This week's topic is a Freebie! I'm going with  Books That Would Make A Good Movie.

For all I know this may have been done before, but if it was it was before my time so... yeah. There are so many good books that never make the jump to the big screen, and I got to thinking about which favorites I want to see. So, here we go.

Vitro (Corpus, #2)

Vitro is the story of a girl who goes to an isolated island to find her mother, who is a scientist there, but when she arrives she finds that they are developing humans from test tube embryos- almost like clones- and things of course go badly. I think this would make a good movie, and I highly recommend the book as it is very good. You can check my review here

The Cats of Tanglewood Forest (Newford)

The Cats of Tanglewood Forest  is a whimsical tale, almost a fairy tale, about a girl who lives on the edge of a great forest and is turned into a cat. She of course regains her human form but not until after some thrilling adventures and fun talking animals.

Panic

I liked this story about a high school game played for money, if you survive.

The Blue: A Novel

The Blue would make a good movie, with the exotic locales (South Pacific) and the secrets and lies aboard a yacht full of free spirits... until one of them bites it. This was a good read

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick (Perry & Gobi, #1)

Au Revoir Crazy European Chick is a fun book about Perry, who takes their exchange student to the prom- only to find that she is a Lithuanian assassin with a job in NYC. She drags Perry with her and he'll be lucky to survive the night. This would be a fun comedy/ actioner.

A School for Unusual Girls (Stranje House, #1)

A School for Unusual Girls was an intriguing book, and could make a good movie with the right cast. There are four girls along with Georgie, the main character, and if the casting hit it they could be an awesome ensemble.

Eight Hundred Grapes

Eight Hundred Grapes would be a great comedy/drama about Georgia, who runs back home to her familys Sonoma vineyard after discovering her fiance has been keeping a secret from her. She has to analyze her life and decide what she truly wants- marry the man of her dreams (?) and move to London, or stay and take over the vineyard. Or something else entirely. This was a really good book and I'd love to see it on screen.

Get Even (Don't Get Mad, #1)

Get Even was fun, about four girls who take it upon themselves to mete out some justice to bullies and mean girls and even asshole teachers if necessary. Of course things get complicated, and when people die it gets way out of hand. I sort of thought of Pretty Little Liars here, they'd have to distinguish it in some way, but it could work.

Blackbird (Blackbird, #1)

I would be all over this if they made a movie out of it. Blackbird is about a girl who wakes up on a subway track with no memory of who she is- but there are people after her in a twisted game where people are hunted for sport.

Emilie and the Hollow World (Emilie, #1)

Emilie and the Hollow World would be a tough one to make work, but if they could pull it off it could be good. It's sort of steampunk meets Jules Verne, with airships and a world within a world, a great ocean with isolated islands and a fascinating merfolk race.

Planet of Exile

This one is a personal favorite. Planet of Exile is an older science fiction tale about a long lost colony on a distant planet who are stranded and slowly dying out. It has a lot of similarities to Game of Thrones in that the seasons can last a generation, and there is a threat from the far north. Rolery is a native girl who falls in love with a man from the colony, and their forbidden love must survive the onset of winter and a barbarian invasion from the north. And not just barbarians, but the dreaded snowghouls as well. I love to see this as a movie if done right.

Fangirl

Fangirl would be a great movie with the right cast.

  1. YES TO FANGIRL PARTICULARLY. I think it would be really really awesome, so long as they kept the pace going...because it is rather a slow paced book right?! But the dialogue would transition perfectly. :')
And this reminds me that I want to read Blackbirds and Get Even!
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    1. I want a Fangirl movie! Regan was my favorite character but I liked Levi and cath too. yeah it's a bit slow, a movie would have to do something to spruce it up but could be fun.

      Blackbird is awesome.

  5. I'm thinking the minute my book buying ban drops, I'm going to pick up Lucy Clarke's latest book, lol. The premise does sound perfect for a movie adaptation to be made! Great list :)

  7. Awesome list! I've heard of some of these titles but haven't read any and now I'm scribbling down a few selections to look into. I've read a couple of Lauren Oliver books before and enjoyed them, buddy reads with my eldest. I tried a Charles DeLint book this year (The Onion Girl) and was just so totally confused and out of my element that I gave up-- very deep. Planet of Exile does sound like it would make a great film, good idea!

    1. Thank you Rita. This list was fun to put together. I liked Panic a lot, the only LO I've read. Charles DeLint I've heard is a big urban fantasy guy but this is the only book by him I've read. It's not MG but it has a whimsical, almost fairy tale quality to it- great for kids and good in a different way for adults, I think. A very powerful ending too, at least for me.

  8. I have such a hard time with thinking of books I want made into movies, and so I appreciate you tackling the topic instead of me. I would be interested in seeing all of these books if they were turned into movies from your description of them. I can just see Au Revoir Crazy European Chick being a fun one. And Blackbird would be intense.

    1. Thank you, I think Panic would be a fun movie too. Love the idea- I agree about the book, after reading it I thought it was good not great, but looking back that could be a killer idea for a movie!

  11. Great topic! Most of these books are on my TBR and from what I've heard about them I definitely agree with. Pretty much all of Rowell's books are just begging to be made into a movie. I'm kind of suprised that none have been yet!

    1. I would not be surprised if Hollywood jumps on Rainbow's popularity at some point- like you said, surprised they haven't already. For some reason I'd like to see Eight Hundred Grapes as well, I think that could be good!

  12. I've only read one book on your list, but I'm sure all of these would made great movies. I can just imagine the book community exploding from happiness is Fangirl was ever made into a movie. Nice list!

    1. Wouldn't it though? Everyone would be so excited- I'm not sure I'd want to be the filmmaker as expectations would be very high! :)

  13. I haven't read these, but your descriptions of them really do sound like they'd make great movies. Especially Au Revoir Crazy European Chick.

This is unrelated, but I love the cover of Vitro. I didn't realize that was Jessica Khoury. I mean, not that I've actually read any of her books lol, but I have the Aladdin retelling one on my TBR.

    1. Crazy European is a book I didn't expect to like, but I actually did. surprised me.

I LOVE the cover of Vitro, something about it. I may have spotlighted it a while back, don't remember. And it was a good book too. I've read a couple of hers now and that one's my fave.

  14. Great picks and choice of topic. I've heard great things about Fangirl, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Vitro sounds really interesting, if it was made into a movie I'd definitely watch that.

  15. Fangirl and A School for Unusual Girls would both make amazing movies, as long as the casting was spot on. Great list, now I need to go watch Mean Girls! :) My TTT

  16. I've only read Fangirl and A School for Unusual Girls but I think a lot of these would make good movies. If I had to pick the one with the best shot of actually becoming a movie I'd go with Eight Hundred Grapes since it is so popular though Fangirl has a huge following too. Great list!

  17. I still need to read Au Revoir Crazy European Chick and Fangirl - they both sound so good!

  18. Fangirl COULD really be perfect as a movie with the right cast!! That book was so great :) I still need to read Emilie and the Hollow World, Panic and Blackbird though. Oh and The Cats of Tanglewood Forest is new to me but it sounds like a book I'd love. It reminds me of The Warriors series which I LOVED. Thanks for putting it on my radar Greg and awesome list^^

  19. I've been wanting to read something by Jessica Khoury for the longest time and have had my eye on Vitro for just about as long! Glad to here that you liked it. Hopefully I'll get around to it this year. Great list Greg!

  20. I'll admit I haven't read any of these but some looked like I needed to add them to my tbr, especially Au Revoir Crazy European Chick

  21. I have to admit I've only heard of Fangirl out of the books on this list, but your descriptions of them has got me intrigued! Vitro, A School for Unusual Girls, and Au Revoir Crazy European Chick sound right up my alley, whether in book or movie form. Hopefully one of these would be picked up - seems like they would make a nice change from all the dystopian movies that are trending lately!

  22. I've read exactly ZERO of these, but 'Unusual Girls' does sound intriguing.

  23. I've only read Fangirl but I know the basic plot of the rest of these and agree they would be great movies! I would love to see Throne of Glass as a movie, as long as they really fleshed it out. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  24. I would love to see Fangirl on the big screen, too. I'm adding Au Revoir Crazy European Chick to my tbr right now. :)

  26. The Cats of Tanglewood Forest sounds like it would make a wonderful anime. I loved the Eve trilogy and have wanted to read Blackbird for a while now. It does sound like it would make a great movie. Thanks for reminding me about Planet of Exile! I need to read it again. I love revisiting the SciFi I used to read. :)
