Snow! And lots of it. It's totally a winter wonderland over here- everything is white and the trees are covered. It's actually beautiful if you don't have to go out in it. Cold too. We're supposed to get into the negative wind chills over the weekend. Just in time for New Year's!! I don't have any real plans for the new year other than maybe watching movies and relaxing? After a very hectic Christmas season that is sounding good to me right now.  Are you doing anything fun for the new year?

I finished the Hunger Games last week (thanks Shannon!!!) and loved it. And I binged Travelers S2 this week. I'm loving that show, and S2 has been fantastic.

Last week I re- reviewed The Girls in the Garden. This week I'll be taking a look at Star Man's Son, an older SF book, just in time for the start of Vintage SciFi Month. All through January I'll be reviewing a mix of new and older SF- seems like a fun way to start the year.

  1. I will also be having a relaxing New Year's Eve at home, which I'm ok with. I will likely just hang out on Twitter/GR and start a new book at midnight lol. I've rarely ever done anything exciting for New Year's. Good luck with all your snow!

    1. Yeah it sounds relaxing! I can't wait to do ... nothing lol. Starting a new book at midnight sounds fun- I've heard of people doing that, but never have myself. Your plans sound good to me! :)

  2. No NYE plans here - unless you count staying in a plan. :) My husband and I have a tradition of staying at home, having a inner of appetizers, and watching movies. Love the Gremlins clips. I remember seeing that one at the theater when it released and immediately wishing I had a Gizmo of my own. :)

    1. That sounds like a good plan to me. I'm staying in too. :) That sounds like a wonderful tradition. And Gremlins is great.

  3. I loved the Hunger Games trilogy and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've still to watch the films which need to be a priority this winter. It's cold here today after a second day of snow but it looks like it's thawing now.

    1. I really liked The Hunger Games, and it's another series that I wouldn't have read if not for blogger friends! I'm kinda tempted to watch the movies again now, having read the book.

  4. We had a pretty hectic Christmas as well. I'm hoping for a very low-key New Years. With how cold it's been, we may just stay in :)

    1. Yeah Christmas is awesome but it can also be exhausting! I'm good with a low key NY this year. Hope you have a great one- Happy New Years!!

  7. I want snow! But just for half a day or so so I don't have to actually try to get somewhere😉 I too plan on staying in and reading or watching movies. Boring but cozy! Happy New Year Greg!

  8. The Traveler's is on my evergrowing Netflix list. It's so bad that I end up having to delete something to add something else.(lol) Send all that snow here, Greg, and have a kid shovel it for you. Starting Sunday we'll be cold but no plans for any of the white stuff. I have a rule about New Year's Eve, and that is I stay in the house, safe.(lol) For the past 10 years I've been bringing in the New Year with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin, but since CNN fired her, I'll be starting a new tradition with Anderson and Andy Cohen with a little Ryan Seacrest thrown in. Hugs...and Happy New Year to you and your family! RO

    1. Travelers is really good. And I would love to send some snow, although it's the heavy stuff so yeah a little goes a long way. :) And I wouldn't wish the slippery roads on anyone.

I like your plan. To be honest I've never been huge on going out for NY either, sometimes I like to but this year is definitely stay in one. I liked Kathy Griffin, I know she got in some trouble but I never heard the details, but anyway have a super New Year!!!

  10. It has been below zero here in Iowa for the last few days and it snowed about 4 inches yesterday. I love having an excuse to stay inside in my pjs all day watching tv and reading! No guilt that way lol. Have a great new year.

  12. I’ve never read the Hunger Games Maybe that’s what I should be doing now! At home reading HG! Because Snow! Yup! I’m sitting at the hair salin with my head under one of those loud helmet like thingie looking out the window wondering how I’m going to get to my car without ruining my hair!!! 😩 I do like winter wonderlands though once I’m safely tucked at home 😊 so watching movies and relaxing sounds awesome to me . I’m jealous! I’ll have to close my book and get dress for a house party Happy New Year Greg!

  13. Feeling cold on my end although no snow to prettify the place. I must try Travelers. Happy reading.

  14. I'm having a quiet new year with my friend. I hope you have a lovely, quiet new year's eve too. The best way to be! :-)

  15. It snowed here too, which I didn't really care for! I wanted to go shopping but didn't go very far because some roads weren't great. I'm glad you liked The Hunger Games. Happy New Year, Greg!

  16. I HATE cold. I am okay until it gets into the single digits. It's hard to keep an 117 year old house warm - but we keep trying. I've been watching some new series and seeing what I like. I also LOVED A Mountain Between Us but wouldn't you know - there was snow and cold everywhere in it too. Have a wonderful New Year's.

  17. It's getting really cold here, and we had a dusting of snow, but that's it. Love the Gremlins video! I always forget that it really is a Christmas movie!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ugh, is it spring yet? I feel like I have been whining about the cold and snow for months (I mean, I have been hah) and there's still so much more! But it IS a lot colder than usual, right? I do NOT remember this much cold and snow this early in a looong time. Perhaps Mother Nature will get it out of her system and spring can come early? Ah, a girl can dream!

So glad you liked THG, of course! I am like, halfway through Catching Fire right now, right before the Quell announcement. The Agatha Christie cover is making me covet a trip to the Caribbean, even if it is complete with murder ;) Even the pictures of the aliens in the desert look appealing at this point. I have never heard of Vintage Sci-Fi week, but that sounds fun, and quite unique! Hope that your New Year's is VERY relaxing :D

  19. I laughed when I saw the Gremlins videos. I literally watched both Gremlins and Gremlins 2 last night! The first one is one of my favorite Christmas movies, no joke! Hard to believe I used to be so scared of it when I was a kid.

  20. Oh my word! I hope you aren't having to venture out into the white stuff - staying cosy at home and watching the seasonal films sounds like a solid plan. Glad you enjoyed The Hunger Games - I happen to think they have lots of pertinent things to say about our modern culture. In the meantime, I wish you a happy, healthy 2018, Greg:). https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/12/31/sunday-post-31st-december-2017/

  21. I hope you stay safe and warm, Greg. I can't believe how cold it's gotten in parts of the country. Our nights are very chilly here. Down in the low 30's. The days are actually quite pleasant though. My daughter envies you your snow. :-) We're planning a quiet New Year's Eve/Day too. I hope you have a Happy New Year, Greg. Happy Reading!

  22. So jealous of your snow! We got a bit of wet snow on Friday but nothing that would stick. Nothing on Christmas either. The fireworks here are terrible already. I hope you have a great end of the year and a happy new year.

  23. We don't have any plans for tonight either. I usually go to bed early on NYE lol unless our delightful neighbours are playing loud music *sigh* I hope you enjoy your evening of movies :)

  27. The snow is always so pretty from my window, not so much when I have to take the doxie out in it though. He's so low to the ground he doesn't like it either. Lol... Oooh, what is What Alice Knew about? I must know! Have a great week and Happy New Year! 🎉

  29. It's been FOREVER since I've seen Gremlins. Those clips were fun. Fact: I saw it when it was first released in the theaters. You have a good attitude about snow. I cannot say I share your enthusiasm though. We had a little dusting yesterday and I was scowling. Keep warm and happy new year!

  30. It's 22 degrees here right now and I'm not happy about it. I have no coat that can even come close to standing up to that. I'm looking forward to your review of What Alice Knew. It looks so good! And of course I'm always thrilled to see an Agatha Christie cover. Have a great week and a Happy New Year!

  31. I just added What Alice Knew to my list.

Watching movies and relaxing sounds like my favorite way to spend the New Year. Enjoy!

We're in the 30s, which is pretty normal here...and we don't get snow. Although there have been some years (in the 40 that I've lived here) when we had a bit of snow that melted by day's end. We're only an hour from the mountains...and a couple of hours from skiing country, so we can have plenty if we want. LOL

Happy New Year, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  32. It is too cold here as well. We are suppose to have negative lows tomorrow (not even counting the wind chill!). I do not plan on leaving until I have to go back to work on Wednesday!
    Happy new year!!

  33. I am not ready for all of this winter stuff! I am definitely not ready for snow. Yuck. It is terribly cold here so we are staying indoors as much as possible. I hope you enjoy your quiet New Years celebration.

  39. I don't have any New Years plans either, and I'm thrilled! Staying in sounds like heaven to me. Hope you have a relaxing time in too, and keep warm!

Love the Agatha Christie cover. And I just watched Rogue One on Friday night for the first time. It was good but I didn't care for the way it ended, but I kinda of expected it. :/

  46. We are homebodies today which is fine with me as I don't have to get dolled up. What was your favorite Christmas gift this year? Do you have many Star Wars toys? I was thinking of getting my brother this Revell AT-AT but I didn't know if he'd think it a good gift so I got him a dry-fit tee since he's all about the gym nowadays. However I talked to him about the AT-AT and he seem interested, said he could bring it to work. So for his February birthday I'm going to order him one. :*:.。.:*(´∀`*)Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!*:.。.:*:

  53. This cold is crazy! We are the new arctic. We had the same negative temps and wind chill for New Years and spent the night watching Longmire. Lol.

I have never seen Gremlins! Add that to my list of 80s movies I never saw - The Goonies, ET, to name a few..I am not sure what I was doing back then!

  54. Thanks for sharing, Greg. I just got back from a mini trip with hubby, with me spending most of the time reading while not exploring the places. It was great.
I hope you have a wonderful 2018 and an awesome reading year this year. ❤️😁
