Return to Aldebaran episode two picks up right where the first one left off, with Kim returning to Aldebaran to get help while Marie deals with being a captive on the new world they're exploring. Unfortunately, political developments mean that Kim's request for aid is falling on deaf ears. Meanwhile, it looks like new attacks are planned to destabilize the mission, and an assassin from Kim's past arrives to try and take her out. In other words, things are going about as normal! It was a pleasure to jump into this one- it feels like it's been a while since the first one came out, so I was anxious to get this one.
These graphic novels only come out about once a year or so, so it takes a while for the story to develop. And this particular saga- the Aldebaran and related cycles- have been going on for years. I discovered them a few years ago and they're a blast. Kim and Marie are the main characters, but the supporting cast is diverse and varied, and it's fun to see how relationships develop and change over the course of the story. At the moment the overarching plotline is the exploratory mission that Kim and crew have taken through a gate to another planet, and the developments there as well as back home. Some of the supporting players have been around since the initial Aldebaran cycle, and so, again, it's fun to see them here.
If I have any complaints, it's that not a whole lot happens here. There are disasters and miscalculations, of course, and new players are introduced. And the crew risks being lost on this mysterious new world when shadowy forces attempt to maroon them there, but I was looking for a little more forward motion. Still, there are the usual twists and turns so I can't complain too much, and other than that I'm super happy with this one- honestly, I just love revisiting these worlds and characters. This is a fun new chapter and I'm already anxiously waiting for episode three!
That cover alone makes me want to check these graphic novels out. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not really into graphic novels but the cover looks fun.
ReplyDeleteI love how all three of them are so casually riding astride the... creature. (Not sure what that is exactly.)
ReplyDeleteLook at us, riding along, lol, nice one
