Sunday Post #487

Wow- what a week. As many of you are aware Mom's been in the hospital since New Years. She's been short of breath and has a range of things going on. She came home this week but refused to go into rehab, which they recommended, due to a bad experience there previously. So she came home with a recommendation of 24 hour support for a few days and also occasional visits from home health aides, nurses, and whatnot. I'm glad she's home but there isn't really one specific cause of the problem, it's more of a constellation of smaller issues all contributing.

Anyway I had lots of comments about the Namor Funko Pop I displayed last week. My daughter got it for me for Christmas as she knows I'm a huge Namor fan (from the comics- I haven't seen his portrayal in the Wakanda show yet) but there were lots of questions so I wanted to identify him. I had to laugh too at Bookstooge's remark.

Here is this week's lyric.

Your love's contagious. One kiss is dangerous

Here is the lyric f/ last week and the answer

It's a song about desperation. Every now and then we do get desperate.

   Song of the week

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

  1. Ughhh, ongoing medical stuff. Mrs B and I are currently dealing with that too and maaaaaan, it just sucks the energy right out of you, doesn't it? I'll be praying you have the strength to endure and for your mom to get better.

And thankyou for the shoutout. I guess you can tell, I "am" a big comic book geek/nerd ;-)

  2. Glad your mom is home, but I'm sorry they can't get on top of everything. Getting old really sucks. Hope she's doing better!

  3. Too bad your mom wouldn't go the rehab route since it sounds like that's what would be best for her right now. I hope the various issues are treatable or at least manageable. J.Geils had so many great songs.

  4. It is a lot of work supporting an older parent 24 7. That means more carer exhaustion and less self-time too,

  5. Animo y espero que tu mamá mejores. Me gustan las canciones. Buen fin de semana. Te mando un beso.

  6. I'm glad your mother is well enough to be home, and I hope she gets much better soon.

  7. I am glad your mom has improved enough to leave the hospital, but I imagine it's challenging having her at home instead of in rehab, especially when she still needs so much specialized care. I hope you are able to find time to take care of yourself too.

  8. When you say rehab, you mean acute care? My dad was in one for several months and hated it. He says you get no rest there. I hope mom is getting better and better each day, and that you can find her a wonderful care aid.

  9. I hope all is on the mend with your mom. That can take a lot out of both of you. Just cold here, but a promise of a warmer day today and tomorrow before another cold front moves in. It feels January is whipping by even if the weeks are long yet not enough time to do what I wish I was doing. Thanks for the tunes! & Inspirations. Thanks for the smile and the comments too. Hope you have some relaxing moments this month too.
I've been listening to folksy OH THE HELLOS and they always surprise me. Here's a link to a very sad song, but I finally found the song I had been looking for that was actually in this Korean Comedy High Kick 2. A song by the Velvet Underground. Pale blue Eyes.

  11. I'm glad your mom's home, hopefully she's settling in well even if she has refused the rehab due to a bad experience. I've had Journey to Apollo on in the background while I've been doing some blog hopping and the music is so relaxing. It also reminds me of video game music for some reason and now I want to play something but I don't know what.

  15. So glad your mom is home and I can understand her reluctance about going to the rehab place. We've had mixed experiences with them for family members. Hopefully things calm down a bit there. I hope you have a wonderful week and are able to get some restful time to yourself.

  16. Yay for your mom being home! I hope she gets the care she needs and completely recovers. Have a great weekend!

  17. Well, you know all my feelings about the 24/7 care. Maybe I can gather the other commenters to help stage some kind of intervention? But no seriously, I hope you are able to get some downtime soon- you need it just as much as she needs care, full stop. I do not have any idea who Little Funko Sir™ is, but he is very adorable and that is a super thoughtful gift!

  18. So sorry to hear about your mom. we are in a similar situation with my Grandpa. He is also very stubborn and does not want to go to assisted living. But he and Grandma can't do everything by themselves. Hopefully you are able to get that care in-home for your mom and things will settle down.

  19. Sorry to hear your mom is going through medical issues. That's never fun.

Okay, now I must read The Case of the Naked Diver. The title and cover have made me extremely curious about it.

  22. Gah. I've been having nurses at the house almost every day for 4 months now, to take care of my husband's medications and antibiotic therapy...it's both a relief and a burden. You have to be up/home at the right hour, clean after them...Also, in your case, you have to go back and forth from the hospital with your mum, which must be exhausting. I hope she'll be on the mends soon, and you can relax a bit yourself...I know how it feels.

  25. I'm glad you mom is home and I hope she gets better soon. That sucks about the bad rehab experience, hopefully the 24/7 care is better for her. Happy reading this week, the pulp cover description this week made me lol. "They found passion at the bottom of the sea"?

  26. I'm sorry about your mom. I hope she gets better soon. We are going through something similar with my mother-in-law. It's so hard. I hope you have a good week.

  27. I truly hope that your mom will get better soon and won't need that 24/7 assistance!

  28. Its tough to convince people to go to rehab centers and I get it-I would rather be in my own home as well. But it puts such a strain on the loved ones. So, hang in there!

  29. Ugh, I'm sorry about your mom! My stepfather didn't want to go to his rehab place, either, but I suspect his issues were quite different from your mom's.

  30. The healthcare system needs to be doing a better job for seniors. My mother is in an assisted living facility now, but when she was still in her senior living apartment she refused to go to rehab after the last two times she was in the hospital, because of a bad experience. 😐

Have a wonderful and uneventful new week. ☀

  31. Having a parent, who is sick, is no fun. I see it with my dad all the time. After a dentist appoinment my dad was in pain. He refused to take some painkillers or to keep that pressure clamp in his mouth, so that the wound wouldn´t bleed. The pressure from that clamp drove him crazy and aparently was sharp and because he couldn´t remember that he had been at the dentist he took it out and tasted the blood. And that scared him very much because he knew by instinct that the taste of blood in his mouth wasn´t a good thing. It was heartbreaking. I hope your mother will recover soon and feel much better.

  32. Oh I am so sorry, that is just the worst! I have had both parents had some hospital/medical stuff so I understand. I hope she gets on the road to healing soon.

  35. Hope that your mom does well at home and that she is getting the help she needs like you said with the 24 hour help. It is so hard to deal with those decisions for both sides! I enjoyed the new Wakanda movie. I didn't realize that's the same as your Funko! Well, here's hoping this coming week is a good one!

  39. I hope your mom improves. My mom just hasn't since she broke her hip a couple years ago. She never wanted to be in assisted living but she needs consistent help, more than any of us kids can provide. But I get it. I wouldn't want to be in a care facility either. I went to see Foghat, Santana and J Geils at the Iowa Fairgrounds when I was in high school. I remember I got sunburned and also that even though we were outdoors the smell of pot was strong.

  40. I'm sorry to hear about your mom - I'm sure she's glad to be home but it's so hard to deal, especially when it's a combination of issues. Hopefully the home care is working out and giving her the support she needs. Hope you have a good week ahead.

  41. Oh man, I hope your Mom is doing better! Is she at your place or is she in her own home? We went through that with my mom--although she was in Arizona, so it was my dad who really had to deal with it. But it is still tough! 50. My mother and mother-in-law are both living in their own homes still and the burden of care is falling mostly on daughters who are not working in order to take care of them (my sister, in my mother's case). Long term, it's really not sustainable, but so hard to make these tough decisions!

  51. I really hope your mother's health improves, and that you also take time for your own health and well-being.

  52. I hope your mom feels better soon! Taking care of elderly family members is challenging. My grandma lived with us for a while, and it was like taking care of a child who's as big as me.

  58. So sorry to hear about your mum, Greg, I missed the news when you shared it 😔 . . . I so hope she gets better soon, going to rehab would have been the best option, but since she didn't want to I really hope her situation is manageable from home and that she can still get the help she needs. As hard as it is, try to find some time for you, too, and get some rest *hugs*

P.S. What a cool Funko! Your daughter is really sweet 😊
