Sunday Post #308

I have to apologize to some of my readers for last weeks Sunday Post, I'm afraid. I posted some pulp covers, including the one below, and at least one commenter mentioned that they looked for the book. Which, given the title, I completely understand? I mean, who wouldn't want a copy of that gem? Just saying...

In other news I finished Black Spot and there is a hole in my life now. Seriously- I love that show. So eerie and mysterious. I think it's one of my fave shows. I hope more people watch it so I can talk spoilers. Otherwise, the only other news is that we had a microburst (I'd never heard of that) blow through- I was up reading at about 2 am and heard a whooshing sound- I thought for a minute of a tornado. The cats were staring at the skylights. Then we just got a super intense storm- but the next day I found out at least one house had their roof ripped off.

Oh, remember the deer on the beach from a few weeks ago? It appeared again, this time to crash a proposal! You can see the story here

  1. I'll be waiting on pins and needles to your reaction to Someone We Know! I thought it was even more intense than her last one, curious to see what you think! Also lovely art picks this week, I have a soft spot for paintings that feature wildlife!

  2. Definitely looking forward to your review of Someone we know -- I don't know why I found it so hard to go back to Lapena, but I have since reading her first book. Also: Girl who don't read are skanks?!?! I went from horrified to LMAO and then to WHAT. Where do you find these>!

  3. The deer is so beautiful! I shudder when I think about the poor beasts being hunted. I loved that book title...skanks was always a favourite insult at my school!

  12. That deer is too fabulous! I would want to read about girls who don't read being skanks too. We should make that happen, and now, I have to read about microbursts. Glad you didn't get bursted on.

  13. We had something pretty similar to a microburst come through my area, too. It was very short, but caused so much damage - there were tree limbs down all over our street and lots of people lost power.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Glad to hear you didn't suffer any damage from the microburst. It does sound scary! Love that deer! Hope you enjoy The Girl in Red. I'm going to request a library copy. :)

  23. Wow, that is scary about the storm.
And that Girls who don't read cover made me lol.
Glad you enjoyed Black Spot, I'll have to take a look at that one.
Enjoy your week! aww the deer.

  24. No, I'd hadn't heard about mircoburst before either, Greg. Nature sure does like to flex her muscles every once in a while.

Hope you have a great week. Here's my Sunday Post

  25. That's so crazyabout the microburst. We had something like that come through here around dinnertime on Tuesday and I immediately thought of a tornado as well because of the sound it was making and the way the wind was blowing. It was short but intense and took down some powerlines a few miles down the road.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I saw something on the weather channel about that microburst. Crazy. And the deer on the beach is too cute (but I would be totally freaked out if it got that close to me)

    ReplyDelete
  27. There was a microburst in Henderson where my dad lives a few years ago. The awning for the carport across the street blew off and landed in my dad's backyard.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That deer seems to like people *lol* What a picture. Who else can say that a deer was present while they had their important moment?

    ReplyDelete
  29. wonder what the deer and the proposal mean...could someone be giving their blessing? :-)

  30. Urg - sorry to hear about someone losing their roof in the storm and I'm glad you didn't sustain any damage. That deer is amazing... I hope you have an enjoyable, peaceful week, Greg:)

  31. I've never heard of a microburst before. The name is pretty innocuous, but the reality sounds scary.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's some really cool artwork! I've been wanting to check out Black Spot so I'm glad you'll like it. Maybe I'll bump it up in my queue!

  33. I love the photo of the Ramen Shop. It makes me want to go back to Tokyo!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lol, I'm liking that deer! It has character.
I can't believe someone lost their roof! That's insane. I've never heard of a microburst before! Freaky stuff.
Hope you have a good week, Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Love the deer! I think that's the only photo bomb I'd be okay with during a proposal! The microburst is freaky. They're so unnerving and while you don't have much warning with a regular tornado you generally have a few minutes at least. Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  36. OKAY SO, like probably everyone, I'm super excited to hear your thoughts on Someone We Know. Also, OOHH, I'm so intrigued by Black Spot? And now I'm like ? Why am I only just hearing about this show ? It sounds right up my alley.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I've never heard of a microburst either. Glad you were safe, but that's terrible about the house that lost their roof. That's too funny about the deer crashing a proposal, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm glad it wasn't your roof that blew off, but I'm sorry for the people whose house it was!

I love the deer on the beach, and some of this week's art picks are right up my alley, especially The Iron Fleet, The Beacon, and Blue. (Wish I had Blue as wallpaper on my computer!)

  39. I Dive for Treasure reminds me of the episode of The Office where Jim and Dwight were in charge of parties and for Kelly's Dwight made a sign that said, "It is your birthday". It's a statement of fact. Kind of like that title.

  40. No need to apologise, I was only disappointed to learn it was fake because I was so curious to read the premise LOL
I’ve finished binging Star Trek Voyager, and am trying to get through Deep Space 9...it’s my least favourite Star Trek series and I’ve never made it all the way through, I can’t wait til Picard though, the trailer is awesome!

Wishing you a great reading week

  41. All this art work is so freaking gorgeous 😍 I really wish I had that kind of talent. Also that pulp cover: Girls who don't read are Skanks really made me laugh. I'd definitely buy it if it was real!

  42. What a cute friendly deer. Hmm sounds like a big summer storm, hmm reading at 2am!!

  43. What a cute deer and way to photo bomb the proposal Mr. Deer. That microburst sounds interesting. Storms tend to scare me so I'd have probably freaked out some. I love Forest Priest but with the wolves, that's a no brainer. Hope you have a great week Greg!

  44. I haven't heard of a microburst. I'm glad your home didn't suffer damage. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
