Sunday Post #191

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

It was a nice week weather- wise - finally! Lots of sun and even some nice temperatures. We hit 70's a few times. Nice to have the windows open at night and a breeze coming in. I'm still on a roll with my reading- I've been lucky that most of my reads have been pretty good. Is it me or is there a ton of good psychological thrillers out right now? I've been reading a lot of these. I read Blood Tide this week and Gone Without A Trace as well. I also reviewed Radio Silence this past week.

I re- posted a review of Planet of Exile, which is one of my favorite books, and my review for Gemina will be up on Monday. Oh and killer mermaid news. As I've only mentioned a zillion times on this blog, I like merfolk stories and this week I got two very happy surprises. One is a show and one is a book. The book I saw over at Books, Bones and Buffy. Thanks Tammy!

  2. I've hit a bit of a slump, taking ages to get through my last book. I'm closing in on 100 reads for the year and want that done this weekend!

  8. Yay to The Last Jedi teaser! I'm sooooo excited for it :)

I'm also really curious about Into the Drowning Deep. I like the stuff the author writes under her real name Seanan McGuire way more than the horror she writes under Mira Grant, but I have to admit this one looks very cool.

  12. Your weather sounds so nice, Greg. We had to turn on the air conditioner today. These last two days the temps have been in the 90's. It's too soon for hot weather! I'm not ready.

I agree--lots of great sounding psychological thrillers coming out right now. I am in a cozy phase, but I'm sure I'll be diving into the others soon enough.

A friend at work was just telling me about Siren. It looks like it will be good.

Are you ready for the new Star Wars movie or are you feeling a bit nervous about it? We watched Rogue One again today and it's still as good as it was when I saw it in the theater.

I hope you have a great week, Greg!

  15. Hooray for good weather - finally. It's supposed to hit the 90's here this week. I am so not ready. I don't think I've ever read a mermaid book. I own a YA series by Anna Banks, The Syrena Legacy, that is about merfolk but I've yet to read it. Hope the new show and the new books are hits for you!

  17. Glad your weather is improving - it certainly warms up fast in your neck of the woods - we are hitting 60s some days, but we have had a lot of sunshine and a long dry spell - to the extent that we actually could do with some rain. But it is such a beautiful time of year in this country with all the new leaves and spring flowers erupting. I find as each year passes, I am more and more moved by the spring...
Loved your review of RADIO SILENCE and seriously jealous about INTO THE DROWNING DEEP which looks fabulous. Have a great week and many thanks for some fantastic pics! My Sunday Post - https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/04/23/sunday-post-23rd-april-2017/

  21. lucky you and your good weather!!! It has been chilly and rainy here although the sun is out today. Maybe it will turn around now. Yay for a good reading week and good books. I need to read more thrillers - I have some request books like that coming up so I should get my fill. Happy reading and have a great week!

  22. I saw the trailer for Siren on FB this week, it looks like it could be more horror than little mermaid cute. I actually want to watch it. Might be a little excited about it lol

It's only suppose to rain one day this week and be like 80 on Friday. I might need to put the AC back in the windows.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  23. Oooo Into the Drowning Deep looks amazing!!! And I love merfolk tales as well. :)

This weather has been so awesome. I love it!

  25. Glad you got some warm weather, we actually had a really nice day here yesterday. I wen tot he park and ate and ice cream and everything. Always nice to be able to leave the house and not have a coat with you.

Drowning Deep looks so cool as well as does Siren. You really don't get enough books and TV with merfolk in so it should be interesting. Fingers crossed they're good.

  26. Missing sounds good! Sounds mysterious and dangerous. Nice pictures by the way. :)

  27. I enjoyed the warmer weather too. Sadly it was colder again yesterday but it's supposed to be warmer this week.

I love the Star Wars trailer. I've watched it several times now and saw some fun interviews with the cast. I suppose we'll know more when they release the full trailer later this year.

Hope you have a great week!

  28. I'm really wanting to read some sci-fi and those pictures are just making me want more. I'm impatiently waiting for Obsidio (Illuminae Chronicles) and might start Red Rising in the meantime.
I'm loving the new Star Wars trailer. I finally got to see Rogue One in the past two weeks.
Have a great week, Greg! :D

  34. We've had the worst weather which I'd enjoy if I wasn't dealing with a reading slump, plus I couldn't go anywhere so this week was super slow for me. That cover for Into The Drowning Deep looks amazing!

  35. The weather got chilly here last night after a bunch of 80's days.

  36. Glad to hear you finally got some good weather. It was cold and rainy here all weekend, which sucked for outdoor activities but was wonderful for bookworm-ish activities, haha.

Oh wow, I hadn't actually seen the trailer for The Last Jedi yet so thanks for sharing that link. December can't get here fast enough!

  37. I remember that episode with Sulu!! I'm with you on having good weather. Our temperatures here keep fluctuating. I need to hurry up and read the Mira Grant books I have, but that one looks really good! Thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post on Lisa Loves Literature earlier. Have a great week!

  41. It seems to be that balanced poised time of the year, where both hemispheres get nice sunny weather without being too hot or cold. Good to hear the psychological thrillers are so good.

  42. Husband and son are watching Rogue One. I'm reading blogs and working on my own instead.

It was a busy week of reading, Girl Scouts, the Mandarin Showcase, and boxing up books. Come see what I'm reading.

  46. Mermaids are hit or miss for me, more than some other myth creatures, but Into The Drowning Deep looks great based on the cover.

  47. Good weather AND good books? Awesome!

I can't watch that trailer right now for Siren but I'm interested and I hope the merfolk book is great too! The cover is interesting.

    Have a good week!

  49. Ok well I had a lot to comment on but I just watched The Last Jedi for the first time and GAH! I need to see that movie right this second LOL! It looks really promising, even for me who was underwhelmed with TFA. Thanks for sharing it Greg, with my last work week I missed it :)

  50. Ooooh, I hadn't heard about Into the Drowning Deep yet! I loved Rolling in the Deep. Thanks for posting about it!

  51. Love the tagline "a gang of murderers on the loose in the desert" on the pulp cover. Looking forward to a week of more sunshine than gray skies this week.

  52. Once again, you have found some fantastic images! Those totally put me in the mood for some good sci-fi. ^_^ I can't wait to see The Last Jedi, but I'm nervous about it too. I saw an interview where Mark Hamill said that, initially, he was disappointed with the direction they took Luke and it took a while to get his head around it.

  57. I have never heard of Siren before but it looks pretty good, I may have to check it out! Glad that the weather has been nicer- it's been pretty warm here too, which I like- warmer, but not too warm, it's perfect (for like 3 weeks and then it'll be 90 degrees hahah). Glad you have been having such a great reading streak! I feel like mine has been like, one on, one off, which still isn't bad- I'll take it! I hope it continues for you!

  58. Glad to hear you had some good weather this week, here it's a bit up and down. Some days are really warm and then we have a day with a lot of wind or colder temperatures again. I also like mermaid stories, but I am not a fan of thrillers usually.

My copy of Missings arrived this week! I hope to read it soon, but I have some other books I want to get through first, so it might be a while before I get around to reading it. I hope you had a good week!
