This week is a look at those series that we've been meaning to start- but for some reason haven't.
The 100! MY favorite show- how can I not have read these books? Well I heard they sucked, but... it might be time.
I just read this and it was AWESOME. There's another one coming and I will be all over that.
This isn't due until December, and Goodreads says it first in a series, but space pirates? I'm in.
This just looks like it's a trip.
And... since that's about it, time for a bonus round. Here are some that I've tried that have rocked.
I absolutely love this book. And do you know how hard it is to get it in this cover? At least for me- Hodder & Stoughton show it as unavailable, and the copy I ordered was the other cover. I.need.this.one.
I love this series.
Yup. Love it.
I'm planning to read Six of Crows and River of Teeth at some point this year, hopefully. I'm dreading starting some of the shiny new series I've discovered recently...it could mean a lot more book buying if I love them! Interesting mix of genres on your list!
ReplyDeleteI need to read both of those too. River of Teeth I was just going to spotlight for its cover but now I actually kinda wanna read it!
DeleteWithin the sanctuary of wings looks sooo epic! That cover is so mesmerising!
ReplyDeleteI know, I need to read that series...
DeleteThe Six of Crows duology is pretty great. I really disliked The 100 book. Like I rated it 1 star. The show has so much more than the book.
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems to like it! Can't wait to read it. I've heard that about the 100 book, and it's holding me back to be honest.
DeleteI've actually read the first book in The 100 series, and though I didn't hate it it's super different to the TV show. If you don't read it, you're not missing out on too much!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that it's very different. I kinda leaning towards not reading it lol!
DeleteU need to try Brennan :D It is so fun and well written and strange
ReplyDeleteThat's good to know!
DeleteZero for me, too. Boy I've got a lot of reading to do before I check out of this place.

Ooh, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet sounds amazing. Thank you for the recommendation. I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteHere is my Top Ten Tuesday.
It is seriously a very good book.
DeleteCan't wait to hear what you think of the Six of Crows series. And I loved The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to it and Small Angry Planet was great wasn't it?
DeleteI hope that you get to read all of these series! There are so many series that I want to start but not enough time :)
ReplyDeleteI know, so true!
DeleteI really enjoyed the Six of Crows duology. And I really need to read that dragon trilogy, of course! :)
ReplyDeleteI need those dragon books too. and Six of Crows !!
DeleteI have to read Six of Crows series too. I need to get to The Long Way soon. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like Long Way, I know you don't read a lot of SF but it's awesome. )
DeleteIf you read the 100 I want to know all about it. I also heard they weren't good! I sometimes look back and think that if I've started watching a show based on books maybe it's just better to leave well enough alone. Maybe I prefer the books and become disappointed in the show or maybe I start picking apart all the differences OR read something that hasn't shown up in the show plotline yet!
ReplyDeleteThe only one I follow religiously in terms of both books and show is Game of Thrones. I don't know how I've managed to set those apart in my head!
Six of Crows was amazing. Highly recommend. Although if you plan on reading the Grisha read those first. You technically CAN read them separately, but just trust me.
I don't know if I'm going to read The 100- I keep going back and forth. Everyone has said it's so different so I don't REALLY need to read 'em- but I'm curious. And Game of Thrones can be hard to keep separate- I've read the books like four times and I still sometimes wonder, did I read it or see it on the show?
DeleteThat's interesting, I was going to skip the Grisha stuff cause it doesn't really appeal to me, and just read SoC, but I also hate to go into story when I don't have all the background. :)
Whaaaat, you love The 100 I thought you'd read it by now. Ahh the Six of Crows series...
ReplyDeleteYes!!!! Love the show, what did you of S4???
DeleteChild of the Hidden Sea looks really interesting!

I loved Six of Crows SO much yet I'm struggling with Crooked Kingdom and I have no idea why. *cries*
ReplyDeleteI want to read the Marie Brennen series. Those covers are gorgeous and DRAGONS!
For What It's Worth
Huh, second book slump huh? That's too bad...
DeleteCrooked Kingdom. Yes! Every time I see that one I go "I need to read this!" and then promptly...don't. lol
ReplyDeleteI do the same. I sound like a broken record, I should read it and then I never do lol.
DeleteThe Grisha Trilogy made my list, and I'm hoping I'll love it enough to want to continue with Six of Crows.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your reads!
I'm looking forward to Six of Crows, not sure if I'll read grisha first?
DeleteI LOVED Six of Crows, I still need to finish Crooked kingdom though, I thought it was kind of boring.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
You're the second commenter to say that! That's very interesting, I'll keep that in mind. It's hard to enjoy a second book when it's slow moving...
DeleteI want to read The 100 as well. It's been on my list forever! I've been telling myself that I won't watch the show until I read the books but I might end up caving soon. I adored the Six of Crows duology! They are absolutely amazing! I hope you enjoy all these books! Happy reading! Here's my Top Ten Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteOh you must watch the show! I've heard the show is WAY better than the books and TBH it's one of my fave shows.
DeleteThank you and I hope I like Six of crows.
I keep meaning to read the Marie Brennan and Leigh Bardugo series but for whatever reason just haven't started
ReplyDeleteSame here. I think I'm a smidgen more excited about the brennan books but want to read bot.
DeleteYou know I own all of the Marie Brennan series in hardbacks I got from Book Outlet super cheap (except for the newest) and STILL haven't read them. That's sad huh? I have Small Angry Planet in that cover but had to order it from Book Depository and have had it for some time.
ReplyDeleteI bet those all look nice in hardcover! Such amazing covers- and I'll try Book depository, I want to get the book in that cover but so far no luck!
DeleteI can't recommend Armstrong enough, if you only choose one series to actually start, I would choose that one! :P
ReplyDeleteI've read a few of hers now and they're very good!
DeleteI love the cover for Child of a Hidden Sea :) Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom are some of my faves, so hope you'll enjoy! And I've been hesitating about reading The 100 books as well.
ReplyDeleteI do too. That whole series and the premise really have me interested, I'm just not sure. And good to hear that Kingdom are so good.
DeleteThe 100 was almost on my list too! I bought one of the books intending to read it, turns out it was the first one. I'm scared to look up anymore of the books on your list in case they end up going on mine. So many series! >.<
ReplyDeleteI'm back and forth on the 100. I've heard they're not essential to enjoy the show, but as a fan it feels weir not to be all over the books?!?
DeleteI want to read Crooked Kingdoms too and finish Small Angry Planet :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you like Angry Planet- one of my favorite books!
DeleteI haven't read any of these yet, but the Six of Crows series is on my TBR list. A School for Unusual Girls looks good too. I'll have to check it out. I hope you enjoy all of these when you get to them!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my TTT!
Thank you, and I highly recommend the school for Unusual Girls series.
DeleteSo many of these books look absolutely brilliant! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissi!
DeleteRiver Of Teeth looks good. What is it about? And of course the Bardugo looks great! I hsve to read the next Long Way book. :)
ReplyDeleteRiver of Teeth is about hippos brought to America (which was apparently a real thing, but didn't actually happen) and sounds like they go berserk. I'm not sure if that sounds good or not, but it's getting buzz!
DeleteHahahaha!
DeleteI read SoC and really need to read Crooked Kingdom. This one really lived up to all the hype.
ReplyDeleteSam @ WLABB
Oh you MUST read Six of Crows. It is fabulous and marvelous and all things wonderful. I haven't read Crooked Kingdom, though. :(
ReplyDeleteSophia @ Bookwyrming Thoughts
That Martha Wells book looks intriguing. And I have several of the other books languishing on my Kindle. Great list, Greg.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know my thoughts on The 100 books- though FWIW, I just finished the 4th book. They are the quickest reads EVER, and honestly, by book 2 they feel nothing like the show characters- and also, Bellarke is canon so there's that ;) (I mean, don't get me wrong, they're still terrible, but in a way that I clearly had to read the whole series?)
ReplyDeleteSix of Crows is really good! I liked Crooked Kingdom even more! I'm definitely going to need to read River of Teeth at this point. And City of the Lost and A School for Unusual Girls. Hell, they'll probably all end up on my TBR, let's be real.
OH! And as for A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, I got mine at Book Depository. It's a paperback, Idk if that matters, but I have the pretty cover, at least!
Pretty much all of these are on my tbr! The only one I have read is The 100 which unfortunately I was not a fan of - I like the show however. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI hesitate to pick up The 100 books because I'm kind of attached to the tv portrayal of the characters and I'm not sure I want to ruin this.
ReplyDeleteI read the first book in The 100 Series, but haven't gotten further so far. One of these days...
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I need to Read Six of Crows as well. I have to agree that Kelley Armstrong's City of the Lost is a great series.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Marie Brennan's Lady Trent series is one of my favorites! It took a couple books to really get going, but once it did I was hooked! I highly recommend checking out those books when you can!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with you on Child of A Hidden Sea - I didn't get a chance to start this series when the first book came out, now I wish I had because the later books sound really good!
~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
The Hidden Sea Tales are a ton of fun! The series started a bit shaky but it's really grown on me - I know lots of people aren't keen on it, but I think portal fantasy is a ton of fun. I haven't read Six of Crows etc. either yet! Also, I just ordered copies of the first two Stranje House books and I'm SO EXCITED to read them! :D
ReplyDeleteThat is good to know! I kinda wanted to read the Hidden sea books but I just wasn't sure, and the sample was pretty good but didn't seal the deal. Hearing that it grew on you- maybe I'll give it a chance then, and stick with it. And I do like a good portal fantasy. :)
DeleteI'm so glad you're gonna read stranje House, I hope you like em as much as I did!!
Yep, yep, yep. I need to read All Systems Red and River of Teeth, too. I had to laugh when I saw The 100 on your list!
ReplyDeleteAll systems Red was such a pleasant surprise- and a quick read. And River of Teeth I totally need to read now!
DeleteI love the cover of The Sanctuary of Wings!
ReplyDeleteI do too. Those covers are all so distinctive, and I can't wait to read those.
DeleteThat cover for River of Teeth is awesomesauce! I might have to add that one.
ReplyDeleteAnd the answer is: Always space pirates.
Thanks for checking out My TTT!
Isn't it though? I LOVE it! And space pirates are always a yes!
DeleteI need to read The Small Way... and every time someone mentions it, they seem to love it! Child of a Hidden Sea has an eye catching cover! Interested to hear your thoughts on these when you get around to them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by The Local Muse
I hope you love these books when you get around to them! :-)
ReplyDeleteThose all look great! This meme is going to be super bad for my wishlist I can tell! The Lady Trent Memoirs, the Martha Wells, and the Becky Chambers are all ones I'm very interested in!
ReplyDeleteI hear so many good things about the Lady Trent books! I should give them a try as well, especially since they are dealing with dragons :)
ReplyDeleteChild of a hidden sea sounds good!
Leigh's series SO should have been on my list! I saw it made a few others, and each time I saw it, I was reminded of the oversight on my part. *sigh* Next time I guess! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, as always, for visiting Finding Wonderland, Greg.
Great topic! I feel I have so many! Lol. Love the City of the Lost books too. I can hardly wait for the next one!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of space pirates, did you ever watch Firefly? Such a great show, I love it and still am so mad it was cancelled. There are only a few episodes, frustratingly, but still worth watching.
I just read Six of Crows and it was amazing! I've already put River of Teeth on my TBR, but it sure looks like fun. Good list.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: http://books.thetechchef.net/top-ten-tuesday-30/
I'll let you be the guinea pig and try The 100 books;). I love the show but have also heard the books are not great so maybe I'll see what your learned opinion is before picking them up!
ReplyDeleteYou know I did the audio for the first book in the 100 and I didn't totally hate it. All systems red looks super interesting!
ReplyDeleteThe artwork is Child of a Hidden Sea looks FANTASTIC!! And I think you'll enjoy Crooked Kingdom! It's a little like the Gentleman Bastard series actually. Lots of fun, messed up characters, interesting world-building. Good stuff all around!
