This week is a Father's Day Freebie. I decided to do what I did for Mother's Day and divide this up between good dads and bad dads. It was kinda fun to think of these. Let's see what we got...
Her dad was way cool and they had a great relationship.
Her dad is a Special Forces guy. He comes to help her at one point along with some buddies.
One of the dads in this one is mentally ill and the protagonist writes him.
Dad in this one is just getting to know Lina, who just found that ... he's her dad. As you can imagine this one's cute.
So I was running out of good dads... Ned Stark- a good guy. Not the canniest player of the game, but an honorable man and a good dad.
Gemma's dad is an ass from what we know.
This guy's drunk most of the time.
This dad's a doofus. A nineteen year old is coming on all strong to his sixteen year old and he goes with it? Dipshit.
For every good dad in this series there are like 1,078,000 bad ones. Exhibit A: Tywin Lannister.
Exhibit B: Balon Greyjoy.
Lost Girl and The Girls in the Garden sound really good... *bustles off to goodreads* A great list!ReplyDelete
Both books were really good!Delete
Yep, no good dads in Martin's series. And don't forget the mad King!ReplyDelete
So true. And yes he was the worst!!Delete
LOL yes GOT has some bad dadsReplyDelete
A Song of Ice and Fire definitely has plenty of choices for dads, both good (Ned) and bad (Tywin, Balon, Stannis...) I hope to read Love and Gelate and Girl Out of Water soon, glad to hear they have some good dads :)ReplyDelete
Love and Gelato was good, and Girl Out Of Water wasn't bad. :)Delete
Totally agree with your GoT choices. Tywin treats Tyrion like filth, Balon Greyjoy is a dreadful father...agree that Ned Stark did his best for all his children including Jon. I'd rate him as a good dad.ReplyDelete
Ha ha i know right? The dad in Got (not Ned) are tERRIBLE.Delete
Oooooh, a few very interesting sounding books *opens Goodreads* and totally agree on the GOT front!ReplyDelete
Great list! Totally agree with you on the Game of Thrones dads. Stannis is pretty awful too.ReplyDelete
Stannis is terrible on the show. He's not so bad in the books, but maybe that's coming??Delete
So many bad fathers, so little time. Thank God, I can deal with angst! I am going to be looking into The Girls in the Garden.ReplyDelete
Love that line! And The Girls in the Garden was pretty good.Delete
Great list, the good dads sound sweet and I couldn't agree more about GoT, so many bad fathers..ReplyDelete
Ugh, so many.Delete
Great list, I read the Girls In The Garden.ReplyDelete
I liked it!Delete
Great list! I've seen Ned Stark on a couple of lists today. I agree he deserves a place as on the list as a good dad. Here is my Top Ten TuesdayReplyDelete
He's like one of the few good dads I could think of from Game of thrones!Delete
Hahaha, so true about Game of Thrones - 1 good dad for every 100 bad dads.ReplyDelete
The Dad in I Found You definitely sounds like a doofus. I don't see that playing very well in real life. Love your Game of Thrones mentions. I'm really surprised to see there is even one good dad in the series!ReplyDelete
Oh he was not good. I was like really?? Talk about clueless. And I know even one dad is amazing for that show!Delete
I need to check out a few of these books. :) Great list.ReplyDelete
Ha! I loved your bad dad's list and explanations lolReplyDelete
I saw another list like this and my most recent "good dad" read was the dad in Alex, Approximately by Jen Bennett. He was a single dad that gave his daughter the freedom to figure things out but came down on her when needed. A nice mix.
For What It's Worth
I've heard about Alex Approximately.Delete
I like the mix of good and bad. Honestly, I don't know how people remember! I feel like most parents in books are more on the bad side of things too. hahaReplyDelete
It was fun. And I agree, the bad ones came to mind much more readily! Kinda scared how few good dads I could think of in YA!Delete
Ha you made me laugh with the father from I Found You but totally agree!ReplyDelete
Oh my gosh was he bad or what???Delete
Thanks for your post!! I haven't read any of the books on your list, so have new books to check out.ReplyDelete
Here's a link to my TTT post for the week:
Ooh I want to read Girl Out Of Water! :-) It looks fab.ReplyDelete
Yeah it's pretty good. :)Delete
I did not know that Girl Out of Water had such a great dad. I can't wait to read that one!ReplyDelete
He really is, they have such a good relationship in that book.Delete
Oooh...I see some books off my to be read list on here! I need to move some of these up.ReplyDelete
Thanks for sharing!
I hope you enjoy them!Delete
Lol! All the bad dads from GoT. So true.ReplyDelete
So many dads in A Song of Ice and Fire! I definitely agree with your comment about Ned Stark. His interactions with Arya pleased me a lot, the moment when he gave Arya her sword warmed my heart!ReplyDelete
He and arya were great. I think he understood her more? Him and Jon and Arya would have made a nice team!Delete
GoT does feature the full gamut of different kinds of dads. Ned Stark was definitely in the minority in that series as a good, honorable dad. Still remember one of my favorite quotes from him from the first season of the show - "War was easier than daughters"...makes me wanna laugh and cry!ReplyDelete
~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
It sure does. Yeah I miss Ned... such a different sries if he had survived!Delete
I love how you included Ned Stark - one of my favorites from book one. :)ReplyDelete
Totally agree with Love & Gelato dad and Replica dad. Talk about opposites haha. I am laughing at the dad in I Found You. He sounds REALLY dumb. I can imagine lots of terrible GoT dads- at least there was one decent guy, guess that's a win! Great list! I was going to do this but then all the dads seemed to blend together in my mind and I got bored and gave up.ReplyDelete
Awesome list, Greg. I haven't read Andre heard almost all of these books. Thanks for putting them on my radar. I'm curious about George Martin's books. :)ReplyDelete
Love these so much!! You have me nodding along big time with the GoT dads as well as the dad in I Found You -- I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that the brother was the only one who realized something was off with the guy! Awesome TTT, Greg!ReplyDelete
Interesting! I haven't read any but I wanted to try the Armstrong oneReplyDelete
I only know the Game of Thrones dads and there seem to be a lot more bad/disturbing ones than good.ReplyDelete
Lots of bad dads to choose from in the GoT series huh?ReplyDelete
yes and yes for the two GoT dad! I love Ed as much as I hate lanister :)ReplyDelete
Balon is THE WORST - perhaps even worse than Tywin. I like how you kind of had to caveat Ned with ...well I was running out of good dads so...lol! Ned is definitely head and shoulders above everybody else in the Westeros world!ReplyDelete
So glad to see Love & Gelato on this list! It's one I've fully intended to read ever since it releases (and I think this author has another book releasing next year, maybe?). Perhaps I'll make it a priority this summer - which would be a perfect season to read this one in.ReplyDelete
Thanks, as always, for visiting Finding Wonderland, Greg. :)
*gasps* I've read SO MANY OF THESE POSTS, and I didn't even realize that nobody mentioned Ned Stark! He's SUCH a great dad, I can't believe people just forgot about him (... well... he did kinda die...) I'd add Davos to the list too, even though he's not really a dad. He kinda was a dad to Shireen though. I'll have to check out the rest of the books - this week's feature definitely left an ache in my chest for good dad figures. :)ReplyDelete

Haha I'm laughing at how bluntly honest you were about the bad dads. I love how you just said, "This guy was drunk most of the time. Oh and this one's an ass." These are typically how my thoughts go as well 😂ReplyDelete
I like the division of good dads and bad dads you did. XD Love & Gelato sounds really good; I love stories where kids and their dads finally meet/get to know each other. I'll have to add it to my TBR.ReplyDelete
Ned Stark was a good dad. At least, he tried his best. :DReplyDelete
I keep forgetting to look at The Girls In the Garden.I should run over to Goodreads right now. :)ReplyDelete
