Why Eight Hundred Grapes? That's about how many it takes to make a bottle of wine. This was a great story and I like this simple but effective cover.

How Scary Is Too Scary?
So October is the month for all things scary. My question is- how scary is too scary? Some people like to go scary this time of year, and other don't- I guess it's part of that seasonal readers thing. Do you read seasonally, and if so what does that mean for fall/ autumn/ Halloween time? I do read somewhat seasonally, and I think it has to do with blogging. Before I blogged I just read whenever, but now I read so much and am so much more aware of new releases and publishing schedules, that I find myself gravitating towards reads of the season. So I'm reading darker stuff, mysteries, that kind of thing in the fall- psychological thrillers are big- and after Halloween I'll probably start looking at some holiday themed stuff in addition to my usual fare.
When it comes to scary reads I tend to like thrillers, mysteries and SF/F with a darker theme or a paranormal element. I'm new to urban fantasy but vampires, werewolves and various other night creatures are a natural this time of year. I'm not usually into horror or the really dark stuff- with some exceptions. I do like something spine tingling or mysterious, with creatures stalking through a snowstorm or a gateway opening to another world allowing some cosmic terror through. I'm not really into gory/ slasher stuff.
So... how about you? Do you like horror or scary stuff this time of year? And if so do you like the psychological variety or the more explicit stuff? I'd love to hear what you think.
What are some of your favorites?
Top Ten Halloween Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.
This week's topic is a Halloween themed freebie. I had a hard time deciding what to do for this so I split the difference and went with both music and books. I like music that sets a certain tone or mood- the days get shorter, the leaves turn and fall, and the wind howls through the trees. Perhaps our mood changes with the seasons? So here are some song choices to set a certain mood.
SONGS
This is an instrumental track but I love how atmospheric it is.
Same here- these two songs go well together and are great at setting a mood.
Say hello to the night
Lost in the shadows
Say hello to the night
Lost in the loneliness
Lost in the shadows
Say hello to the night
Lost in the loneliness
Screams break the silence
Waking from the dead of night

Cover Characteristics Airships
Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.
This week's pick- Airships
Who doesn't love airships? Majestic, sailing serenely through the air, airships are a staple of science fantasy and steampunk as well. So with Cover Characteristics officially on hiatus, I go rogue again with airships. Do you have an airship read that you enjoy?

This one's not bad but not my favorite.
This isn't how I picture fliers on Mars from the books but it's an interesting cover. Not my preferred cover for these books.

An airship, a cool costume, and goggles.
This one looks zany and just fun.
More goggles.
This may be my second favorite (after The Fog Diver) just because there is so much stuff going on here. I feel like this cover is telling a story by itself!

Sunday Post #165
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
This week has been hit or miss- started out nice (and warm) but then around midweek it cooled way off. The trees are really starting to turn now and we've got yellows and golds, even reds. The cold really can speed up the process, sometimes you can tell the difference from one day to the next. As October winds down I find that I haven't been reading many scary books- I'm still getting through books I hoped to read in Sept. - so I hope everyone else is getting their scary on.
It's been busy on the blog and I've been splitting my time between books and Netflix- yes the Netflix ban is over! A friend of mine from Chicago came in this past weekend and we got to catch up- that was nice. Other than that not too much happening. I didn't have a lot of extra stuff for this week but then Pinterest happened- how many boards can you have up at one time?- and I discovered a bunch of cool stuff, so I shared some of it below.

This week I reviewed Replica and am reading The Wanderers- hoping to have that review up next week. My discussion post on Wednesday will be- How Scary Is Too Scary- so I hope you can come by and share your thoughts on scary reads.

Song of the day...
I'm listening to Balligomingo again and discovered some of their remixes- this one is a bit more upbeat than some of their stuff, almost like a techno dance track, but I kinda like it.
