This episode I am looking at prehistoric settings on book covers. Last week I did a similar theme and rather than use all of those again I tried to use some different ones- plus this is a rework of an old post. Time to delve into worlds of yore and the mists of prehistory- I've always loved the lost world trope.
Frazetta doing what he does best- painting a semi nude person locked in battle with the forces of nature. His art always had a certain vibrancy
Oh, these to have some great book covers. I love the artist you mentioned in the Burroughs' bookcovers. Awesome post!

Oh, and one more thing
These are awesome! I can't imagine actually being around a dinosaur!
ReplyDeleteLove the old school covers!
ReplyDeleteI guess in prehistoric times, everyone wears very little clothing. I like that the covers have people in action rather just standing around like a model.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
They're all very cool covers, I have to say I really like them all. Especially the cover for Savage Pellucidar.

I am trying to think if I've read anything that is prehistoric? Nope, I simply can't think of anything.... But the covers are amazingly cool yes!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I trust tried to add my blog link, but blogger didn't want to allow me. What's up with them now again...
The cover for The Land That Time Forgot is awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteWhilst some of the covers may look a little dated, the actual artwork involved is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteInteresting covers.
ReplyDeleteI love the Crichton cover.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I love these covers, they are so fun. I really enjoy the ones for Land of Terror and The Land That Time Forgot!
ReplyDeleteLots of semi-nude people. I think my favorite is The Land That Time Forgot.
ReplyDeleteJurassic Park caught my eye. We just visited a museum with lots of dino skeletons. We liked it so much, we had to come home and watch the original Jurassic Park for the umpteenth time. It never gets old!
ReplyDeleteSon geniales las portadas. No he leído ninguno de esos libros. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThese are great, Greg. They remind me of paperbacks my brother had when we were young.
ReplyDeleteThese are all amazing, but the Pelucidar ones stick in my head and I couldn't even tell you why exactly! There's just something about them!
ReplyDeleteThe Jurassic Park cover is so iconic.
ReplyDeleteI like the Sky People cover the best. :)
ReplyDeleteJurassic Park is the only one that I really know.
ReplyDeleteI feel like ma'am would have worn some clothes- I mean, she's going to get some sort of chafing wandering around like that! I was trying to think of some prehistoric covers, but all I could come up with was that UKYA dino series (you know the one- I think you read all of them?) which wasn't actually prehistoric, and Ivory and Bone but those covers were kind of meh, yeah?
ReplyDeleteThose are cool covers. The artwork is very iconic of the time. I really love the simplicity of the Jurassic Park cover too.
ReplyDeleteI love wooly mammoths. 😍
ReplyDeleteNothing can ever top Jurassic Park!
ReplyDeleteOoh nice covers. Lol to your comment about the first one. Lots of semi naked people in this post, but nice art on those first two especially. That is a bit odd to have a manta ray shooting a laser if that's not in the story, haha.
ReplyDeleteThese covers are all so interesting. Jurassic Park is my favourite! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSome of these are so good! You don't see covers like that anymore. It's interesting to see the cover trends throughout the years.
