Sunday Post

I read more this week!

The Michigan Renaissance Festival is underway and I was considering going over Labor Day weekend - but with Covid being so bad I'm reconsidering. This week in walking tours I have a bike tour at night.

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

  1. I'm glad you like The Seafarer's Lullaby. :D I've been trying to introduce people to Ginny Di, and her work for a long time. So I'm glad you found her music. :)

Also I like the first cover, the title makes me wonder what is going on. Is it a murder mystery or a horror novel? And what is going on with the woman.

  2. Isn't it the best when you find a piece of art that just makes you stop and stare at it and feel something?

  4. Minnesota has absolutely AMAZING RenFest, it is a huge deal and massively busy the entire time. We've been going since I was little, and one of the bar wenches picked me up and tried to sell me when I was six (no worries, in her regular job, she was a co-worker of my mom's, so I was quite safe really). Last year they managed to still have the festival, as a drive-through. My mom and uncle went, though Eleanor and I missed out. The location is permanent, as are the structures, so I would have liked to see how they allowed traffic through. Best to be safe though, and not attend - who knows how long this Delta wave will last.

  5. These pulp covers are amazing, lol. Yes, I was surprised to learn you don't have many, since you showcase so many interesting ones! Gotta grow that collection ;-)

  6. I'm glad you like The Seafarer's Lullaby.

  7. Haha, that Winds of Winter thing cracked me up! As did the Night for Screaming bit. The Crystal Starwatcher art is lovely, though the first thing it reminded me of was Superman's Kryptonite! 😂 (Pardon my limited imagination!) But yay for that book loot, lots of Tarzan adventures there I see.

  8. The Winds of Winter... hahahahaha. 😂

Baz and his friends went to the New York State Fair last week, but they double masked and didn't go into any buildings. Masks were required in buildings, but they still didn't feel safe going inside. He said they only saw a couple of people giving security a problem about having to wear a mask. 🎡

Yay for the book haul! I love those Burroughs covers especially. 📚✨ You'll have to start Instagramming. 📷

I love the Crystal Starwatcher image. Thanks for sharing. 👏👏👏

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  9. "The Michigan Renaissance Festival is underway and I was considering going over Labor Day weekend - but with Covid being so bad I'm reconsidering."
That's a pity. I don't know what I'd do if I wanted to go somewhere SO BADLY right now. If only people wore their masks properly and GOT VACCINATED 😡.

"The Winds of Winter has been released! Oh wait...
    That's a good one LOL.

"Oh, I almost forgot. I went to a used bookstore last weekend in East Lansing and spent over $70 on books."
Yikes. Not that I blame you of course! Enjoy!

  10. I need to go into a bookstore one of these days, lol. Although I'm sure if I did I'd go broke!

  11. The sound of the bicycle is so soothing. Lovely finds, as ever! Also I see we featured the same Lofi channel this week, hehe. Great minds. ;)

  12. You found so many Edgar Rice Burroughs books. Fun!!! Have a great weekend. :)

  13. Only now have different festivals and markets opened up in Canada, and I really hope to be able to get out and have some fun, too. However, I totally get what you mean with the COVID cases. I worry more things will be cancelled because of people's unwillingness to get vaccinated.

  14. Sure looks like a night for screaming

  15. I don't blame you for not wanting to go. I haven't gone anywhere and neither has my daughter because Covid cases have been spiking here.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've always wanted to go to a Renaissance Fair but the one around here was canceled last year because of Covid. I haven't heard of another one this year. I don't blame you for thinking twice before going. Hope you have a great holiday weekend and a great week!

  17. When I was a kid, those commercials for the NY Renaissance Fair would always play. I would beg my parents to bring me. Needless to say, I have never been to a Ren Fair. I am vaxxed and feel ok at outdoor events where I can distance myself.

  18. I am glad you have been reading! If you do decide to go to the Michigan Renaissance Festival, I hope you have a good time, but if you do not go, I understand. Someday I would like to go to a renaissance fair. Yay for bookstore finds! I hope you have a great week, Greg.

  19. Yes, the new outbreaks of Covid does give pause. I hope you get to safely enjoy the Fair! We traveled over this holiday weekend, but most of our activities were outside. We have mask mandates in force here for anything inside except when you're eating. We've been careful about sanitizing as well. I'll probably be getting a booster shot soon since I got the vaccine really early being a healthcare worker. I'm going on 8 months now.

  20. Great to hear you have read even more this week and that is an impressive pulp book haul! Take care, happy reading and I hope you are able to go and enjoy the Renaissance festival. 🙂

  21. We were planning on going to the local Renn fair for my husband's birthday last year, and it got cancelled, so we thought maybe we'd go this year - but with cases the way they are, we decided not to go again!

  22. To bad you can't go to the festival, sounds like it could be cool. The books you grabbed look cool! :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

  23. I just finished A Dance of Dragons so if only The Winds of Winter was released... :D

  24. Here in Germany the number with the Delta mutation is going up too, but the statistics from the RKI show that the "new" wave is mostly among those who aren´t vaccinated. Despite that I am still cautious and very careful. It is always good to listen to your guts. Happy reading and thank you for the beautiful art in your post.

  25. A night for Screeming looks like a chase-style triller. Espeially with that tag line Escape me never.

Now that I've had my two jabs, I feel more confident here in the UK to go to big events. I think you're wise to be cautious, Greg.

  26. That's so frustrating that you can't go to the renaissance festival Greg! Since reading Well Met I have dreamt of visiting one!

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOL The Winds of Winter joke was really good!

  28. Our Ren Fest starts tomorrow, I'm going to try to go this year. With it being outside I figure I can keep my distance most of the time and have a mask if I feel I can't. I wanted to go to the SantaCaliGon Festival that is here where I live, but no one in my family wanted to go, so I probably won't make it this year. Which is sad because they didn't have it last year and I was really excited to go this year. Hope you have a good week!

  29. I love going into bookstores to browse for books! I hardly ever do these days, but that should change.

Great covers! Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

  30. Sorry you had to opt out of the Renaissance Festival, but it was probably a wise choice.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey Greg, I went to one of those Renaissance Festivals 20+ years ago. It was a fun experience but, it wasn't the type of thing I'd go to had I not been dragged there LOL Enjoy those new books; fun browsing for sure.

  32. Just when we started getting back to some sense of normality it feels like it's all falling apart again. Hope you get to see the renaissance festival sometime, even if it doesn't happen this year!

  33. I can't say I blame you for being unsure about going. On one hand I'm vaccinated and I take as many precautions as I can, but I still get uncomfortable around crowds. I think that will be something I struggle with for a while after this is all over.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd love to go to a Renaissance Fair but I don't blame you for hesitating under the circumstances. I love the retro Harlequin cover. I hope you have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sorry you might have to miss the Renaissance Fair, no wonder you hesitate already having experienced Covid yourself. Those books look great you got from the second hand book shop.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am sorry you are missing the fair Greg, but sounds like the best thing to do. (Also that pulp cover is awesome1)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ugh I am so bummed about the Ren Fest too! We had hoped to take Wyatt this year but are skipping it for the same reasons. :( Hopefully next year. :(

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yay for used bookstores! You got some good ones.
I know, it's hard about having to miss certain things now with Covid still around. We were just talking about how our fav annual BBQ fest has been cancelled for the second year now again. We've been venturing out but nowhere crowded and only indoor places that require masks and social distancing.
    Enjoy your books this week!

  39. The fair sounds fun but yeah with Covid, it might not be such a good idea. Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  40. A Renaissance Festival sounds like fun but with Covid running rampant again it would be a hard decision. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  41. We've had a long-running Renaissance Fair not far from us. Every year I see the ads and think about going, but we never do! For some reason, wearing a mask outdoors seems like the last straw to me and I mind it much more than wearing a mask indoors, but they say the Delta variant is that contagious that outdoors in a crowd could still be risky, and chances are that most people will not be masking up outdoors, so it's better to be safe than sorry!

  42. I went to that Ren Faire all the time when I was in college. I miss it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't know about you but I'm so tired of Covid screwing up every event I'd like to attend. Makes me even more angry and frustrated with all of the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers out there who are just keeping it going. Sorry, rant over, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, there's a concert coming up that I'd like to attend but... not happening. It's just not worth taking the chance. *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  45. The IL Renfaire ended this weekend too. One of my friends went and he said it was a lot more crowded than he expected. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've never been to a Renaissance Fair but Will has been really wanting to go to one. Maybe when he's off treatment we will and hopefully Covid will be more controlled by then! Hope you're having a wonderful week!

    ReplyDelete
  47. You always have such fascinating videos and artwork. My stepmother loved attending Renaissance fairs. Love the book cover this week.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  48. I'm in love with this colorful post! Thanks for sharing :) 💜

  49. What did you decide about the RenFaire? I miss going to things like that, but with such high transmission rates, I'm not going anywhere I don't have to. Hopefully next year, though. Whatever you decided, I hope you had a great weekend, and that you stay healthy.

The Seafarer's Lullaby is pretty but creepy. It certainly wouldn't give me sweet dreams!

Those "pulp" SF covers look pretty typical of the ones from my youth and childhood. Is that bottom one (the last ERB cover) a Frazetta cover? Sure looks like it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. That cover - I mean who, at some point, has not run scantily clad with no bra through some sort of field, holding a gun and being chased by a car? Perfectly normal, nothing to see here ;)
