divergent. Plus once the movie comes out what is the point? My TTT

  18. I’m with you on Divergent. I enjoyed it at the time but I know I’ll never reread it. I actually read the whole trilogy... and kind of wish Roth had stopped after book two. Or even book one. LOL

  19. I could never finish book one of Lord of the Rings and I heard The Silmarillion is a waaaay heavier read so when it comes to Tolkien I stay with The Hobbit. I've read that one many times and I don't give a fig the reason why it's more readable is because it was written for children XD

    1. The Silmarillion IS way heavier, almost too much. I love the lore but that book... and the Hobbit is amazing kids book or not!

  20. I get you about some. I liked them but I know I won't read them so usually I give them to friends

  21. I'm not a re-reader. Once I experience a book, I'm happy. There are just too many good books out there I still need to read!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I did re-read Divergent but that was before the final book came out. Having read that, it unfortunately ruined the series a bit for me so I probably will never re-read again.

  23. I read Divergent years ago when it first became popular but never picked it up since. The series took a bad turn by the time the third book rolled around and I was never quite satisfied with the ending. That, combined with the movies which completely butchered the books, have kinda turned me off of the series.

  24. I never read the Divergent series - just wasn't interested. I am curious about Letters from Skye though.

  25. Much as I did enjoy the films, I don't see myself ever reading the Divergent books. I like the stories in the films, so that's good enough for me. :)

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland, Greg.

  26. I haven't read any of those but I have watched the Divergent movies.

  27. I definitely agree on The Silmarillion. It's one of those that I'd theoretically like to re-read, but it probably won't ever happen. There are plenty of other Tolkien works to read also, haha. I also feel the same about 20,000 Leagues--super glad I read it, but not going to pick it up again.

    1. Same here. I'm glad I read it, but doing it again... probably not! And yeah once was enough for 20,000.

  28. I read Divergent and really enjoyed it, but never got around to the sequel.

    1. I liked the sequel (a bit less) but the third one I just got bored. Even though I know the spoiler I'd kinda like to finish it, but dunno if I ever will.

  29. I feel that way about a lot of Crichton's books. I've read and enjoyed all of them...but I don't know that I'd revisit any? Maybe a couple of the old classics if I'm traveling/on vacation because they're reliably entertaining, but not for any reason more than that.

    1. Yeah I've only read Jurassic Park I think? but not sure I'd revisit. Still I did enjoy it.

  30. Mad props for making it through The Silmarillion! I've attempted it oh, only a mere EIGHT TIMES and never once even made it halfway through! I've grown up enough that I think I'm just going to admit defeat at this point haha!

    1. Thanks!!Yeah some books I just can't make my way through either, it happens! Once was enough for me with The Silmarillion, it's VERY dense and as much as I love the Middle- earth lore, it's almost too much!

  31. Good point about Divergent. I enjoyed that (and loved Four) but I'm not going near that series again unless I wind up watching the movies on Freeform or something. I need to reread Jurassic Park, though. :)

    1. Ha ha right? Some books once is enough :)

  32. But do you really want to rewatch the Divergent movies? Haha- now THAT would be a good "Movies That Suck" contestant. I honestly don't think I'd read basically any books over again (except The Hunger Games, of course) because I am mostly afraid I wouldn't like them as much the second time around? So I just like to leave my memories of them unscathed hah.

    1. You know I actually like the first two. Although... yeah that's not a bad idea. :) And yeah I'm not big on re- reading, there's just too many new!

  33. I tried to read JURASSIC PARK so hard in 5th grade, but I could never get past the first 100 pages. It was a lot of science and not action and I couldn't follow it at that age-- even though I gave it at least 3 decent tries. So, I'll probably just leave it on my list of fails and enjoy watching the dinosaurs on TV.

    1. Ha ha right? I could NEVER get through that book in 5th grade, good grief. I'd much rather just watch the show!

  34. I would love to reread the Divergent series if it wasn't for the last book. The movies though are completely different though.

    1. Yeah that seems to be the consensus. Although I actually liked the first two movies, but the third... no.

  35. Most of the books that I loved but don't want to reread tend to be long. I wouldn't mind rereading Jurassic Park at some point though, but then Crichton books are always a joy no matter what.

    1. Yeah same- I didn't mind Divergent, and weirdly enough I really like the first two movies, which I know is not necessarily a popular opinion!

  37. I forgot to add Divergent to my list (and we just re-watched the first movie over the weekend lol). I liked the series and wasn't happy with the ending. I can't go through that disappointment again lol.

    1. How did the movie hold up? I kinda liked the first two... I've heard that a lot about the ending and frankly that is keeping me from finishing it!

  38. I do to reread, but some stories (even when enjoyed) are definitely meant to have just the one reading experience.

I've never actually read the Jurassic Park book; love the films.

  39. I've actually never read Jurassic Park *hides face*. My brother harasses me from time to time but I'm not sure if I'll ever pick it up. It's not exactly my thing even though I loved the movie. Fabulous list!

  40. I don't think I even realized that Jurassic Park was a book until well after the movie came out! I can relate to not wanting to reread certain books because of the denseness. I think that's how I feel about Woman in White. It was wonderful but so dense!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I loved Jurassic Park, but I'll probably never reread - I will definitely rewatch the movies though! :D

    ReplyDelete
  42. I definitely agree with you about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was fascinating but yet boring all at the same time, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I feel that the way you do about Divergent with The Hunger Games. I am content revisiting the series via the movies, if I want. Someday I would like to read Silmarillion, but the density is what keeps putting me off . . .

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, I've re-read Divergent because it was the best book of the series, but the rest soured me on it, and now I won't re-read it again.
