So this week flew by! Mine was pretty low key. The World Cup is over and while I'm happy for the US, I honestly would have been happy either way. And honestly, I think it's just the atmosphere I love- it's like the Olympics. I just like when they come together on the world stage.

In other news, this happened this week.

My reading has been all over the map this week. I wasn't really feeling anything so I picked up The Christmas Card Crime and Other Stories- part of the British Library Crime Classics- and I've been enjoying the short stories. Sometimes a short story is just what you need. And I'm hoping to read The Girl in Red this weekend or at least soon.

  1. Last Ones Left Alive is one I have on my watchlist - haven't heard too much about it or seen much buzz or reviews yet, but I'm curious! Would be interested to hear what you thought.

  2. Oh wow, love the deer video! Also, I love how the people are just watching it and not interfering. So respectful.

  3. I can't believe that the Olympics are next year. The years are going by a bit too quickly for my liking. I wish I was a vampire!

  4. Love the art! And that soylent green tee made me laugh.
(And I just got my copy of The Girl In Red from the library, and I'm very excited to start reading it.)

  5. That deer was just enjoying the water. lol

  6. The World Cup didn't give me the feels of the Olympics, because I felt there was a lot of drama, but I love seeing the whole world competing every two years.

  7. I agree, short stories just hit the spot sometimes. Especially when you want a quick resolve. Solent Green freaked me out. I was a little kid when I watched it with my mom. :)

  8. WOW, a deer showed up at a beach with people? That's pretty unusual, isn't it?
I agree about big international sports events - what I enjoy the most about it is the atmosphere, and the feeling that we actually can live together - all of us.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  11. Thank you for all the art - and that clip of the deer down at the waters' edge in amongst the people without appearing to be remotely afraid. I wonder what was going through its head? I've been in the throes of Wimbledon, himself is glued to the Cricket World Cup and Silverstone F1 is also on today - and we're entertaining! I'm formally in disgrace... Have a great week, Greg.

  15. I like deer. We get a lot of them around where I live and they always make me smile... Except for when they run out in front of the car from what feels like nowhere!

  16. I love short stories too especially during busy times. I haven't read any for awhile. i must remedy that.

  22. The atmosphere around big sports events is so great! I love watching almost everything and see how inspiring sport can be))

  23. Glad you enjoyed the World Cup :-) That deer video is awesome! That deer is so unconcerned about the people, just like, "I wanna get my feet wet, so I'm gonna!" lol

  24. I'm sad I missed the World Cup. I love that kind of atmosphere. I've been watching Wimbledon.

  25. I'm kind of bummed the World Cup is over too. I'm thrilled for our team, but I just really love the atmosphere too and seeing so many great soccer players from all over the world.

  30. I know what you mean about short stories. I just got a huge anthology and am thinking about reading one story a day around my usual novels. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  31. We have a local swimming lagoon that's in a nature preserve. We have swum with geese and gulls but never a deer. My week in review

  32. Great artwork as always! I really want to know your final thoughts no The Girl in Red, I recently read Lost Boy by Christina Henry and really enjoyed it! Not sure which of her books I should read next.

    Have a wonderful week!

  33. I think you are right about the atmosphere of world sport and wasn't it great to see the US take the women's soccer. Isn't that captain so wonderful - go her I say! She has had good coverage here. Thanks for looking up cricket on YouTube - we are still recovering, but that nose to nose world sport and the atmosphere is amazing. By the way I think baseball is pretty fast but cricket has managed to speed up too now with different formats of the game.

  34. Short stories are great to break up the routine! And they feel more manageable than a novel sometimes when you're in a slump.

The Girl in Red looks really interesting - hope it's good!

  35. I'll be interested to hear what you think of the Girl in Red. I was on the fence about it. ;) And that Moon 1 is pretty freaky, I'm not sure I want to know what's going on there. Maybe I have a dirty mind?!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've been meaning to read Girl in Red. I just need a moment to sit down with it! I got side tracked on my short story project back in April. Oops!! The Tower or Ruins ... my top pic of the week.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The deer video is amazing! And the reaction of the people, wow ... Thanks for sharing this with us.

  38. I was scrolling down this post and I saw the RIme artwork and I was like 'I'm sure that's a game' I then read what was written by it and realised I spend too much time gaming. I shouldn't instantly recognise a game from a glance! And look at the deer! That's a very cool video, how weird it just came out to the beach when there were so many people about.

    Anyway, have a good week.
