The good news this week is my cousin is better. Her husband got it as well but so far the kids haven't. They had completely different symptoms too- she had the respiratory stuff and the feeling of being super hot, while he had primarily muscle aches and the pain they talk about. Both are feeling much better though from what I understand. It's weird knowing two people who've had it- even though it's of course widespread it's still surreal until it hits close to home.

Anxiety is of course sky high since no one knows if they're going to catch this thing. It really does feel like the end of the world at times- I mean, no one knows how long it'll last, do you get immune once you've had it, will social distancing work- and more importantly- how long do we have to distance? Could the world be a permanently changed place going forward? And since no one even knew this virus existed four months ago we don't have answers! For myself I've been finding solace in online games, primarily Star Wars: The Old Republic.

It's relaxing in the sense that when I'm in that world I'm not worrying about coronavirus. How is everyone else coping?

I had to DNF the new Andromeda book- just wasn't feeling it after a few chapters- so I'm on to the Killing November sequel. I'm still thinking of setting up a Lost Horizon read-along so if anyone's interested let me know. La La in the Library has already expressed interest, so yay! I was also thinking of setting up a Twitter party- book related- or some kind of other readalong or whatever that a bunch of us could do, just to take minds off the horribleness. If anyone has ideas I'm game.

  1. What a relief that your cousin is doing better, Greg. So glad to hear it. So strange the way the symptoms are so different. I know what you mean about the anxiety. For me it’s the uncertainty that is so unsettling. Like you said, we don’t know what’s to come. How long will this last? What are the long lasting repercussions? These are such strange times. Too bad about the DNF. I’ve been having trouble concentrating on reading. Hooray for more Peanuts music clips! :)

  2. Yes, it does seem crazy these days. When my brother told me they went through an earthquake out in Utah last week while discussing how to plot out social distancing for his people at work, he joked about the apocalypse. I'm glad your family is coming through it and you can get out of your head with your games. I've been doing that with my gardening work (not planting since we still get snow) prepping for the growing season.
Tough to DNF, but sometimes a book is just not a good match or at least not for the current reading mood.

    Have a good weekend, Greg!

  3. I'm glad your cousins is feeling better - hopefully her husband will be soon too. Love the art you shared today too. :)

  4. God bless your cousin and loved one. We are being good and obedient, staying in and at home.

Irony of mentioning Soylent Green and Andromeda Strain . Those are part of my 70s and 80s movies. their message means more now.

  5. Glad to hear your cousin and her husband are better, and that the kids are okay. If there's one silver lining about this virus it's that on the whole children seem to be spared, not like the H1N1 pandemic which I still remember was so awful and scary for families and the schools. We got through that and I'm sure we'll get through this at some point, but I think you're right, the world will never be the same again. More so than contemplating an apocalypse, I think the uncertainty of "what's next" for our family, our friends, neighbors, and country and is what keeps me up at night. :\

  6. I am glad they are feeling better

I constantly think about what is ahead. We are flattening to the curve, but for how long, shall we keep it up for months? People can't stay away from the jobs that long since not a lot has closed. I am still at work, but we do not have a lot to do so...sigh

  7. That is wonderful news about your cousin and her husband! So glad to hear they are on the mend. Boo to DNFs, but I am eager to hear what you think about Hunting November. It's coming up soonish for me, and I am eager to see where it goes.

  8. I personally feel that I'll never look at crowds the same way again. Now that we know how this spreads, all I can see when I look at other people is someone who is potentially infected, and I don't want them anywhere near me. It's really sad to think that way, I wonder if I'll ever get over it?🙁

  9. I have all the same questions you do! Once this is "over," and we don't have the stay-at-home order anymore, how long will it take for everything to go back to normal? And yeah, will it go back to normal?

  10. "how long do we have to distance? Could the world be a permanently changed place going forward?"
That's exactly it. Right now, the lockdown in Italy will be most likely extended for another couple of weeks after the first deadline - until April 18th. Not that I dare to hope it will be enough 😢.

At least your cousins are doing better! Hang on in there yourself!

  12. I'm so glad to hear your cousin is doing better. We had a bit of a scare with my daughter but it seems to have just been a cold or some other kind of bug. Glad to hear that you've found solace in online games. I've been enjoying Hidden Object games which were my favorite years ago and I've found they're just as soothing now! Hope you have a great week!

  13. Happy to hear your cousin and her husband are on the mend. I've seen articles about why children don't seem to get sick, but I haven't read any. I probably should do that. It sounds interesting.😷

I love the prehistoric ambient! It would be great to play while sitting outside. I don't know what the neighbors would think, though. 😄

The Cafe image is wonderful. It reminds me of Spirited Away. Have you watched that movie yet? 🎍

I am all in for the read-along! 👍✨

I need to find a game to play. Everyone keeps telling me I would like Myst. Are you familiar with it? 💻

Stay safe and have a fabulous week! 🌞

  14. So glad your cousin is recovering - I hope her husband soon feels better. My daughter has quarantined herself for the last week just one day after moving into her new home, with a temperature, a cough and stomach pains and is missing the children like crazy... Thankfully, she is also now recovering. Stay safe, Greg:)

  15. SO glad your cousin and her husband are on the mend. That is just so terrifying, but SO good that their kids seem okay, and that they are not too seriously ill. I am torn between watching the news constantly, and then like, dreading checking it (though I really cannot stop, who am I kidding?) I love all the pictures but honestly they just look like what I imagine April will look like and Idk, hard pass. I will be holed up yelling about how this is NOTHING like The 100 and hey where is Pauna!?

  16. Glad to hear your cousins are recovering. It has do end eventually, obviously....just a question of when and how. I think it's control (or lack of) that angers people the most. As a distraction, I did some painting this week.

  17. Oh man, I haven't been visiting blogs, and I didn't realize your cousin had CV. I'm glad they're all better. It does feel like the end of the world, I hate this. I like to think they will get a vaccine or treatment made eventually, so it probably won't last forever, but the problem is everything happening in the meantime :-/ But yeah, distraction is good right now, anything that helps!

  18. I'm glad your cousin and her husband are recovering from the virus. Our UK government is giving us information but we are lacking detail from the Scottish government-nothing about where in a big region the cases are (I have no idea if there are cases in my town), nothing about food deliveries to those isolating, extra payments from the Scottish government, nothing! My anxiety levels are going through the roof!

  19. That's such good news about your cousin and her husband, Greg. You've asked up there that have been going around and around in my head too. I can't believe these are things we're thinking these days.

  20. That is exactly what I was saying here. Life as we know it has completely changed and many of those changes would be permanent. Hoping to get out of this mess ASAP!

  22. It's definitely a hard and confusing time at the moment Greg. I wonder a lot how the world will be even only a view weeks from now. I really hope things will get better soon.. and this thing will all be a strange and horrible memory soon.
I'm glad your cousing is feeling better.
Stay safe my friend and happy reading!

  23. Thinking of your cousin and her husband glad they are doing okay. Being a nurse obviously puts her at high risk but I'm afraid that before this is over we will have cases just about everywhere. One of my kids got swine flu back in 2009 and she was pretty sick - I was able to take care of her at home but it was definitely scary - she had a high fever and for a few days could barely lift her head off the pillow. So since January I have been watching this and worrying and making a checklist of supplies. I'm as ready as I can be which is good as I'm living right in the epicenter...

  24. Glad your cousin and her husband are doing okay! It is some crazy times we are in! I have noticed I am not in a mystery mood which sucks as I am trying to finish a couple mysteries! I am in a middle grade mood though...lol. I guess for me MG is some go to feel good stuff. I do hope this is all over soon before I go stir crazy and I am one who is fine being at home!

Hope you enjoy Hunting November I really want to read that one!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  27. Interesting images! I Want To Believe grabbed me.

As for how coronavirus has changed our lives, perhaps permanently...let's hope not. But hopefully a vaccine will be created. Not soon, though, I'm sure. Sigh.

Reading and viewing streaming videos are tasks that help me. Hang in there.

  28. So glad to hear your cousin and her husband are doing better.

I feel like we've all been thrown into a horrible movie and can't get out. I hope they fine a cure and a vaccine soon.

Thank you for your kind words about the loss of my kitty. I appreciate it very much.

    Take care and stay safe.

  29. I'm glad your cousin and his wife are both doing better! And I think one of the scariest thing about this virus is that not everyone feels sick the same way. Plus, like you said, we have no idea how long we're going to have to stay home. Or if we'll be immune once we've had it.
I'm glad you've found things to both keep you busy, and less anxious. Books and games are the things to keep us busy.
I hope you'll have a wonderful week ahead. Stay safe and healthy :)

  31. I'm glad your cousin is better. So far none of my family members have caught it and I keep checking on my dad who is 87. I think the unknown about this whole thing is the scariest thing for me. My husband is immunocompromised and our daughter has asthma so I'm hoping neither one of them get this.

  32. It’s wonderful to hear of your cousin’s recovery.
The Soylent Green thing is a bit too close to home given your government’s policies. Have you ever played Abe’s Oddysee? The back story of the game shares some similarities (but the game is really fun).

Wishing you a great reading week and good health

  33. I'm glad your cousin and her husband are recovering - that's great news!
Also good that you've found some way of escaping... I'm struggling so hard to find a way to do that. I've decided to keep the news off this week to see if that helps. :)

  34. I'm glad your cousin is doing better! It really is difficult to deal with not knowing, especially when you're at risk or have loved ones that are. :(

  35. So glad your cousin and his wife are recovering! Even though the majority of people do, it's still scary to know someone with it. Makes this insanity even more real. I agree, who knows what the world will be like when this is over (assuming it's ever over)! So surreal, I feel like I just need to effing wake up already!

    Stay safe!

  36. I'm so glad they are recovering. The stress is definitely high. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night. I'm finding interesting things in those hours, though. Last night I started reading the Lumberjanes comics. I think those will last me through quite a few nights. :)

  37. Greg, I am so pleased to hear your cousin and her husband have recovered and that the children aren't showing any symptoms. I am also glad you are finding escape from anxiety in your games. I have been escaping into books, TV, relaxing yoga and my church's live-streams. Keep safe and happy reading/gaming.

  38. I am glad your cousin and her husband are doing well, despite having the virus. And it's good news that the kids have not caught it. I pray they won't. I hope your current read is working better for you! Take care, Greg. Stay safe and well.

  39. So happy to hear your relatives are doing better. It's not hit that close to home for me yet, though I had a unexpectedly long spring break and get to start both homeschooling my kid and remote teaching my students this week.

LOVE the cafe picture. Social distancing with class.

  40. I know of some patients from my hospital that have had covid but no one personally related to me yet. That is scary, but it sounds like they're the lucky ones who don't have the more serious symptoms, thank goodness! Good to hear the kids are okay. Hope they all recover quickly.

It does feel like the end of the world sometimes. I feel like we're living the pages of one of my apocalyptic books! Stay well, and safe, Greg!

  41. Glad to hear that your cousin feels better. Here in Germany we know that we will have the "no contact at all" rule until 04/20/20. After that our government will decide with science how things will go on. Stay strong and safe! Things will get better one day and yes, the world will be changed after Corona. She already has...

  43. Good news about your cousins! We still have very few cases in my part of Minnesota. But all the questions... I didn't know there was a sequel to Killing November. I'll have to check into it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  44. I think you have found a good way to find relief from the anxiety that dogs us all. And I think the more we can do that the better. Good your cousin is better. For so many they recover but its the ones that get it worse that keeps us all inside. Stay well and keep the anxiety out where you can.

  45. So glad to hear both your family members are recovering. This is so scary, now that more people are getting sick, and even young healthy people are dying - an infant just a few days ago even.

I don't know that having it once gives you immunity from it. There was a report of a man either from China or Japan who had it, recovered, then got sick again. He was in his late 70s. I do not know if he recovered from the second time, as I have not checked for an update recently.

  47. I'm so glad to hear that your cousin and her husband are both recovering from Covid-19. It is truly baffling the wide range of experiences people have with it and I think that's what makes it so scary. Are you going to have a relatively mild case of it or are you going to end up in a life-threatening situation. Hiding out in the world of Star Wars Old Republic sounds pretty good right now. My son has Star Wars Battlefront on his xbox - I might have to confiscate it for a while and play a few rounds myself, lol.
