Sunday Post #358

So how has your world been? I hope everyone is well. Things are pretty scary with the latest news about the virus, with more indications that airborne transmission plays a bigger role (not just the known aerial transmission but the increasing evidence that smaller aerosolized transmission is a thing). I remember back in the early days they said test and contact tracing, along with quarantine, were how to contain this thing. Of course here in the US because of misinformation that hasn't happened. But what can you do? I've been binging Netflix more than I've been reading. I finished up Deadwind (a Finnish show) and I highly recommend. That and Into the Night have been my favorite Netflix shows recently.

I'm going camping next week so I won't have a Sunday Post next weekend. I'll be in Traverse City for a few days, social distancing and enjoying nature. Hopefully will make it to the sand dunes among other things. I hope everyone has a great week!

These videos can be kinda relaxing- just walking around urban areas and seeing the sights. Here's one of the famous Shibuya intersection in Tokyo.

  1. It's a scary time to live in, isn't it? We still have rather few cases here in Switzerland, but if fluctuates every day. A month ago, we had less than 20 new cases per day, now, it's anywhere between 50 and 120 new cases per day. Even with masks being mandatory in some places - strangely not in grocery stores.
I hope you'll have a wonderful week camping and communing with nature, Greg! Stay safe and healthy. *cyber hug*

  2. There were mistakes by everyone from the WHO to governments from the very start. Saying face masks were no good for protection so they could protect PPE supplies for medical people led to people not believing they should wear them now. Saying only older people and those with serious health conditions were at risk led to younger people thinking they were immune and are now becoming super spreaders. Opening the beaches on sunny public holidays and wondering why a huge spike in cases comes ten days later. Ugh.

  3. LOL, Stayin' Alive is so spot on right now.

Have a safe and fun-filled camping!

  4. Misinformation is definitely a problem, but I think they really are learning new things about this virus every day. It's hard to know what to believe sometimes, though!

  5. Bee Gees!! Love this flashback, and those pants!🤩

  6. Yeah that news of airborne transition was not welcome... especially considering just yesterday I agreed to go back to my retail job. I understand that the economy needs to reopen, but I can't help but think that there are more important things than say, opening Disney World. Hope you stay healthy, Greg!

  7. I’m trying to avoid the news, just till next week. My town has gotten a lot busier with tourists, lots of people sitting outside pubs definitely not socially distancing. I know it’s important to kickstart the economy again but drunk people cannot stay a metre apart.

I loved Into the Night, I’m pleased to see season two has been confirmed, Have you watched Zone Blanche/Black Spot, it’s excellent. I’m on S3 of Dark and my head is very confused, love it though!

Have a good week, stay safe.

  8. Sometimes movies are just easier to focus on than books. Sometimes you need a good Netflix binge! I actually binged The Circle recently lol. Ooh camping, have fun!

  9. It absolutely baffles me how they plan for us to go back to school safely. Absolutely ridiculous. Have fun camping!

  10. I’ve been hearing the virus numbers from the US.. Boy it’s bad out there! Here we have been opening up more and more and the numbers are still good. But I’m afraid for October when normally the flu is showing itself again.

Your trip sounds great! I hope you’ll have a great time in nature Greg.

    Stay safe and happy reading!

  11. Greg, I really hope your camping trip will be lovely - Sounds like it will be great to get away from everything where you are. My world is okay: back at work almost full time and lot more shops and businesses are open. If you like walking videos my dad likes Vietnamese Girl Wandering The World on YouTube - He started off watching her husband's cycling videos first. Take care and happy trip. 🙂

  12. Enjoyed the Tokyo walk. Have a great trip :-)

  13. The COVID news just gets grimmer - both with transmission info and infection rate. It's quite scary. Hope you enjoy the downtime while camping. I'm sure it will be a welcome break. Great song this week! The Bee Gees were such a staple in their time.

  14. The latest air borne transmission news is making it scarier. 2020 grows grimmer by the day. I hope you have fun at your camp.

  15. Greg, I don´t know what to say about the airborn transmission without making you feel bad. Here in Germany the info isn´t new. It is widely known and the main reason why people rather sit outside in a restaurant garden than being inside. Despite that, I wish you a wonderful camping week. I hope you can enjoy it. Stay safe and well my friend.

  16. I cracked up when I saw your song selection of the week. Yeah...I have a feeling we need to brace for a second wave. Have fun camping next week!

  17. Our little town was recently named a hotspot which terrifies me. We’ve tried very hard to stay away and take every precaution we can (my son has asthma and I help my mom take care of my elderly grandparents). We had nearly 100 new cases on Friday. 😔
Your song selection is cracking me up! I’m a nurse and that is the song we use to teach people CPR 😂 I love seeing your pics each week. You find some cool ones. Have fun camping next week!

  18. I'm going to miss my northern Michigan vacation this summer. I need an RV or camper trailer... I'm not a great tent camper. Lol. I am sure you guys will have a great time!! Stay safe and enjoy those beautiful views up there!

  19. Not sure how much I believe in the airborne theory but it sure seems like they want to keep us inside. Have fun camping!! I am not a big camper unless I have indoor facilities and don't have to sleep on the ground. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

  20. Camping sounds like a great getaway for these times. Enjoy!

I really needed that Stayin'Alive song today; thanks!

Enjoy your books and your shows. What would we do without Netflix?

Thanks for sharing and stay safe.

  21. Yes... this thing isn't going away anytime soon! I hope you have a great camping trip - it sounds like the only sensible option for a holiday right now, I think. Thank you for the wonderful pics and the very apt Bee Gees track:)).

  22. I honestly remember hearing about the airborne thing way back in February or March when it was still elsewhere in the world but it figures that that info wasn't circulating well here in the states. Our cases are out of hand in Florida and I'm still seeing "It's a hoax" daily from locals on FB. smh
Staying Alive seems like a good theme song right now. Stay safe and have a good week, Greg! :)

  23. It's a very scary thing. Here in Italy the things are going okay, with only a few new cases, but you never know. We went for a walk today and most people wore masks, but there's still those few that would rather risk it. There is little new information right now in Italy, it's mostly "if the numbers get high, we're putting everything on lock-down again". Hopefully it won't be necessary. Stay safe and have a great time camping!

  24. Camping sounds wonderful! I hope you have a great time unplugging and getting away to nature!

I feel like I keep reading people saying they haven't been reading as much - that's true for me too. I've just binged Dexter on Netflix (8 seasons in 2 weeks!) and now I'm feeling like MAYBE I'll be ready to read. We'll see. I think it's because it's just so stressful right now, I just don't want to use my brain. 😂

    Have a great couple weeks!

  25. I honestly think it we could see the virus people would listen more. It's hard to believe something when you can't see it. I have other opinions but I'll leave it at that :)

I have been binging also, seems to be what I need right now. I was considering doing reviews of shows and podcasts since that is what I am doing more of at the moment.

Have a great time camping! Stay Safe and Happy Reading, Greg!

  26. It's a scary time that's for sure and you really don't know what to believe. Hope you have fun camping! Have a great week!

  27. Even without our current life change I am so glad we switched to homeschool last year. All the back and forth about spread and what helps combined with rising cases would make me nervous about the school situation. I feel awful for parents who are having to make really difficult decisions with no time to plan. Enjoy your camping trip! Outside and away from people sounds like the way to go right now!

  28. We're trying to hang in there. My daughter has Netflix so I've been binge watching some shows too. I watched The Witcher, Lucifer, The Order and am now watching The Travelers.

  29. I know Greg! I am afraid for my US friends with the news that the COVID is now totally out of control! Please stay safe.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I believe they've always known Covid is more airborne than they've let on. They were afraid everyone would buy up all the PPE and they (Whitehouse) wanted to downplay the virus for their own reasons. But that's my opinion.

Have fun on your camping trip! Everyone needs to get away even with every thing going on. I believe people can still do that while being cautious.

  31. I hope you have a great time on your trip. Camping and just nature in general sounds pretty perfect right about now.

  32. The numbers just keep on climbing here with us in SA. But I am back at school full-time again tomorrow. Our economy is in ruins and all small businesses (like myself) are struggling big time.

I didn't do a Sunday Post, work too late today. Will try a Top Ten Tuesday! Last post was Friday for Weekend Book Friends

    Have a good week!

  33. The lockdown seems like such a waste of time now since they didn't do all of the other things with it.

Enjoy your (socially distanced and safe!) time away Greg! I think we all need a little down/nature time at this point.

  34. The Trailer Park Girls...oh my! Yep, it seems like Memorial Day hit and everyone decided they were done. Ugh. We are still staying home and only go out to shop for food. Be safe, enjoy your shows!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I hope you enjoy your trip! We've been hiking regularly and while we don't wear our masks full-time on the trails, we do have them ready to pull up/put on if we come across other people. Maybe 50% of our fellow hikers do the same. :-( I wish more people would just think about common courtesy if nothing else. Enjoy your camping trip and I hope anyone around you socially distances as well!

  36. The UK has sucked at implementing contact tracing too. Argghhh it grinds my gears (knowing quite a bit about epidemiology/public health as I do). Sigh... Glad you're staying safe!

    ReplyDelete
  37. The virus numbers keep going up and up everyday. It's very scary. I hope you have a great trip. Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Could you imagine Americans allowing the sort of contact tracing that other countries are doing? One place tried to do a sign in and was threatened with a lawsuit. Many of the things working in other countries would never work here, because the our country is much bigger, local governments make the rules for this situation, and we have a way more heterogeneous population than other countries. It's challenging, but maybe people can make better decisions for themselves. I canceled my non-essential air travel in Aug, though I would have loved to have seen my child. We have information and choices too, and there are a lot of people not acting responsibly for themselves.

  39. Staying Alive... The anthem of 2020, lol.
The entire situation is insane. I now own quite the mask collection and my husband keeps asking what we'll do with them when this is over and am like, "will it ever be over?" I sometimes feel like it wont. :(

    Enjoy your camping!

  40. We've been pretty good about staying at home during all of this! We've started looking for walking trails and other activities that keep us away from people, but the heat is making outdoor activities difficult. Plus, we have yellow flies that keep us from playing in our own backyard. They're supposed to go away after two months, but they're still here... I finally took a Benadryl to help with the itching! I have like 30+ bites. *sobs*

My main concern right now is school in the fall... what are we supposed to do? Send them and hope for the best, or commit to 100% online learning at home? My kid haaated being home when he knew she should've been at school.

  41. If everyone in the USA would just wear a mask in public, then this crisis would be in the decline. Sadly, there are many ignorant people in this country, who are refusing to wear a mask and go by the six foot rule. I see maskless people shopping all the time, especially the elderly, which makes zero sense. Our government has handled everything wrong. There should be a nationwide temporary law made that will enforce everyone to wear a mask in public. Anyone caught not wearing a mask would receive a hefty fine.

    ReplyDelete
  42. We been pretty good about staying mostly to ourselves, wearing a mask. It's stressful. Living in the USA right now feels stressful especially since they decided to politicize human health crises.
I have family members who had the virus and it was terrible and then you go to the store and no one cares. Even people we know don't bother.

  44. Hope your trip goes really well, I bet you feel really ready for it. What can you do! Be sensible and take care and hopefully you'll be okay. We continue to be okay here and just cases at the border in quarantine. We've had some "fun" with some who have escaped and gone to the shop from quarantine and they have been charged. And of course been recipients of the wrath of the country and talked about on talk back!!

  45. I hope you have a great time camping and are able to forget the sorry state of the world for a while. After a number of weeks with no new cases we’ve had 12 in the last few days in my state though thankfully all far from me.

Wishing you a great reading week, stay well

  46. I hope you enjoy your trip! The idea of getting away sounds really appealing. Unfortunately, we are back in lockdown so we aren't going anywhere at all any time soon.

  47. So scary! Enjoy Traverse and the dunes. (I haven't been to northern MI in a while, though we used to go every summer and sometimes in winter to ski.) My favorite art is Farvel.

  48. I keep going through the few things they were "certain" of in the beginning. We knew absolutely nothing.

  49. Have fun on your vacation. This Covid stuff seems to be getting more scary the more we learn about it. The US hasn't dealt with it very well. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I've just started in on Warrior Nun on Netflix and it's pretty cool.

  51. So, I was over here thinking "wow I wonder if Into the Night has been renewed yet, and as you already know because I have already told you, IT HAS BEEN. I figure this way now all the people can know! I actually started watching Future Man again last night- it is lighthearted and I needed a laugh, and it delivered. One of these days I'll get to Deadwind S2. Actually- did I even finish S1? I should probably look.

I hope you have a great time camping- it'll be nice to disconnect. You know I am not one for outdoors or well, anything less than a hotel with wi-fi but honestly? I could stand to be disconnected for a few days. The news, the WORLD is exhausting. I am with Miller, this world sucks, let's go find a new one.

  52. Have a great time in TC. It looks like it is going to be a nice week to be there. We just finished the Finnish show Bordertown, it was good and will look into Deadwind.
