Sunday Post #135

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This week wasn't bad it hasn't really warmed up yet and it got rainy but I think temps are supposed to get nicer next week. The sun came out at the end of the week so that's something. I did a bit of reading and I'm still working out what I want to read next- I'll be trying some urban fantasy so maybe that will do the trick. I've also been writing and may have a flash fiction post on Thursday if all goes well.

This week I talked favorite moments in books on Tuesday and will have a discussion post this week on the fae. I also reviewed Rebel Bully Geek Pariah and continued reading Allegiant. The other thing I wanted to share is the Tolkien event going on at Pages Unbound- they are doing a two week celebration of all things Tolkien with reviews, fun stuff like name generators, and giveaways.

Rebel Bully Geek Pariah

And I'm listening to...

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

NEW ARRIVAL/ UPCOMING REVIEWS:

BOOKISH LINKS

Boats Against The Current reviews The Other Queen

The Hardcover Lover shares her playlist for Siren by Kiera Cass.

Confessions of a Book Addict reviews Allegiant (the movie).

Peace Love Books talks about adulthood and how it can ruin reading.

Pages Unbound is running a two week Tolkien event with giveaways and awesome posts. You can check one of the giveaways out here, but there's a lot of awesome stuff to see.

This will tell you which graphic novel to read based on your zodiac sign.

And continuing the theme from last week- a bit about stormtrooper accuracy. Love the part at 1:05 with the Jawa...

  1. LOVE the dystopian/futuristic artwork. I could stare at them for days! I had fun with the ''which graphic novel to read based on your zodiac sign too :D This haven't really warmed up around here either, we had a freezing rain storm all day yesterday so things are covered with ice! Have a wonderful weekend Greg!

    1. I just discovered them, was surprised how many videos they had. They really tackle a lot of the genre stuff, and it's pretty good! I love being outside too, it would be nice if the weather would cooperate!

  3. I am curious about Orphan Black. I got an e-mail informing me that Seasons 1-3 are available as an Amazon Video. I need to check them out!

Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

    1. Orphan Black is fun, I had to get through the first few episodes and then it took off. Seems to be the case a lot tho. It's kinda zany and sci fi-ish but funny at times too.

  4. The Murderer Vine... You know I watched a movie once in high school, I think out was The Ruins, that was about plants killing people. It was supposed to be scary, and I'm usually not good with scary movies, but it was so stupid that me and two of my friends sat in the back of the room making jokes the entire time. Plants just aren't scary lol. But it is a great cover!

That artwork is so gorgeous! And even kind of haunting in a futuristic way, if that makes any sense.

I'm curious to see your discussion of the fae this week. You know I like my paranormal creatures!

    1. Yeah plants aren't really scary. I don't know what's going on w/ that book lol but the cover made me laugh. I have to say it is fun finding those. :)

Glad you liked the artwork. There's something about dystopian/ post apoc artwork that gets the imagination going, I especially liked the first one (Electric Rain, even that title got me) and the last one- cool looking place. Good for inspiring flash fiction too I would think.

Hope you like the discussion. You'll have to share your fave paranormal creature, I'm hoping to generate some good discussion.

  5. The pictures you find are amazing, I just love them.
The weather has been so crazy here, it was warm and then cold, rained and snowed on Monday. The weather gods need to make of their minds because I don't know what to wear anymore.

I hope you have a fantastic week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  19. Ooo, what urban fantasy are you going to try? There's Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld, Seanan McGuire's Toby Daye series, Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs, Spirit Caller by Krista D Ball, and The Others by Anne Bishop. Those are good ones to start with.

The weather here has bounced around, from 70 to 30 and up again. The pollen has been out and killing me, dang trees.

    Have a good week!

  21. That pulp cover is practically pornographic!!! What a position.

I am going to go check out what graphic novels I should be reading, I am a Sagittarius and really getting in to these just now.

I know I have said it before but I do love these futuristic pictures, I think I could literally stare at them for ages wondering where people are going and where they've been.

    Have a good week!

    1. Thanks! I liked that artwork too, it's very inspiring just to wonder what it's all about. I saw a piece that I thought would be a great flash fiction inspiration, there's so much good stuff out there. Allegiant is okay, I'm not loving it but it's not bad either- pretty middle of the road. I do like Tris but I'm a little disappointed in Four's perspective- I have a ways to go yet though.

  23. 12 Monkeys was one of the few shows that I kept up on when it aired. I also enjoyed it more than I thought I would for a SYFY show. Interested to see where they go with this season.
