Sunday Post #468

 




So the big question last week was- should I review more pulp stuff here? The overwhelming answer was... yes. There seems to be some definite interest. You'll be happy to know I did some digging and my first pulp review is going to be a book that might be familiar to those of you who have been around a bit. I've used this cover for Bookcover Spotlights and pulp showcases. Does this just look wild or what? And... it's available. Amazon actually carries it and there's a company that is reprinting some of these. So here are the first two that I'll be doing.  


I was talking with someone this week about a dream post I did a while back. I don't remember the exact conversation- I think it was a comment?- anyway the post is here. Have you ever posted about dreams? I was thinking it might be fun to keep a dream journal (like someone who commented on the post suggested) or maybe even do more posts like that- or even turn a dream into a story. What do you think?   

The overwhelming consensus seems to be that family and friends are NOT the target audience for book bloggers. I read through all the comments from last week's Sunday Post and it seems almost universal that people say their family either does not read their blog or does so sparingly... and that seems to be okay! I can relate, because mine is the same. Several people mentioned that they actually prefer it this way, since their blog represents "me" time or an interest that they prefer to keep separated from real life. Book bloggers are apparently the main audience for other book bloggers- it is like we're a tribe... 

Lastly, I reviewed a book this week (!!!) and it gave me Point Break vibes...

 Also lastly, I had to show this. It's a Tolkien themed restaurant that used to be in East Lansing and I 💓 the menu. Which sandwich would you pick?

    Dream journals are fun-- I've started documenting my dreams to use them in my stories. Because I've had several nightmares inspire stories. :)

    I think I'd have to go for the Fellowship of Cheeses seeing that most of the other sandwiches are not vegetarian. :) Looking forward to your pulp fiction posts!

    A dream journal or periodic post would be great. I am one who has had a history of bizarre dreams - less so these last few months when I have not been sleeping well. They generally have similar themes but are quite different. I think I posted about one or two in the past but may not have labeled it as it might have been in a multi topic post. I love that Tolkien themed sandwich menu - how cool.menu

    OH YES, more pulp fiction! Yes, I have had some dreams out there..lately, about dead cats and other forgotten things..and the library moving to the old mall where the Westerns are in the Old pipe and tobacco place.
    Lovely sandwiches! Although, I'm going to Jimmy Johns tonight. And I may or may not see the neighbor boy there..which leads to another dream. I dreamed the girl (Actually, he did this, he would sit on my back bumper just waiting for her to get home from school) who lived across the street and bought the house where the neighbor kid lived so they could be together..there might be a story yet!

    Last but not least... Thanks for your mashup..actually, its Harry Styles' Boyfriends...which has the melody of an old cowboy song.

    Point Break vibes, well then. Love that movie. I would never be able to write about my dreams because I either don't dream or don't remember them. You know, you share them, you have to analyze them too. Some of that dream theory stuff is interesting.

    I have always had very vivid dreams, that are usually adventurous and positive. I rarely have a nightmare. I've thought about dream journaling, but can never remember in the mornings to do it.

    I'm excited for your reviews, especially the Dead in Bed. Good luck with the books. I have a feeling the writing isn't going to be the best.

    I'd read your dream journal. It sounds interesting. I've never posted anything about my dreams because I usually don't remember them. When I do, they're usually stress nightmares that only I'd understand.

    Yes, that book definitely had Point Break vibes. :D

    Peregrin's Pleasure! With regards to my taste preferences, that's probably what I would choose from the menu, but the other names of the sandwiches on there are so creative, I love them!

    I'm sad that I usually don't remember my dreams, so I wouldn't be able to write them down. Everyone else in my family has vivid dreams, it's just not fair, lol.

    Citadel's cover reminds me of Stranger Things S.1 LOL.

    That dream was a whole story! Plus the part where you were basically acting out your dream in the end 😂. I had the same idea once - to post my funniest dreams on my blog - but...while I used to have vivid ones that I remembered when I woke up, it hasn't happened in a while now. Feel free to post your though! 😉

    Haha, we are! We should all get matching tattoos or something...

    I love how some of those sandwiches don't have names...more like whole sentences 😂. I suppose people who order them go with the numbers...

    My dreams are so vivid and strange. I've often thought about writing them up then just don't 😂

    I am completely fine with my family not reading my stuff. I actually prefer it that they don't, however I have made the one exception when I did a buddy read with my sister and cousin and I included their thoughts on my main review. Whether they then actually read it I don't know - they had written and sent it to me so 😂

    It's rare I remember my dreams past about an hour after waking up, so I rarely post about them or journal them in any way.

    Love that LotR themed restaurant. Several of the sandwiches sound good to me.

    A dream journal sounds like a great idea. From time to time, I think I should keep one--my dreams can be pretty vivid and crazy.

    Count me among those who would prefer friends and family didn't read my blog. My mom discovered my blog a couple years ago and reads it faithfully now--I wish she didn't. LOL I'm more self-conscious now and probably don't share as much as I used to.

    My family, as far as I know, does not read my blog. Probably because no one in my family reads books except my grandmothers, both of whom have died.

    The only one in my family that sometimes reads my blog is my mom... and I like it that way. I made a comment once, at work, about blogging, which was not a good idea. I really don't want any of my colleagues to find my online haven.

    Dead in Bed is such a great cover. From the menu I'd pick A Beef in the Dark, but there are quite a few that also look good. Have a great week!

    In the past, I have done posts about dreams. I even made a separate page for those posts. It has been a while, though. Time to resume them?

    Wow, that's quite a menu with a very cool theme! Since I don't eat a lot of meat when I eat out it's an easy choice for me. I'd order "a fellowship of cheeses". I like the song you shared too. Have a great week! :-)

    That's so cool you can get those books from Amazon! I just looked one up and added it to my wishlist so I can look at the others and grab myself one.

    Also, I would choose A Fellowship of Cheeses. That is such a cool theme to have at a restaurant! Are you planning to watch the new Lord of Rings show thing on Prime? I hope to this weekend.

    I'll have a On Bagshot sandwich please! 😅 When I visit my brother we used to go to The Hobbit pub near him, where they had cocktails themed on Tolkien's characters. Take care, happy reading and I look forward to more pulp fiction content. 😊

    I'm fine with my family not reading my blog. They really aren't into most of the things that I post anyway.

    Keeping a dream journal and posting about it on the blog might be interesting but I've had nightmares since I was 9 years old and most nights I still do. Not sure my crazy gory nightmares would make for good blog fodder. lol

    I started a sort of dream blog at one point when I was over on Blogspot. but I haven't kept up with it. I'm very interested to read about that second pulp novel, Citadel of the Green Death. The cover makes me think of Little Shop of Horror, the original black and white movie! Have a great week!

    I'd agree with your findings regarding the audience for bloggers - while Himself (who is a pearl beyong price...) does read it, it's mainly to spot typos. As for the rest of the family - nope. They don't read my blog - they don't read my books, either:)). Mum once told me that it's a real shame I don't 'write proper books - the type I'd like to read...'. As you can guess, she isn't a fan of fantasy or sci fi:)). I hope you have a great week, Greg.

    I'm looking forward to your pulp book reviews. The used bookshop I visited last week has a vintage pulp selection.
    That LOTR restaurant sounds amazing! I think I'd order a beef in the dark. I used to keep a dream journal and it was interesting reading it later on. Enjoy your books this week!

    That first pulp fiction cover for some reason reminds me of Marilyn Monroe. Dream journalling is interesting - not sure I'd blog about it unless you really want others to help you to know what is going on in your unconscious!!

    There are lots of books out there on "lucid dreaming" i.e. you are aware that you are dreaming while you are dreaming and you can use that to get some good solutions to waking life problems... Er... It has happened a [very] few times to me, those are the only dreams I remember and they did help. So definitely on board with the dream journal.

    And that menu is fantastic! I couldn't pick just one but will go with "A fellowship of cheeses". :)

    I always have the most bizarre and vivid dreams- I often think of turning some of them into stories! A journal would be a good way of keeping track, though Idk if I would want to like, wake myself up that much?

    I want the Peregrin's Pleasure, though the Old Took one sounds good too. Honestly, I high key would want to order "Old Fatty Lumpkin" for the name alone.

    I think you're gonna have fun reading and reviewing pulp books! I used to write down all my dreams growing up because I've always had such weird ones, but now I don't bother. I sleep badly now and remember too many dreams and don't want to encourage my body to do more of that lol. I just tweet about any that are especially interesting or funny.

    My sister will read my blog from time to time, but idk, I find it a bit cringey when she does! I'm a different person I think within my blog and in real life. I would say I'm more carefree and "geeky" on the blog, so I find the separation of blog life and real life important.
