Sunday Post #436

Hello friends and welcome to the weekend. I did mostly watching and not so much reading this past week, but I did read some. Thanks to Karen for sending me a book. I have a treat this week- did anyone catch Boba Fett? This feels like a different Boba Fett by the way, but whatevs. Anyway there is a certain scene in A New Hope that was not included- Camie and Fixer were cut from the movie but it's, you know, out there on the Internet- and episode 2 of Boba Fett had them at Tosche Station.

Okay, so I have a question. I should do this as a discussion post but I wanted to ask. What would your preferred afterlife be? I know, where is this question coming from? Let's just say I was reading some stuff and it got me thinking- do you ever encounter a world that you think- that would be an amazing afterlife? It could even be some awesome art. Most of us who are religious obviously come with a predesigned afterlife or a idea of what's to come- but if you could design your own- what would you ?

  1. Greg, Interesting question about "afterlife", I just finished a new rather interesting book called, "After; Bruce Greyson (about near death experiences--no review yet).

Even though I was raised Catholic, I don't believe in any kind of afterlife but, if there was I'd love to comeback as someone's well-loved, well-fed, indoor house cat- with 9 more lives:)

  3. What an interesting question. I've never really thought about it since I'm not a religious person. My sister always tells me she wants to come back in life as one of my dogs. That wouldn't be too bad!

  4. Interesting question. We aren't hugely religious and we have running jokes about where we will all end up. I'm not sure what I would want my afterlife to be like. There are people I would desperately love to see again but I just can't get my head around anything specific. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  5. Mmm, design our own afterlife. Well, it would probably be something bookish like a huge library, lots of bookish people, I can't deny that the odd glass of wine might be nice to accompany all that reading - probably a lot of lounging around chatting about characters and plots. And cake. It couldn't hurt to have chocolate too.

  6. Getting deep there, Greg. I am exhausted by this life, so I don't want to come back. I do adore the idea of being reunited with your loved ones though.

  7. I want to rule an animal kingdom in the afterlife. I want to ride and snuggle all the animals.

Those last two pictures remind me of Howl's Moving Castle.

I agree about Boba Fett. He seems changed, but I'm hoping the flashbacks shed more light on this. I don't understand his motives for leaving bounty hunting behind to become a crime lord. I also don't understand why he was so loyal to the sand people.

  8. Asking some tough questions! I don't necessarily believe in an afterlife, I hope there is reincarnation. But if there was somewhere Id prefer to be after death, I think it'd be somewhere quiet like the mountains.

  9. I've been watching Boba Fett but I'm not caught up on the most recent episode yet. I like it so far. Feels very similar to The Mandalorian, essentially a space western.

As for your philosophical question, I'm an agnostic but I like the idea of an afterlife. I would want to be reunited with my family in some sort of magical paradise, where pain and suffering were non-existent and everyone had a spiritual body that couldn't age or become ill. Narnia would be the ideal setting for me, with talking animals and mythological creatures (minus the White Witch, of course) and beautiful landscapes to explore.

As Kami said, I thought of Howl's Moving Castle straight away when I saw the last two pictures.

  10. I don't have enough time to watch again, but I read regularly.

  11. Very deep question! As a religious person I have never given it much thought because I know where I am going. I don't have the thought capacity right now to even try to think of something different, LOL. Let's just say better than this world, no sickness or pain. Have a great weekend!

  12. I think the perfect fantasy afterlife would be being able to jump from one fiction world to the next and getting to visit all those amazing fictional places I've only read about in books.

  13. I think mine will be exactly what my pastor gently reminded me when I was lamenting the fact that I have an endless TBR that I will never be able to read. He just kind of smiled at me like I am a dumdum and said, "Sarah, what do you think Heaven will be for you?" Luckily I love my pastor a whole lot, and he loves me too, and I didn't feel dumb for forgetting that DUH. OF COURSE that's what my slice of Heaven will be.

  14. Good question! I am not sure about afterlife but always said when I die, will probably get donated to medical science! Been saying that since I was a teenager and now nearly 42!

  15. Fun to see that deleted scene. I'm not about an afterlife - whether one exists or not. But it's nice to think there could be some peaceful place to see loved ones again. Just don't actually believe that exists.

  16. I imagine Afterlife as a life with lots of nature, not a destroyed world like our, where everyone would be wise and respectful LOL

  17. Coming from a very religious (Hindu) family, (even though I am not quite there), I have about 7 lives before we exhaust our chances and get to the afterlife. Assuming this is my first one. No way to find out which birth this is. Quite hilarious right? Well, that is religion for you!

    Interesting question. And stay safe!

  18. I have so many disney series i need to watch and Boba Fett is up there on the list. I'm waiting for it to all be out before starting though as I am terrible at weekly watches. As for the afterlife, I honestly don't know. I like to think you get a break and get to see everyone you lost, including pets. But I kind of want it to be something you could hop in and out of and it's not just forever, you know? because forever is a long time.

  19. Cool question. I don't think I want to be reincarnated and come back here! I think I'd want an afterlife that's full of good food, good books, and dramatic landscapes. I'd just go exploring every day.

  20. After Life Option #1 - If our spirit keeps coming back in the version of a brand new baby in a brand new life, could I please evolve into someone with a lot of talent and ambition? I didn't get either of those in this lifetime. For example, we started watching Season 2 of Cheer (Netflix) last night and I'm like "MAN I wish I could be a cheerleader in another life! How fun must it be to be tossed high into the air like that and do spins and flips and stuff." I would be equally happy to be a gymnast, figure skater, or some other spinning, jumping, tumbler. I would also like to have a great talent for art, music, and singing. I would also like to be tall and beautiful but do not care if I'm white, black, Asian, or whatever. Just tall and beautiful with long, perfect hair and skin.

After Life Option 2 - I see some people have no desire to come back so maybe instead of coming back we just end up in some magical perfect spiritual world. In that case I just want to spend my time hiking, reading books, hanging out with ALL the animals, even the wild ones who would not maim or kill me in the afterlife, seeing as we're already dead. Lions, tigers and elephants will just hike the trails with me I guess.

How about yourself? What does your afterlife look like?

  21. After Life Option 3 - I just realized I might come back as a baby BOY. Interesting! Well, ok. If I come back as a baby boy I would like be a very adventurous, accomplished guy who drives race cars and plays sports and hikes and surfs and climbs rocks and skis. And yes I know I could be a male cheerleader or male figure skater but they don't get to be tossed into the air, they have to DO the tossing and that's not as fun. And of course I want to be tall and handsome. ROFL. Nobody wants to come back ugly.

  22. I've been loving Boba Fett, but I haven't seen this week's yet.

  23. I got until second half of the first episode with Boba Fett and then my Disney Plus decided to kick me out of my TV :D
Ideal afterlife: I think it is nice for me to think that there is nothing. But then also living through your favorite moments and all your loved ones are alive and everything is good and then also to be able to live in fictional worlds but you'd have the option to just be in observing mode if you wanted to.

  24. I think of the Far Side comic where people are line up at the gates of heaven and further down there a gate wide open for all the animals to go in.

An after life for me will have animals and love ones. As well as woodlands to explore.

  25. My afterlife would obviously be comfy rooms filled with books and movies, plenty of wine and margaritas, and no suffering, of course.

    Enjoy contemplating it.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  26. I would go for Narnia for an afterlife. With a library. Did you watch The Good Place? Now that made me think about the afterlife a bit more.

Have a good week Greg and I hope you get some more reading in.

  27. I hope that in my afterlife I get to see all my dogs again. I like to think they are at the "Rainbow Bridge" waiting for me. And of course there would be lots of time to read and just relax. Interesting question! Have a good week!

  28. OMG, I read afterlife books all the time, and yet...I don't know. I've never thought of that. I think I would like it to have an arena where to attend concerts from my favourite deceased artists. I'd love it to have castles and fortresses that I could visit. And maybe a few carnival rides!

    Fishing Clouds is so neat!

  29. I don't have a specific idea of afterlife. I guess I view it as a consciousness as a spirit rather than with any kind of physical being.

I have a bunch of streaming and I almost never watch. Mostly I read. But I should watch some of the Star Wars stuff. I saw Danny Trejo is goin to be on Bobba Fett. I'm a fan because I met him because of Sons of Anarchy.

  30. No, I haven't seen Boba Fett. I don't have a Disney+ subscription. One of these days, I'll probably break down and get one, especially with the Willow and Santa Clause series coming soon.

  31. No, Boba Fett for me as we don't have a Disney+ subscription. We have NOW TV and Netflix, and already have way too much to watch! 😅 As for a dream afterlife, I am thinking Rivendell from the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. 😊 Take care and happy reading.

  34. We've been enjoying Boba Fett and the little easter eggs from the Mandalorian are fun to see. The question about an ideal afterlife is an interesting one! I often joke that for me it would include a library full of books. I will have to think on that one! I hope you have a great week!

  35. If I could make my afterlife anything I wanted I think I would have powers like Q in Star Trek. Where I could be anything, go anywhere ect. I would instantly zap myself across the universe and visit other planets and not have to worry about being hurt.

  36. We've been watching Boba Fett, but I have to admit I haven't been paying that close attention to it!

  37. Boba Fett is just eh for me right now. I'm not the biggest SW fan though so a lot of it goes over my head lol It's fine but feels very low stakes though. I did think the latest episode had a very retro, fun vibe like the original movies.

I read a book this week!!! My first for the year and I had started it back in November last year.

The afterlife...hmmm I used to be obsessed with this when I was a kid but now I don't think about it at all. It would definitely include lots of fields of flowers and animals though.

  38. What book was it? Now I am curious! As for your afterlife question... damn, that is a thought provoking one for sure! Umm. I guess ideally just like, being reunited with whoever you loved in this life? With like, being able to do shit you enjoyed, pain-free, loss-free, etc? And the perfect temperature. That's key.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That's a deep and interesting question. I don't really know what I think of the afterlife. I would want to be reunited with loved ones (both human and pets). Beyond that, I can't really think of anything else.

  40. I am religious in terms of church, but not sure about the after life. My dream would be to be with loved ones, and of course it would be a place of love for all. Have a great week viewing and reading Greg.

  41. What an interesting thought - design my own afterlife? I guess I have a little bit of a hard time imagining something that's better than what my Christian worldview says heaven is, but if I could have a DIY afterlife, it would involve books and traveling all over the world with my family (who would miraculously all agree with whatever my ideal travel plans are). :-)

  43. An interesting question about the afterlife. I think I've always wavered between some general "heaven" idea and the idea that those that passed on are just on a different plane, but right next to us. - Melinda @ A Web of Stories

  44. No afterlife. I'd rather live forever in the original paradise conditions the Earth started off in.

I still need to watch The Mandalorian.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My preferred afterlife would be this world with all the bad parts cut out.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If I could design my own afterlife it would be this magical winter wonderland where it is cold and snowing all the time. Something like I read and maybe some faeries and hot vampires! :)

  47. I haven't caught the latest episodes of Boba Fett, I only watched the first episode. As is with most first episodes, I found it a bit boring, but I assume the series will pick up in action.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I would choose something similar to what we already have here--but where people are good stewards of the environment and aren't jerks to each other. And I could meet anyone from anywhen, especially my loved ones.

We haven't started Boba Fett yet. We're still trying to finish Hawkeye. Kate just really irritates me so we haven't been making much progress.

The Cloud Fishing art reminds me a bit of Howl's Moving Castle.

    Enjoy your week!

  49. I haven't caught up with the latest episode of Boba Fett yet but I'm enjoying it. Seems like after the first one you get a bit of filler, but I'm liking the format and how they've decided to reveal the story.

  50. I've really been enjoying watching Boba Fett. I wasn't sure what to expect going in but it's pretty entertaining and I really like Fennec. Hmmm, if I could design my own afterlife, it would be filled with my loved ones, beloved pets I've lost along the way, all of the books I've ever wanted to read, and all of the travels I've ever wanted to take. Oh and no politics, lol.

  51. I am liking Boba much more than the Mandalorian at the moment...weird

Afterlife. No stress, no musts, books adn chocolate and happiness. Warm days

  52. Those are some lovely images -- well, except Dead in Bed cover/ title duo (sheesh!) at any rate. And as for afterlife? The show "The Good Place" takes it up -- if it's eternal, then even utopia will get boring without a purpose? I know some people have talked about "near death experiences" (mostly being in a tunnel going into light, I think) and it does get me curious though... What is out there? In Dumbledore's words, death is the next big adventure.
