The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Another hot week, sunny and warm- it's supposed to cool off this weekend. Summer is hanging on but autumn is almost here. Actually Thursday was the first day of fall. Man that was a quick summer. In other news I got sick this week. Stuff's going around and I caught it somewhere. But other than that it was a good week. I read some stuff and returned to Netflix (my preciousss) so all is good.
Heather at Random Redheaded Ramblings was talking Omnia and her, La La in the Library and I are doing a triple review of it in October. So that should be fun. Omnia was super cheap on Amazon last I checked.
I read Nerve this week and will be reviewing it on Thursday. I also posted my thoughts on The Girl From The Sea here.
This is very well done and worth a look. It's about three stormtroopers right before they go into battle- no explosions, just three guys talking about why they're doing it. Check it out- what do you think?
And I'm listening to
PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:
NEW ARRIVAL/ UPCOMING REVIEWS:
The difference between elves and fairies explained.
These two songs go together very well and play back to back on a compilation I have. It's good mood music for reading, especially dark fantasy.
I'm sorry you've caught a bug, Greg! I hope you'll be back in top shape in no time.ReplyDelete
Fall is arriving here, too, we feel it mostly with the cooler nights which makes it so much better to get a good night's sleep!
Replica is a book I'm oh so very curious about, I can't wait to read your thoughts on that.
Have a wonderful weekend and happy reading.
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
I'm pretty excited about Replica. I read the first three chapters and I was hooked, so it should be good. And thanks! I feel better now, after a rough couple days. :)Delete
It is finally starting to cool down a bit here. Hope you feel better!! Can't wait to see what you think of Replica. I have that to get to soon. Have a great week!ReplyDelete
Glad you're cooling down. I'm liking it although I suspect the temp change contributed to me getting sick. Still... nice to have fall.Delete
Bummer you caught a bug - wouldn't be surprised if it's from the way the weather keeps bouncing around. Hope you're feeling 100% soon.ReplyDelete
I had no idea Nerve was a book - I almost went to the theater to see it last night too! Glad we didn't, because I want to read it first... Assuming you're review is positive. If not, maybe I will skip the read.
Have a great week :)
I totally think it's the weather. When the temps change I sometimes get sick, although it's been a while since I have. And Nerve- I didn't realize it was a book either right away. I wanted to see the movie but don't know if I'll make it.Delete
Sorry you were feeling under the weather. My son woke up with a cough that sounded like a barking seal. He gets it every year at this time. I hope you are feeling better.ReplyDelete
The weather this weekend was AMAZING! Tomorrow is going to cool down a lot and I plan to make some chili to honor the chill.
I might be reading replica next month. Just can't figure out which way to read it.
Have a great week, Greg! Hope you are feeling better!
Yeah if I get sick it's usually in the spring or fall when the weather changes. Enjoy the chili! Sounds yummy. And Replica should be good- I think I'm going to read both at the same time, and alternate chapters. She said it works well that way, although you can read it any way and enjoy it I guess...Delete
Am intrigued by Dead Girls Society. It looks good (and I realise how macabre that sounds!!!)ReplyDelete
It's already getting quite warm here in Australia - high 20C during the day... I'm hoping my new house retains a cool breeze through it as it doesn't have airconditioning.
I'm keen on dead Girls Society, and i know! What a title huh? Nice that you're warming up- seems like we were just talking about summer there/ winter here and now we're heading that way again! I hope your new house gets a nice breeze too!Delete
That fan film was interesting! I enjoyed the video of the people talking about the difference between fairies and elves too. Thanks for sharing.ReplyDelete
Glad you liked them. I thought that fan film was well done too.Delete
Our triple threat review. Heh heh. Thanks for sharing the U2. I loved them until Joshua Tree came out and then they became a little too polished for my liking. It is always wonderful to hear earlier stuff. Thanks, as always, for the art. I am looking forward to your Dead Girls Society review. Have a stellar week wnd that includes being 100% well! :)ReplyDelete
Thanks! I feel a lot better- I was sick as a dog yesterday, felt terrible. Today much better. Can't wait for our triple review- should be fun! And U2- I honestly only like their old stuff- this song and Sunday Bloody Sunday/ New Years Day stuff. Everything after that I hated.Delete
It's been really warm where I am. I don't know where fall is. Actually, I do know. It's in the mountains. LOL! We went on a drive yesterday up to look at all the trees. One of my favorite things to do in the fall.ReplyDelete
I hope you are feeling better, Greg. I was sick a couple weeks ago and it was no fun. Hopefully your weather will cool down soon. We've had great weather as of late, but are expecting it to heat up again. It's supposed to be 101 on Monday. Jakku the First Wave was well done, I agree. Thank you for sharing.ReplyDelete
I hope you have a great week, Greg!
Thank you! I was really sick for a couple days but much better now. And it has been cooling. 101- that's hot! I hope you get some cooler breezes too. :)Delete
Glad you liked the video. I liked it and thought they did a good job showing these regular guys from the Empire's viewpoint.
Sorry you got sick :-/ Feel better soon!ReplyDelete
Re: the pulp cover, who opens a door while searching for danger but then looks the opposite direction? Lol.
I consider elves to be a type of fae, and I consider faeries a different type of fae (even though technically fae and faeries can be used interchangeably, I use fae as the all encompassing term). I don't think faeries generally have wings though. The little creatures with wings, I would call pixies. But really writers can do whatever they want. I just read a book that had elves with wings, so... Lol.
Thanks! I'm feeling a lot better now... and yeah I thought the same thing. Look behind the door!!!Delete
I consider elves as faeries too, or fae creatures I guess would be more precise. And yeah the little ones with wings I would call pixies too, or sprites. I actually consider elves to be shorter and more fae- like than the Tolkien version which is the taller more elegant type, but that's just me. Even though I like Tolkien. But yeah I kinda think those faire patrons were I don't know. I'll be nice.
I generally think faeries or fae (for me) are the encompassing term, and the small flighty ones can then be pixies, sylphs, whatever. But you're right, writers can pretty much do whatever. It's so open to interpretation. :)
I hate getting sick. I've been in denial about it, but I might be coming down with something...scratchy throat and ears are a little achy.ReplyDelete
Have to be well enough to get that flu shot when the flu clinic opens in a couple of weeks.
Enjoy your books...and your Netflix. Are you a Longmire fan?
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Oh that's how it started for me. Scratchy throat... I was miserable for two days! I haven't watched Longmire other than the first episode, which I thought was promising.Delete
Oooo, I spy maps! I love maps, especially maps in books. Or bookish map posters - those are awesome. I hope you enjoy all of your new books!ReplyDelete
Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a fantastic weekend, Greg. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
I love maps too! Espcially in books, but also game maps. And I'd love to have a huge LotR on my wall so I could stare at it all day! lolDelete
Sorry you got sick :( It's definitely the season for it. It seems everyone comes down with something at the end of Summer and at the end of Winter.ReplyDelete
I see you got Replica! So interested to hear what you think of it. And I love the map you posted. There's something about maps. I always love books that have maps in the beginning. Somehow it makes me think that the author has put a lot of time and effort into the world building and I appreciate that a lot.
Hope you have a good week ahead and that you recover quickly!
Here's my Weekly Roundup
Thanks, I definitely think the weather change here had something to do with it. I am looking forward to starting Replica. And I agree about maps. Whenever I read a fantasy I always check first to see if there's a map lol- if there is bonus points. :)Delete
Ugh. Hop you're feeling better soon! Dead Girls Society looks intriguing.ReplyDelete
Thanks. And Dead Girls Society does look intriguing.Delete
Colds are going around here. I hope you are feeling better and getting plenty of rest. Looks like you have some good books to read in the meantime.ReplyDelete
I can't believe fall is here already. Summer always goes by too quickly.
Same here. Ugh. And I'm amazed we're almost into October already!!Delete
I really hope you get some cooler weather soon! I'm hoping our temperatures will dip a little in coming weeks because it has been hot!! I can't wait to see what you think of Replica! I have a copy too but haven't had a chance to read it. Have a great week!ReplyDelete
Here's my Weekly Recap!
We're supposed to cool and with October right around the corner I expect we will. Although I think the temp change already made me sick! I am way looking forward to Replica.Delete
Dead Girl Society has me curious. We cannot decide what season we are in. We go from fall like weather one day to 96 the next. It is crazy. Hope you are feeling betterReplyDelete
I'd be interested to see what you think about Nerve. Are you planning on watching the movie? I have a fascination with adaptations and how they stack up!ReplyDelete
Liselle @ Lunch-Time Librarian
I do want to see the movie! In fact I hope to see it before it goes off, but don't know if I'll make it. I wouldn't even have known about the book if not for the movie...Delete
Sorry to hear you were sick. We're in full fall mode now.. temps in the 30s this morning and freeze warnings issued. Too early! At least I can make a pumpkin pie now though. A Most Extraordinary Pursuit looks good. Have you read anything this else by that author?ReplyDelete
Thank you! 30's? Wow we're not that cool yet although it won't long. And I have not read anything by that author, although I understand she's a pseudonym for Beatriz Williams?Delete
Sorry you got sick Greg. I hope you are feeling much better now. It's still been pretty warm here as well. Today it's rainy though and I hope fall weather is on the way! I can't wait to read your review for Dead Girls Society. I have been really wanting to read that one. I hope you loved it!ReplyDelete
Thanks Erin! It's beautiful here today and breezy... but luckily a bit cooler. I'm looking forward to Dead Girls Society... :)Delete
I swear I can't go a day without Netflix. So much TV I could probably live without but feel I can't. Sorry you haven't been feeling well. Hope you have a healthier week this week.ReplyDelete
I actually took a break from Netflix but now I'm back. I can't stay away long lol.Delete
As always - great weekly wrap up Greg! I didn't do a Sunday Post as I did basically nothing this week, but I did quickly stop by. Hope you will have a good week!ReplyDelete
I've seen lots of people pick up Replica this week. It looks like an exciting read. What are you mainly watching on Netflix?ReplyDelete
I hope you're feeling better! We've all caught a cold as well (luckily nothing too serious) as soon as Kiddo returned to nursery school last week. We've been having beautiful autumn days, they're cool in the morning and lovely in the afternoon.ReplyDelete
I love the pulp cover this week! :)
Oh you got Dead Girl Society!! I want I want...lol. Hope it's good! Your other books look good too!ReplyDelete
It's finally cooling off here a bit, it's kinda nice to have some cooler weather. Sorry to hear you've been sick for a few days, but that's nice it was a good week besides that.ReplyDelete
Oh this map one is really neat and I like how it's part of a much larger map in the second picture! And that artwork Beginning of a New Journey is really pretty with those cliffs. Have a great week!
I haven't been sick like that for awhile. But watch now thatI mention it...lol Glad you are feeling better. ~Aleen, Lampshade ReaderReplyDelete
My whole family spent the last two weeks passing the back-to-school cold around. I think we're all better now.ReplyDelete
Re: elves. vs. fairies--my kids will occasionally either tell me so "facts" about vampires or ask me specific questions about mythical creatures, and I always have to say, "You realize this is all made up, right?" As long as the internal rules of the specific story are obeyed, it's all good.
And I'm so embarrassed--i thought "Nerve" was "Never" until now. I guess I'm not very good at reading in mirrors.
Hope you're feeling better soon. It is getting quite cold here at night, but is still hot in the day.ReplyDelete
I'm sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. Hope things cool off there and you have a great week.ReplyDelete
Nerve has quite the cover. Makes me want to look it up. Sorry you're not feeling well. Feel better soon!ReplyDelete
Same weather here. And yeah...it's that time of the year where the sniffles start creeping up on you. I'm curious about your review of The Girl From the Sea. Hope you feel better soon!ReplyDelete
Sorry you got sick, but I guess good time to lie back and watch a bit of Netflix!ReplyDelete
Sorry you caught a bug - hope you're better now. On the bright side, it's a perfect excuse for reading or watching movies in bed.ReplyDelete
Ick sorry you caught a late summer cold! Hope you are feeling better and can enjoy the fall weather!ReplyDelete
I am bummed we didn't get a chance to get to the RenFest this year. :( Two years in a row now! There is always next year I guess.
I really want to read Replica! Lyra is my niece's name. :)
Sorry I haven't been by. Crazy here. But looks like you've been busy too. :) Thanks for sharing the clips and artwork. :DReplyDelete
Have a great week!
Oh sorry you got sick over last week Greg! I hope you're feeling better :) Fall came full speed over here, we went from like Summer temps to freezing cold with no in between around here! I love U2 so I approve of what you're currently listening to hehe! Oh and that Beginning of a Great Journey art? GORGEOUS ♥ Have a fantastic week^^ xxReplyDelete
Sorry you haven't been feeling well. :-( You still manage to create such wonderful posts. :-)ReplyDelete
sherry @ fundinmental My Sunday Memes
It's been hot here too but we finally got some rain this afternoon and cooler temps are supposed to follow. I hope you feel better soon! Enjoy your week!ReplyDelete
Sorry you're under the weather. Hope you're feeling better. Today was the first cooler day we've had. It was in the low 90s on Friday and I thought I was going to melt. I'm curious about Nerve and hope to read it before the movie comes out on video. Happy reading!ReplyDelete
Sorry you caught that bug! I have been avoiding it, my son sent home three of his employees last week that were sick. The cooler weather is on it's way! Hope you are feeling better and have a great week.ReplyDelete
I'm so sorry to hear you are unwell - get better soon. I'm glad to hear your summer is still hanging on, the warmer weather is good :-). I enjoyed reading your review of The Girl from the Sea. Sounds like a good thriller, will be putting it on my TBR list. I will have to check back to see your review of Nerve too. It looks like an interesting read. Enjoy your Netflix viewing.ReplyDelete
Have a great week! Amanda @ Mrs B's Book Reviews
Pretty much all I know about Nerve is that it's a movie and who stars in it. Beyond that I know nothing - in fact until I saw the movie cover, I didn't realize it was a book.ReplyDelete
Hope you're feeling better.
...and thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.
Autumn has very much arrived here in the UK, well more specifically Wales, where I live. I love autumn, and always enjoy the shift in scenery. Sorry to hear you got ill this past week - I find during seasonal transitions sickness tends to be around a lot more.ReplyDelete
Haha! I find during the colder and darker days, the Netflix vs reading battle intensifies! I hope you enjoy your upcoming reads!
