Sunday Post #246

So... Memorial Day is coming up here in the US. Really? A week away. Clearly someone is tampering with the timeflow or something. The East Lansing art festival is this weekend so I may be there on Saturday- not sure yet. Other than that May has been a pretty good reading month so far- I've had several good reads including Menagerie and my review of that will be on Wednesday. Also Movies That Suck this past week was Before I Fall, which was surprisingly good! This week will be The Birds, and I won't be calling it Movies That Suck because that movie is actually pretty awesome.

Reviews coming include Sky in the Deep and The Lies They Give. Also I'll be continuing my reviews of Star Trek: The Animated Series and Jonny Quest, as well as the occasional discussion post. And another Sexy Lyrics post is on the way.

  2. You have me wanting to reread the Hobbit. Yes we seem to be in a bit of a time-warp. I do hope the three day weekend moves slowly. In fact I would like summer to move at a snail's pace so I can embrace the sun and warmth.

  5. I love the Hobbit/LOTR themed art! The retro style doesn't quite "fit" as well as it does for Star Wars though, but I do think some of the more traditional, painted ones look amazing. That one with Gandalf and the eagle gives me chills.

  6. Hi Greg! Another great wrap-up post as always! I agree, The Birds is a masterful film; I've seen it many times over the years because I love Hitchcock movies.

Thanks for sharing views of The Shire. I wish I could visit there, ha. Makes me want to dig out my LOTR dvd trilogy today... enjoy your weekend.

  11. If you go I hope its fun and all for you Greg! That kitchens and modern art Hobbiton are so stellar they shined above the rest... but really this is such a good collection. I love checking out the art you find. :D I'm interest in your Sky in the Deep review!

  15. I don't understand how May is almost over either. My brain cannot compute. Very curious about your thoughts on Sky in the Deep, and Lies They Tell (I've heard muxed stuff about the latter). Love The Kitchens picture, and the Hobbiton one! And the cover of Starfire, it looks so fun and the colors are fabulous!!

  16. I love all of this images they are all glorious. You did, however, make me want to watch The Hobbit. Which is a good thing of course. I also can't belive Memorial day is here along with May being almost over. Time definitely is flying pretty fast. I you have a wonderful weekend. 💋 xoxo

  17. Oh I love the art from Pinterest this week. I can wait to read your thoughts on The Birds. It's one of the few Hitchcock movies I haven't watched though I do have it recorded. Have you read the story it was (very loosely) based on? It's by Daphne du Maurier and worth the read if you can find it. It definitely scared me! Have a great week!

  18. Just finished The Lies They Tell which reminded me of a darker Dawson's Creek. Am curious what you think of it!

  25. Those pics have made me wanna re-read The Hobbit. I read it when I was in 5th grade. It is such an incredible story.
The days are flying by. I was hoping to get to this point in the year. I think the older you get, the faster time moves for you. My birthday is Monday and I will well into my 40s. Ugh!
Have a great week and happy reading!

  29. This year is FLYING by and I have nothing to show for it. I can't even believe we are almost at the half way point. I feel like I will never catch up. I am sort of looking forward to next weekend but we will be at the shore so the traveling is a bit annoying. Wish it was a long weekend at home.

Before I fall was ok but I LOVED the Birds! I need to come and check out that post! :)

I just got Sky in the Deep, I hope you enjoyed it

I love the images, I almost want to make the kitchen my desktop wallpaper. I did that with another one you shared. It was a pirate ship restaurant. Such a great image. It's my favorite.

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  37. I still need to read Sky in the Deep. I started it, but just stopped. (Not in a bad way for the book, my head has just been all over the place in terms of what am I in the mood to read.)

    Shire pictures! *^-^*

I have read Before I Fall. It was ... okay. It's an interesting concept, but I didn't love the writing. I still kind of wished the ending had been changed, but I get it.

Time is racing through. I feel like it was just February! SLOW DOWN!

  38. Love The Birds! I actually went and visited Bodega Bay last October and saw the church and school the movie was filmed at. If I Stay was pretty good, but I don't think they're making the sequel. :( You must be on a Lord of the Rings kick with all the pics you posted. I love the pic with the reading nook and lights, also the one with the lady on her laptop by her aquarium window and the cat in the background. Neat! I can't believe we're already to Memorial Day either. Hope you enjoy the Art Festival! :)

  39. I love the image In Blue...I can visualize myself blogging there. LOL

I never tire of The Birds. In fact, I still hide my head when watching it.

I have some photos taken at Bodega Bay when I used to live in SF...it looks so calm and peaceful there. LOL

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  40. The Birds is a pretty good movie. Could you imagine if birds were as big as in that picture?

  41. If you go to the art festival, I hope you have a blast! There's a very popular outdoor one down here each spring and—I kid you not—for the last 5+ years they've had torrential rains during the fest. I feel so bad for the organizers that just can't catch a break.

I'm really curious to read your review of Sky in the Deep. Lots of bloggers have enjoyed it, but I was sad to find out it was a miss for me. And I'm really happy to see so much LOTR artwork featured this week :) I'm not a particularly big fan, but one of the cable networks has been airing all of them back-to-back recently and it's been nice to drop in and watch bits and pieces :)

    1. I love the art festival, used to go every year, but didn't make it this time. :( Still I feel so bad for the organizers of that TX festival- that would be awful!

Sky in the Deep... *sigh* lol. I liked it but it took me forever to get into- it seemed so cliched at first, so vaguely Vikng-esque but with no real world connection, that I was thinking it was going to be a dud. It did turn around for me but it wasn't quite what I was expecting.

Glad you liked the LoTR art. I'm more a book fan than a fan of the movies, but there are certain sequences of the movies that were done well, I thought.
