Sunday Post #406

So masks are really dropping off over here. I live in a very red county though- it's totally flipped from EVERYONE wearing a mask to almost everyone NOT wearing a mask. Which, I get, may be because of high vacc rates. But... I kinda doubt it. At least, not entirely. 😧

I finished Panic and have written most of my recap posts. More of those this week, and Movies That Suck returned with a classic. You can find that here if interested. I also got a new movie- The Lost Continent- on Blu ray finally and that will be my next Movie That Sucks. Oh, and I read The Girls are All So Nice Here. Um. Thanks to Shannon at It Starts At Midnight for sending that my way. What a trip! Have you read it????

In other news the Olympics are coming- yay! I love the Olympics- the swimming and rowing events are my favorite. Oh, and diving. And um track too. So yeah. Are you excited? As many of you know I've been watching these walking videos on Japan. I feel like some of these areas are familiar to me now, and they mention places and I'm like- oh yeah. :) So I'm geeked. And speaking of night walks

This walk is a night walk through Tokyo in the rain. I love the atmospheric of these.

I'm liking the idea of sharing a tweet occasionally to generate discussion.

  1. I am excited about the Olympics too. I hope it all goes smoothly

  2. Are the Olympics still happening? I heard they were still trying to figure things out. I hope so, I love them as well😁

  3. I really hope the COVID cases in Japan subside. It would be nice for us to return to some normalcy and be able to enjoy pride of our countries through the Olympics, I'm sure it would take our minds off of the worries we've been having. But, I understand if they can't go through with it.

  4. Same here with the masks. It's gone to like 90/10 - and it's the 90% that have quit wearing them. I'm excited for the Olympics - the women's gymnastics are my favorite.

  5. I live in a really red state, but the bluest part of the the state, which is not even blue but more purple (we did give Obama and Biden one electoral vote...District 2 in Omaha almost always goes Democrat, thank God). There were still so many people who would not wear masks even with the mandate, so I know plenty of those d-bags aren't getting vaccinated on account of Covid still being a hoax an all *hard eyeroll here*. Eleanor is not old enough to be vaccinated so we still wear masks everywhere. Plus, I have too many awesome masks to stop wearing them - mainly my Fuck the patriarchy, Black Lives Matter, and Human Beings are not illegal masks, which a lot of people haaaaaaaate to see here because they're racist and ignorant. It makes me happy to piss those people off.

  6. Arggghhh, people not wearing masks. *hides indoors forever* It's a nightmare. I wish scientists had been better about collaborating with the media from the start.

  7. June 31, bwahaha. We used to play that joke in school, about promises that were never meant to be kept. See how these old things still keep running on. ;-) I hope the Lost Continent turns out to be one of those So-Bad-It's-Good Movies! And now I'm really interested in The Girls are All So Nice Here. They are? Why does that sound so ominous!?

  8. I'm so excited for the Olympics! I love watching all the sports, but especially the swimming and diving. And the gymnastics. And the equestrian events! I live in Salt Lake City, so when the Winter Olympics were held here in 2002 I actually got to go to a lot of events. It was awesome. :D

  9. I do like the Olympics - I'm probably most interested in gymnastics during the Summer. I have not yet read The Girls Are All So Nice Here but it's on my wish list and I really hope to soon.

  10. DUDE are the Olympics still happening!? Because I have a tag for that! And frankly, I want to get to use it again! It's kind of my masterpiece in terms of blogging. Plus as you know, I kind of live for swimming on my TV again!

I am SO glad that you liked Girls- I figured you would hah. Also SAME here in terms of the masks. It is frustrating since my kids cannot be vaccinated yet and I know full well people are NOT vaccinated and walking around maskless. So I wear the damn thing still because kids.

I love Dean Gloster, tbh, and that tweet is on POINT. That woman is a stain on humanity, tbh.

  11. Yay, the art is back! Though what in the heck is going on in the second to last piece? Until I saw the title, I thought it was a crime coverup in progress. Great skill though!

  12. Greg, I love watching the Olympics too! Some of my favourites are swimming, diving, gymnastics and track cycling. 🏊‍♂️🤸‍♀️🚴‍♀️😁 We're also seeing less people wearing masks - probably 50/50 now - but then we really do have high vaccination rates here in the UK. 💉

Take care and happy reading in the coming week 🙂

  13. LOL on reply by June 31! Sigh I wish these politicians did a better job. And I have been been seeing a similar trend over here too, people being so lethargic over the rules suddenly.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I love the Olympics and am so glad they are finally coming back! I can't wait to watch the gymnastics portion, although pretty much all of the events are fun!

  15. I can't say anything about the mask thing because I haven't worn one pretty much the whole time, but yeah I am in a red state. I am glad the Olympics are going on for those who work so hard to be in them and those who like to watch them, I am not a watcher though.

Have a great week and happy reading!! :)

  16. Ha-ha, June 31! That B is so stupid, lol.

I hope you enjoy the Olympics...and I like your videos, as usual. I keep staring at Fireplace.

Have a great week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  17. In Germany the vaccination programm is making slowly progress so not wearing a mask is not an option. At least not now. On the other hand we are allowed to have more people around us now and from three households instead of only two. Enjoy the Olympics.

  18. There's lots of conspiracy theories on the virus for sure, and quite a few conversations. Yay to the Summer Olympics which I've loved since I was a kid. I'm a serious, serious track and field and gymnastic fan, but I get into the swimming and other sports too. It's yet another way to keep me glued to my couch with cheeseburgers and strawberries, Gorgeous Greg!(lol) The signs came off the doors at grocery stores and Walmart, and I think that was pretty much a go to no longer wear masks around here in NC. Some still wear them, which is cool, but the prices of masks have been significantly discounted within the past few days or so. Be well and sending lots of hugs your way. RO

    ReplyDelete
  19. Masks have disappeared here too, but not many were compliant with them to begin with. Too many conspiracy theories floating around, no one knew what to trust I think. Thankfully most of my close friends and family were not among the unmasked before being vaccinated. Hope you have a great week :)

  20. The Olympics!I love the them! Can't wait for the gymnastics and the swimming and the track! I'm looking forward to the USA wmns gymnastics team. I'm really looking forward to June 31st this year. It's my 29th birthday! (LOLOLOLOL)

    ReplyDelete
  21. In a red state especially, one has to doubt about people dropping the masks because they have been, indeed, vaccinated. How can one know? I hope for your sake they are!

    Love that Fireplace.

  22. I'm really excited about the Olympics as well. I've been looking forward to something positive amid all this pandemic and political stuff. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly.

  23. The same thing happened here with masks. I rarely see people wearing them. My job doesn’t require masks anymore, and all the employees are vaccinated, so this was my first week without my mask. It felt really weird! I miss my pretty mask. I did love having fog-free glasses though.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  24. I hardly see anyone wearing a mask around here now. My daughter said her job doesn't even require it anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Masks are disappearing here, too. And I'm not ready for that. I'm in a rural (and red) county, too. Our percentage of vaccinated adults isn't great either. I am not removing my mask in public anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  26. At first people were still wearing masks even after the restrictions were lifted, but it seems like people are going the other way now and not wearing them. Panic is on my list to watch. I'm finishing up Manifest now.

I hope you have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  27. My state's mask mandate will be lifting June 15th to align with the CDC's recommendations. People here are acting like it means the pandemic is over. My husband and I are vaccinated so my worry is less about me and more for my daughter who cannot be vaccinated yet. We will continue to wear masks and social distance as best we can.

I knew the Olympics were postponed to this year, but I hadn't realized it was that time again already! I don't know how much we will watch since we do not have cable or any of the regular network stations. I'm sure there is a way we can stream something online. I find I'm less excited about them this year. I do hope to catch some of the gymnastics and swimming though.

I hope you have a great week, Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think not wearing masks will feel so weird here too! Like vaguely threatening.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The Olympics? I totally forgot about it! I like watching the ice skating. Our state mandate for masks ends on June 15th but a ton of places will still require them. Lots of workplaces. My hospital for instance. I'm vaccinated so I'm not so worried, but I worry for the ones who haven't been vaccinated.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is a racist moron. How is she even an elected official?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Masks are pretty much gone here too. I still wear mine because Dante can't be vaccinated and I just want to be extra cautious about what I bring home to him. It just sucks because people not wearing masks pretty much means public areas are not an option for him for quite some time 😢

I forgot about the Olympics! I have never watched summer as much as winter. Have a great week!

  31. Ever since I learned the Olympics are starting soon, I've been like, "Is it here yet? How about now?" I just want it already lol. Gymnastics! Yeah I doubt all the people not wearing masks have actually been vaccinated, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh I forgot about the Olympics! Now I'm excited! It feels like forever since I watched anything Olympic. I hope you have a wonderful week.

  33. Olympics! I love swimming too! Watching Michael Phelps over the years was so exciting. I'm bummed he won't be there this year, but I'm excited to find some new people to admire.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm so surprised that the Olympics are going on given how bad COVID is over there. I truly hope it goes well and people stay safe. I hope you have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Funny about the June 31st date! I don't really get into the Olympics, used to when I was a kid though. I hope it goes well, our team are looking forward to it. They've all been vaccinated I think. I just hope poor Japan cope with having such bad dose of Covid at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I do like the Olympics, but I am not sure about these ones. It is going to be weird atmosphere wise, and to be honest I am not sure it should be going ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Our mask mandate is supposed to end tomorrow. For the most part, there's plenty of people wearing masks when indoors here. I see it mainly dropped for people outside - but that makes sense to me. I think people would be surprised by this because I actually live in a pretty conservative area. I'm looking forward to the end of the mandate because I think sometimes it's silly. The grocery store makes sense to me, but walking from the door of a restaurant to my outdoor table 5 feet away feels silly - I do it, but it's silly lol. Also, we have stores making really weird rules like a local Games Workshop store - if you have a reservation to play a game, you have to wear a mask at all times, but if you're just there to shop, you don't have to. It's things like that that make masks just seem ridiculous, you know? Like I wish there was a standard and everyone followed the same science. Either way, my whole family is vaccinated now, so I'll be dropping the mask when stores don't require it.

I love the Olympics! I love the gymnastics portion. Swimming and Diving is fun too. I didn't realize it was still happening haha There's been so much back and forth it seems.

Hope you have a great week!

  38. June 31, 2021. A day... that doesn't exist. Lol. What a moron. I'm excited for the Olympics too! Though I am worried about Japan being the hosts because of the potential for virus spikes. I still can't wait to watch!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The masks are off here too, in our county. Our county does have a pretty good rate of vaccination but.. I am sure some of these people were people who never wanted to wear them anyway and are taking advantage of the system now. :( Which is fine for me I guess since I am vaccinated, but cheaters really affect my son. So my 6 year old will have to wear one while adults don't. I guess I am feeling pretty salty about it right now! Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We don't have to wear masks in Ohio now either. No one around my area really wears them anyway. The vaccine rate is not very high in my area though. So I still do wear my mask. Have a great week!

  41. I like the Olympics too. It should be interesting to see how it is handled. I don't see many masks around here anymore. I have one in my purse but don't wear it at the grocery story anymore. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  42. LMAO at MTG. Lord, what a hopeless basket case. Anyway, finally got a booking for our second dose, so excited for that. However, our lockdown order hasn't been relieved. I honestly can't wait, but I think I will be wearing a mask for an indeterminate period of time. Sigh.

    Have a great week, Greg!

  43. I also enjoy watching the Olympics. At the moment the European Football Championship is going on and it's a big thing here in Europe. And I'm loving watching it so far too. ;)
Have a great week Greg and happy reading.

  44. I just read another MTG tweet about the virus had to be a bioweapon because god wouldn't allow a disease that killed people and...*confused face* lol

Mask wearing is weird out here. Some stores dropped the requirement if you're vaccinated and in my county with a very low vax rate has very few people wearing them but in my nearby county with a high rate, almost everyone is still wearing them indoors.

I'm still wearing mine indoors for now until everyone who wants a shot has the chance to get one and we're closer to the 70%.

  46. I am more of a winter Olympics fan, but I think I will have to give the summer Olympics a shot lol! I am crossing my fingers and praying for the day that I can take my mask off when I grocery shop lol! We'll see how it goes!

  47. The mask thing feels kind of weird to me. I'm still wearing one in stores even though I've been vaccinated for a couple of months. I don't know -- I feel like how don't the employees know that and I don't want to make them uncomfortable. Yes to the Olympics. Happy reading!

    ReplyDelete
  48. We're about 50/50 on the masks here. It's all just so weird. I'm pretty excited for the Olympics too. Swimming, soccer, and gymnastics are my favorites. Goodness, that Majorie Taylor Greene is a real piece of work.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm not seeing a lot of masks here either. Do people think the virus is gone? A friend's cousin died last week from Covid. No vaccinations in that family. Sigh.

I'm excited about the Olympics. It is wonderful to have something to look forward to!

    ReplyDelete
  50. We still need to wear masks, but I'll probably feel weird taking them off again after so long when we're allowed to anyway :) Love those rainy night walks!

  51. I was down south during the weekend and omg so maskless, while here everyone wears one

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm excited to see the women's gymnastics! When do the Olympics start? Google says July 23rd. Thanks, Google.

I have NOT read The Girls are All So Nice Here but since you said it was a trip I am now #3 in line for two ebook copies from the library.

  53. Masks are pretty much gone here. Even though the signs say if you haven't been vaccinated you should still wear one. I got vaccinated as soon as I could, because I'm not a fan of wearing a mask, even though I did when I was supposed to. Hope you're having a good week!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Three weeks ago when Baz went shopping at Wegmans about 98% of people were wearing masks, last week it was the reverse. Kids 2-12 are supposed to still be wearing them, but not even they are. 😐

Sorry I'm so late getting here. 😌
