Travelers 03x04 Perrow

Travelers season 3 is here! I've been waiting for this one with bated breath ever since that crazy cliffhanger in season 2. Finally we get some answers- maybe?- about what happens now that the Travelers have been outed. Or- have they? I guess we need to watch and find out! So without further ado, here are my thoughts on episode 4 of season 3. This post will be a little spoilery- just a heads up.

We haven't seen much of Dr. Perrow yet this season, but that changes here. She's in her limo when she starts getting text messages that she takes as threatening, though they claim to want to help her. She tells her driver to get her out of there when she realizes she's been followed, but that just results in them getting into an accident- and then whoever is after her has her. It's kind of interesting because Perrow (who is really Traveler 001 in Perrow's body) has been so formidable that to see her taken down like this so suddenly has me wondering- who's after her?

Well turns out it's the Faction! Ooh we haven't seen them much lately either. They whisk her out of the hospital and to their own facility (do all Traveler/ Faction teams work out of like garages and stuff?) but she's in rough shape, and the two Faction members we see (Dawn and Michelle) try to convince her they're on her side. They need her help, as it turns out. See the Faction comes from a future where things are different- we're told that in Traveler 001's future something called Shelter 41 collapsed, killing thousands. But in their future the citizens of Shelter 41 became a movement, a faction against the controlling AI. Ooh is she talking about the Director?

Not only that but in this future Traveler 001 (we really need a name) became the leader of the Faction. Ah so that's where this is headed. Dawn wants Traveler 001 to help them, because her group is stranded here, with no way to return to the future, and they're running out of resources. Also, Traveler 001 (as Perrow) wasn't supposed to know about any of this yet, but hey times are desperate, right.

So again we revisit whether the Faction is actually bad, or are they freedom fighters? Meanwhile Mac's team is on to things and are trying to get to Perrow, but they don't make it. At least not in time- when they find Perrow she's history, and apparently Traveler 001 has swapped bodies again. Or transferred consciousness as they say. Also the team realizes that Perrow's kidnapping of their loved ones in the season 2 finale was just a diversion- which seems like a big realization- at least now they know.

Speaking of loved ones, a lot happens here. Jeff that lovable guy gets drunk and confronts Carly- after running her off the road and delaying the team as they're closing in on Perrow- but just before something bad happens (because he and Carly are pointing guns at each other) poor Jeff gets overwritten by the Director. Hello new Traveler! Bye asshole. And Phil sees a vision (he's been having 'em) of Carly and Jeff both dead. So... did they kill each other, and the Director intervened to change that? What's going on with all these visions?

Oh and Yates is in this one. Her and Mac have a little standoff over Ilsa, the new AI that is just going to cause problems soon, I know. Mac gets a message to enable Internet access for the AI, which seems like a bad idea to me, but whatever. Mac of course doesn't question it, and Grace sets it all up. And who knows what else she's up to. Gotta wonder about the Director at this point. Some other stuff goes on as well- David gets a concussion getting his bike back from some jerks, but Phil and Trev save him from a beatdown. Looks like Marcy is looking out for him.

Also more creepiness with Ilsa and Dr. Teslia. Yates asks Teslia if Mac's team could have contacted Ilsa somehow electronically, and Teslia says no since Ilsa is enclosed in a Faraday cage, which blocks electromagnetic signals. Never mind the fact that Teslia has his tablet in there with him as he says this, and it's obvious something is happening. Yates has no clue but afterwards Ilsa asks the doctor if they're concealing its new capabilities from Yates for a reason. Ooh. And he replies that if they knew they'd be afraid.

Stray Thoughts

No Wakefield.

I don't get how the cooperation agreement with the authorities works. Yates is FBI, knows Mac really isn't, knows what the Director is- exactly how many people in the 21st know about the time travel program???

Grace rocks. "I have to admit, this is getting exciting," she says as they undergo the operation for Perrow.

Kat goes to David's and is still questioning Mac. Not only that, she has another vision of Mac wanting to harm her. And then "real" Mac comes home and she overhears him telling Phil that they may "have to go through with it." What does that mean??

The team knows now that Traveler 001 is still alive and at large.

  2. I don't get this agreement with the FBI, either. I feel like I missed something big?? And yeah, it does seem that both a lot of people in the 21st know about the Travelers AND there are a ton of Travelers walking around!

  4. Grace is so fabulous! They should just overthrow Mac and let Grace be in charge. She's saved their asses more than once, anyway. And Yates... wow she is not the sharpest tool in the shed, is she? I mean to trust Mac's fake-as-hell 180? I am just SO happy that actual Jeff is dead that I don't even care about anything else. I hope that Not Jeff is great. Is this the David concussion episode? I am still pretty salty about that. I was glad to see the Faction though, finally. And the whole Perrow confuses me, for many reasons, least of which that I keep thinking of Ross Perot and when Perrow=Perot I am just... yeah.
