Escapism of the bookish sort.
So I didn't get it until the closeup - it's very artistic! I'm curious now too. You have to read it now so you can share if it's any good :)
This is one of those covers where the close up makes a huge difference- you can actually see the art lol. I don't know if i'll read it though- it's kinda old school sci fi and that can be hit or miss. :(
We were discussing Marion Zimmer Bradley on Cover To Cover yesterday. I asked if someone had read Mists Of Avalon, and they told me about the child abuse cases that were brought against her and her husband. I had no clue.
I didn't know either until a year or so ago, I guess. I remember hearing it and it evaporated any more to read her books. I like this one for the cover but even spotlighting made me a little nervous.
How old is that cover? I need to get my eyes checked because I thought that was a dragon behind the woman. Yikes.
It's pretty old, I think? Definitely old school sci fi! I like the cover but don't think I'd read... :)
I like the close-up even better than the cover as the focus is more on the scene that way. I like this one and I wonder what the women is doing there and what she has to do with the sea creature and what exactly he is. the water and the setting sun provide for a nice backdrop.
I definitely the close up better too. I wonder about that too- what is she doing out there, and how far out is she? Looks like the middle of the ocean! And I like the water and the setting sun too.
I love the colors in it. But yes, I agree with Lola in that I really prefer the close-up. It brings out the detail!
Absolutely agree. Like many covers you lose a lot by the time the lettering and everything else- it's nice sometimes to see the actual art!
I agree the cover is gorgeous, though I have to say the mer-person thing in the background kind of takes away from the effect, now that I can see it close up! It's a little random in an otherwise very well composed piece.~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Think so? I kinda like the mer person, but looking at it I can see your point. If the mer person wasn't there you'd have the clouds and the setting sun and the roiling waves as a backdrop, and the woman out there- that would be powerful, maybe even better!
It's really magical and I really identify with water magic so to me it's just like the cover calls to me :D
