Sunday Post #398

Tonight is takeout night- Chinese!

This week I finished Good Girls Lie and LOVED it. My first 5 star of the year? Also I posted part four of my story To Love Is Human and reviewed Last Night at the Telegraph Club.

Tonight Virtual Japan premiered a new video.

I'm liking the idea of sharing a tweet occasionally to generate discussion.

  1. I loved Good Girls Lie, too! Enjoy your weekend. :D

  2. I really liked Good Girls Lie too. I read her most recent book, Her Dark Lies and I liked it but not quite as much.

  3. That video was so fucking infuriating. What makes it worse is that this happened back in I think December, so they've had the body cam footage since then. It is only after the video went viral, during the Derek Chauvin MURDER trial, that the officer was fired. Had no one ever seen the footage, you know that piece of trash would still have a job. And don't even get me started on the murder of Daunte Wright. Trying to get away from the police is not a capital offence. She meant to use her taser? Really? Service weapons are carried on the dominant-hand side. The taser is a cross body pull. They are positioned this way for the express purpose of NOT MIXING THEM UP. I am so angry and disgusted and furious and every other word that means pissed off.

    1. I loved Good Girls Lie and have been waiting ages for you to finish it so we can talk about it!

    2. It's completely inexcusable. There is no reason for this to happen and I want her pension taken. As of right now, she gets to keep it because she resigned. Fucking bullshit.

Chauvin's defense attorney is joke and I really want to wipe that smug and smarmy smile of his and Chauvin's faces. Absolutely gross. I have been praying and praying and praying for the right outcome. All it takes is one juror to have doubt and it is a mistrial. I can't imagine how it would feel to his family to go through this again and again, but we can not stop until there is justice for him.

  4. I don't read a lot of psychological thrillers, but I have seen many raves for Good Girls. Glad it was a hit for you

  5. Well now I want Chinese food, so thanks for that hah. I hope it was good!

Also can I just co-sign Sarah's comment? Because YEP. I am so angry and disgusted, how will this end? It NEEDS to end, but if anything, it's gotten worse!

Guess I need to get my hands on Good Girls Lie, eh? Sounds awesome! At least Japan is lovely. Let's go to Japan. (Japan doesn't want us, do they? Sigh.) Can't wait for more Synth Story!!

  6. I am glad you enjoyed Good Girls Lie. I look forward to reading it. Last Night at the Telegraph Club is on my wish list. The news lately has been horrible, mass killings and bad behavior by the police. Change is desperately needed.

I hope you have a great week, Greg.

  8. Hey, I went back and read your Godzilla vs. Kong review because I actually saw it tonight! The local drive-in was showing it and I just couldn't resist, since it was such a "drive-in" theater film. Gotta agree with everything, but still loved the experience because it was such a sublimely cheesy movie! :D

  9. Elison is a fantastic author, and I love how she interacts so much with readers on Instagram. Most of us have jobs with specific requirements, and I promise none of them include the use of cruel acts toward others. It just saddens me to see these things keep happening. Thanks for the post. Hope you're doing well, Gorgeous Greg. Hugs, RO

  10. What's even more absurd about that video is that man was a colleague officer, for goodness' sake. They didn't even TRY.

It was ages since I watched a PP cartoon LOL. I almost forgot her antics! πŸ˜‚

Looking forward to your review of your first 5-star book of the year πŸ˜‰.

  11. Oh my, glad you liked Good Girls Lie but I think that was a 2 star for me...lol. :) Have a great week and happy reading!!

  12. Glad you have found your first 5-star read of the year, Greg:)). As for the video - I'm boggled. As someone who isn't a US citizen, I generally hesitate to comment critically about aspects of your political and social culture that I don't know very much about. But it seems the wrong sort are being selected as police officers and the canteen culture is utterly toxic. Something needs to be about it urgently. Have a wonderful week.

  13. The news this week has been horrific. That poor Army LT was unbelievable. How could he get out of the car without moving his hands from over his head. You know that crazy cop would have shot him if reached for the door. And, the other black man that was stopped for a hanging air freshner on his rearview mirror - seriously? Then the 13 year old that was killed - I'm sure I missed some as well. This is so out of hand!

  14. I keep thinking I have read Good Girls Lie...but I haven't! I must change that.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for sharing the videos.

  15. I really enjoyed the Sunset Beach video/music, a good way to start my Sunday. I'm glad the Army Lt is still alive, how sad is that. And why was he being pulled over in the first place. Why are we still doing traffic stops anyway, run plates and send fines or tickets in the mail. And stop chasing people, I wonder how much policing is influenced by decades of police shows.
Anyway, thanks for the post! Have a good week!

  16. Chinese take-out is my favorite night. My daughter doesn't like it, it's like is she really my daughter!!! :)

I am glad you found your first 5 star, they are rare to me these days but I did have my first also :)

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  17. I've been horrified by the video of the officers intimidating and mistreating Lt. Nazario... horrified, but sadly not surprised. And that happened in my state. SMH. Cops are supposed to protect and defend, not harrass, intimidate, and (in other cases, but thankfully not this one) kill. I'm not sure what the solution is; there's certainly a need for police and detectives to deal with serious crimes, but this crap where they feel entitled to harm or kill people, especially BIPOC, has got to stop. Somehow, the police culture needs to incorporate a version of the Hippocratic Oath: First, do no harm.

  18. Last Night at the Telegraph Club sounds like a must read. Also, love that cover!! Glad to know that you finally have a 5-star this year!! Gonna have to check Good Girls Lie!!

Hope you have a great week, Greg!

  19. I love Chinese food. We had that earlier in the week. I'm going to look for Good Girls Lie. I read something from this author a few weeks ago and really liked it. Hope you have a great week!

  20. My favorite Chinese restaurant doesn't deliver. And I'm too lazy to do takeout most of the time. If I go to a restaurant, I kind of want to be able to eat there. That Tweet just makes me so mad. I like Lark's suggestion up above about the police needing a motto like doctors, first do no harm. Hope you have a good week. Thanks for visiting my Sunday post at Lisa Loves Literature as well!

  21. The creepy Siamese... What a title. My eldest cat, the one who always fights with Elza, is a crossbred Siamese and she is a bit creepy come to think of it!

Hope you will have a good week with some more 5 star reviews for you!

  22. Good Girls Lie is on my TBR. I've been purely escape reading (partly because of things like the horrific and insane treatment of Lt. Nazario) and have been reaching for thrillers or anything dark lately but you have reconsidering. Have a great week!

  23. Congrats on your first 5-star read!

That police video is so disturbing. What really makes me upset is that if the media gets a hold of this, it will be twisted in all ways possible, or say the video was 'staged.' I'm so tired of it...

  24. Congratulations on your first 5 star read! I am definitely going to check out Good Girls Lie. Have a great week!

  25. Good Girls Lie sounds interesting---I'll have to check that out. Hope you enjoy your Chinese!

  26. We get Chinese a lot on Wednesday due to a buy one meal get one for $1.00 deal. LOL We've been doing a lot of doordash.

  27. I just can't even watch that video. I don't understand why police still think this is okay. And especially with the other shootings.

I can't see the Pink Panther without thinking of my father-in-law. He loves the Peter Sellers movies. He'll try to tell us about a scene and start laughing so hard, he can't even finish his thought! Every. Single. Time!

    Enjoy your week!

  28. I read Her Dark Lies by J.T. Ellison and loved it so I'm excited to hear you love Good Girls Lie! I need to request a copy from the library. Omg! The Pink Panther movies were soooo funny!

  31. Yay for a five star! πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

I realized yesterday that we hadn't had our take-out for the month, so its Chinese for us on Wednesday! I'm going to get sweet snd sour shrimp. 🍀🍀🍀

They pulled him over for no tags on the rear of the car; not noticing he had a temporary tag displayed correctly in his back window. That's why they let him go. They pulled him over for no reason. He had just bought the vehicle. If they had answered his questions he could have pointed that out. Most cops are on power trips. πŸ˜’

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  32. Yay for your first 5 star read of the year! Ugh, that police incident happened here in Virginia. Everyone wants to think of Virginia as this progressive blue state but it's unfortunately still full of racist a$$holes.

  33. Something needs to change, such repetitive displays of inhumanity are depressing.
I’m glad you had a great read though

Wishing you a great reading week

  39. Greg I am always horrified when I hear of such police violence, it is so criminal. Ours aren't as bad but there are traces of it. They do a great job really but some aspects just let them down. Nice you had a 5 star read. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oooh 5 star reads are always exciting!! Here's to hoping you have many more this year!

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's horrifying to think of how many police hate crimes there have been over the years and are happening still that the public never heard about or will hear about. Twitter is such a rabbit hole for me that I don't check it too frequently, but it is where I hear most of my news these days.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What on earth? Is the footage from a CCTV? Or was it taken from a private phone/ camera? If it's from a private device, who and why would shoot this at such close range? I literally couldn't believe what was going on.
The Pink Panther video cheered me up, but then what happens to the poor dog reminded me too much of the other video...

    ReplyDelete
  43. The state of America leaves me speechless. I honestly can't handle another news of cops' abuse of power and yet another mass shooting south of us. It's heartbreaking news everyday.

Anyway, I saw Godzilla vs Kong and I have to say, it's uhm...weird and not in a good way. Sigh.

Hope you're having a great week, Greg!

  44. That video and the cop abuse is just horrible. I really don't get any of it. I'm glad to hear the news today about that cop Chauvin. Hopefully this is the beginning of change.
Have a great week and happy reading.
