Sunday Post #43/ It's Monday. What Are You Reading?

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

This week was pretty good, I got a couple reviews up and got some reading done.  It's been cold and rainy all week but today the sun is out and looks like a good day.

There's a cool new game coming called 20,000 Leagues Above The Clouds. They describe it as Baldur's Gate meets Pirates!, with steampunk.

  1. I am excited about Avengers, and the new star wars. Glad you had such a good week Greg. May the force be with you :)

  2. GoT drinks - brilliant. Thank you for sharing. To be completely honest, I am not the biggest fan of the series. I read first book and watched first season of the show, but the second one is mehhh.... It's not much better than True Blood ond similar shows. Only difference is that it has more male audience.

    1. I thought that was cool, too. I understand about the series- I do like the books, but the show not as much. Certain things are bad enough on the page, but when translated to a visual medium it's almost worse. My take, anyway. Thank you for visiting.

  3. The books are all new to me I confess but I hope you'll like them all. I don't see the shows either, I'm soooo late with mine. Happy reading!

  5. I am one episode behind on GoT but I have heard a lot of people say it may have spoiled the book coming out. I need to catch up and of course I wont be able to watch tonights either but I plan to catch up this week. I have to say I am loving this season so far.

Enjoy all your new reads and fingers crossed next week no rain, I just want the sun already it rained all week here. :)
    Have a great week Greg

    1. You too Michelle. I hope you enjoy the GoT catch- up. :) That spoiler is a little surprising but maybe it shouldn't be too much, since we knew SOMETHING was going on there. Still kinda came out of left field. I'm hard on the show sometimes, but it is cool there is a show at all! Tonight's episode should be fun...

  6. Love the Star Wars posters! I'll skip the GoT stuff for now; I'm not watching and haven't read the books yet. I may try them sometime, but at this point, I think I'll wait until the series is complete.

The title of Stoker's Manuscript is intriguing. I assume it's about Bram Stoker and his novel about Dracula? I look forward to reading your review!

Thanks for stopping by, and May the Fourth be with you!

  7. I''m curious about Stoker's Manuscript...as for Game of Thrones, I'm too far behind. May have to catch it on Netflix.

  8. Stoker's Manuscript sounds interesting, I hope you enjoy it! I still haven't watched GoT or Agents of Shield - I just can't keep up! I'm kind of thinking I'll wait for GoT until I've read the books so I won't have spoilers like that. But I want to start Shields soon! I guess I have some TV watching to catch up on! Thanks for sharing all the links Greg and have a great week!!

  9. What I can't understand is if it's Star Wars day today, why isn't it showing on tv somewhere?!?!?!?! Usually it's all over Spike TV!!! I blame it on Disney buying the franchise. At least I found the Lego special that's on tonight :) We never miss those and they used to be carried by Cartoon Network. Hysterical stuff!!!

Here's to getting our gardens in soon!! Have a great reading week!

    1. Hey you too! I'm totally with ya on Star Wars, there ought to be a marathon on some channel. Yes Spike is usually all over that LOL! LEGO special? Didn't know about that, may have to tune that in tonight... cool!

Today's weather has been good but now my allergies are acting up. Ah well, it's still better than cold temps, snow, and ice. Have a good week!

  16. It's unfortunate that the show has probably spoiled a future book, but unless GRRM suddenly releases all the rest of the books, like tomorrow, this probably won't be the only time, just the first. Either that or the show is off in a completely different direction than the books will eventually take.

  23. I am so glad spring is here finally too. We had SNOW last week. Tomorrow is supposed to be 83. I washed the cars in the driveway today to just be outside. That GoT spoiler was a little eh for me... a name really (that was the spoiler on the HBO website)??? Now the show did spoil though future books that's for sure. I am about to check out the videos you post because they look amazing!

Yeah the spoiler is probably not a big deal, although it does potentially show something we didn't know so it was a surprise. Going forward we'll see them jump around between books and maybe a few more peeks at upcoming stuff- should be interesting!

  26. Now is when it is finally feeling like Spring for you? Summer is like a month away! It already feels very warm over here. I just hope it doesn't get too hot too fast like it usually does. The Star Wars posters that look like ads are awesome. I haven't read the books but if the Night King theory is true in GoT that would be awesome... That post on how messed up GoT is very true. I don't like all the rape and abuse in GoT and that's not why I watch it. I like the characters and the plot. I had no doubt George R.R. Martin's books were graphic but comments and what's happening in each book have made me realize how creepy he is. I didn't know Dany was so young or Robb or Jon. I assumed they were older. I knew Sansa and Arya were very young though. I don't know why they weren't older or grew older by at least a year from each of those long books. I wish it wasn't so graphic or I would enjoy it much more. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I know, our spring is very late arriving this year! We always get hot fast too, I'd be happy with 70's for a while. I'm actually really surprised by that spoiler, although I understand they are laying the groundwork for finishing the show since they have limited time- and the books are nowhere near finished. I just didn't think we'd get hints like that of the North quite so soon.

I'm with you, I am a huge fan of the series but the books are raw and the HBO series has gone way overboard in my opinion. It's just in your face. I like the characters and plot too, and could do without the graphicness. They always read as oldr to me, but if you think about how young some of them are, especially Dany... it is a little weird. And HBO needs to chill... at least that's my view.

  27. It sounds like you had a good week, and that you have some interesting new book arrivals. Good to hear that you enjoyed Jurassic Park, I did too - especially the ending, which I thought was (scarily) realistic. I hope you have a great week.

  31. I loved that Star Wars pic. I hope we get more. I also hope they'll be able to keep a lid on spoilers.

It would be fun to be in the room with the GoT writers when they discuss whether and how to diverge from the books. From what I understand, they've stuck to the books pretty closely up until two episodes, so I'm sure it was pretty jarring to the readers. Contrast that with The Walking Dead, which made big changes right off the bat. Of course, there is probably a different level of fanaticism between the two, but I found it amusing that the readers were so shocked.

    1. I know, I need that! Just so I can look out of the Millennium Falcon cockpit from time to time. :)

I think you're right, they've been pretty faithful for a series this massive... and yes, to be in the writer meetings- THAT would be interesting! I do feel like sometimes they go for shock value when they could achieve the same effect with inference or be a little more subtle- a lot of things implied in the books are thrown out there on the show rather gracelessly at.times. I also have to wrap my head around the idea that I'm going to see new plot points on the show before the books, now in all likelihood. At least we'll get the end one way or the other! :)

It's so nice to finally sit outside sometimes when the weather is nice (we're getting quite a bit of rain which is great for the growing things so no complaints!) 35. I definitely agree that Game of Thrones, the show ,goes too far with the constant female nudity, as well as sexualised violence. The other post you linked, I read a little bit from the beginning, and I had to stop because I disagreed with the way it handled ASoIaF book's description of women. In my opinion, we are never made to believe that Sansa deserves what she gets in King's Landing - some readers might take it that way, but I don't think it's the author's meaning at all. He often makes the reader dislike a character, then gives him/her hardships that are so out of proportion to their crimes/misdeeds, that people don't think they deserve them after all. Also, Catelyn is one of my favourite characters - so I couldn't read anymore. Everyone can have their opinions, but it would have just made me mad to keep reading. :D

Anyway, didn't mean to hijack your post with ASoIaF talk! Stoker's Manuscript sounds interesting, I'd be interested to know if there are actual vampires in the book or whether it's more of a mystery novel. And we have some quite old Thunderbolts comics in the closet, perhaps I should go ahead and read them.

    1. I love GoT talk, too, but sometimes I feel like I go way overboard! I'm glad you didn't think so.

Stoker's Manuscript actually having vampires only makes it more interesting to me - I like books with fantastic/supernatural elements more than just "plain" mysteries etc. I think I'll have to put it on my reading list along with The Historian, after I finally get around to rereading Dracula.

      Delete
    2. I definetly think you'll like it then. I'm the same way, I read an occasional regular mystery, but to me it's more fun if there's a fantastical element to it! :)

  37. I'm so far behind in GOT that I'm sort of afraid to click any of those links, but I've heard a lot of people were miffed at this past episode. I don't really understand why they are adding in future plot considering the books are like 600 pages long there is plenty of things you can use to take up time. Unless it's a matter of continuity. I'm pretty interested in Stoker's Manuscirpt, it sounds like something I would have loved reading back in high school. I might have to grab a copy.

    1. Hope you like it if you get it! The only thing I can think on GoT is they are trying to lay the groundwork for finishing thre show, since I keep hearing theyr talking 7 episodes. So they're accelerating stuff I guess,,,but it IS realy irritating! :)
