Sunday Post #276

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

The big news this week is the arrival of Fire and Blood which has resulted in me reading it at every available moment to the exclusion of all else. And let me just say- it's clear to me now why we don't have The Winds of Winter yet. This thing is 700 + pages. But it's chock full of history for A Song of Ice and Fire so there's that. I just finished it on Friday and it's great.

In other news Travelers S3 came out on Friday and I'll be binging that this weekend. I'll be reviewing the episodes too over the next week or so. Oh, and Christmas is like a week and a half away, which we're not gonna address.

Movies That Suck this past week returned with Gremlins. Fun stuff. I also posted a Vintage SF Covers post and a Tuesday Tagline (I really liked this one). And I was tagged for the 12 Days of Christmas Tag by Brooke at Brooke's Reviews and Sweeps so that will be coming up this week. Oh and the Godzilla trailer looks amazing.

  12. Yeah, Christmas is creeping up! I haven't put up a tree in about eight years. I've only been doing a bare twig Yule branch and it takes about five minutes to throw some fairy lights on it and a few gold balls, so putting up a full tree today was, well... I think I said the F-word under my breath at least 50 times today. 😂

    The Tolkien art work. 😍😍😍

I love the Gremlin poster art, too! 👍✨

Have a wonderful new week! 🌞🌇

  13. Your pulp cover reminds me of all the times I spent in the high school library. It looks somehow so common right?

  15. I am refusing to read any of the GOT spinoffs till I read winds of winter but all the same the tv show (not due out for a couple of years at least) about the origins of the White Walkers looks interesting.

  18. Gremlins!! I feel old saying this but I remember watching Gremlins in the theater, I was about 8 and it scared me! When they turned from the fuzzy ones to the meaner ones, but after a bit it had me laughing...lol. Such a fun movie!

    Lots of cool pics!

    Have a great week!

  19. 700+ pages, good for you! I haven't read any of his books but I do have the 1st book in audio but the guy annoys me how he says Joffrey's name. I kept correcting him. lol

I love Gremlins, I wanted to watch that with the kids but we aren't sure if it's too scare especially with the blender.

I am so excited for Christmas! :)

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  20. I'm going to try reading Game of Thrones again now that I've seen the series a couple of times. I tried reading it before watching the show, and it was a lot to keep track of.

  21. I haven't ventured into Game of Thrones though I mean to do it, not books or TV. I always like the books better and often I just don't do the tv or movies based on them. I saw some of the movies I never got to in the theater are on Netflix now so maybe I'll manage a bit over the holidays. Have a great reading and watching week! Anne - Books of My Heart

  22. I have been wanting to read George R.R. Martin for a long time, but I haven't been able to get through the first book in the Game of Thrones series yet. I definitely would like to try again soon. Glad you liked the new book! ;)
Have a great week and happy reading!

  25. Wow, 700 pages? That's going to be some read! It's been a long time since I've seen Gremlins. Creepy but fun, too. Vertigo is such a classic, but that ending! Love your Lord of the Rings art.

  26. The Gremlins Greg! Oh my it's my childhood here! Now 700 pages is long but not the longest (Queen of Air and Darkness was around 900 pages so ...not much other read done this week!). Happy Sunday. Sophie @bewareofthereader

  27. Love that Vertigo poster! I still have so much Christmas shopping to do, I told my boss I wasn't coming in one day this week just to get it done. (With all the travel I've been doing, it feels fair!) I'm not indulging in any more ASOIAF books that aren't actually part of the series...I understand writing at your own pace, but it is disappointing that he's undertaken so many side projects at the expense of the core series. I'm glad you liked it, though! And 700+ pages sounds about right for GRRM's writing haha

  28. Are those Nancy Drew graphic novels? Awesome! So glad you enjoyed your new book. Always a good feeling to be waiting for something and it doesn't disappoint.

  29. That Vertigo cover always accomplishes its purpose when I look at it, I get a little dizzy!

  30. Ah Gremlins!! That movie was HUGE when I was a kid. Enjoy your time in Westros! I've never read any of the books or seen the show!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have such fond memories of Gremlins that I don't think that I can rewatch it. I'm really looking forward to some graphic novels come out soonish, including Nancy Drew and Sweet Valley High. Happy reading!

  32. I saw that new GRR Martin book and I said, "Now we all know why we don't have the last book." It's HUGE!

  33. I really need to get back to the ASoIaF series. I wanted to finish them all before the show ends, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. They’re so long! Enjoy your new books. Have a great week!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  34. I have not watched Gremlins in aaaaages, like beyond ages

  35. oh man after reading this I want to kick myself for being too lazy to read the mammoth GoT books! I get depressed thinking the show is gonna end this year!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have both the audiobook and the print book of Fire and Blood and am saving it until after the 20th (the day of the deadlines!). I love all the LOTR images, but the greenhouse one is great too, especially this time of year.

  37. Those big honking books terrify me! I used to really love them, but now that my TBR is exploding it seems daunting to me. I have been wanting to read Fire and Blood as well and I am thrilled that you enjoyed it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh I love those books that just have me reading at every available moment. Makes all the other mundane things tolerable and quickly done just so I could return to reading. LOL

  39. It's great that you are enjoying your monster book. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  44. I think Fire and Blood had a lot more fans feeling understanding about why the next ASOIAF isn't released yet. But I do hope he is going to work on that next though, so we can have it soon as well :D
