2nd week of June! Wow. And it's been nice too. Sun all week. I rebounded a bit with my reading and stayed away from Netflix- kinda. I read Grit and am in the middle of Brave New Girl right now- I think I'm going to read Dangerous Girls next.
I've been reading a ton of thrillers all year (some of you have noticed) and very little SF. So I was kinda surprised this week for Top Ten Tuesday to find some SF stuff that I didn't know about, and I'm happy to report that my SF TBR is nicely replenished.
I reviewed One Of Us Is Lying this past week. Next week is Grit, a very nice debut.

BOOKISH LINKS
Looking forward to the return of Orphan Black - go seestra's!
ReplyDeleteThe art you've found this week is great. The telekinesis pic really stood out for me.
Go Orphan Black! Can't WAIT to see the sestras again!!!
DeleteWhen I was preparing my TTT post for next week, I noticed that I'm very short on horrors on the tbr that don't have zombies. Might be time to hunt a few down I think. This week has felt like the middle of winter which suits me just fine!
ReplyDeleteYeah I felt the same way about SF- I hardly had any! Luckily I sorted that out lol. Hope you find some good stuff. And sometimes the cold is nice, beats being too hot!
DeleteI was watching s3 of Orphan and never watched more. Dunno why
ReplyDeleteOne of those seasons got kinda weird (maybe it was 3?) where I was like, what are they doing? I stuck with it but it wasn't my favorite.
DeleteI've been wanting to watch Luther. I might have to check it out. The weather is nice here now. Sunny and hot. Can't wait for you to read Dangerous Girls! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLuther is good. The villians though... man it gets dark. And I can't wait for Dangerous Girls, have heard so many good things.
DeleteI cannot wait for Orphan Black's return! And Luther!! HOw good is it???
ReplyDeleteI know right? Orphan Black!!! And Luther- it's a good show. I like the shorter seasons, doesn't take hours to get through one. And Alice Morgan is awesome!
DeleteLooking forward to reading your thoughts on the books you've read (and will be reading) this week!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
Happy Sunday (or Saturday, at the moment)!!
DeleteOrphan Black is one of my favorite shows, Greg. It's just so clever and well done. And I'm in awe with the main actress - she is amazing.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic weekend, I hope the weather continues to be nice.
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
I totally agree. Love the show- and all the clones played by the same person. How doe she do that???
DeleteI like The Girl in the Rain pic above-- would make for varied flash fiction!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your SFF tbr is replenished. I know it's your go-to genre.
I was thinking of watching Luther (I like the main actor) but the seasons are so short there, I wasn't sure if there were enough shows done to make a good binge. I guess the answer is yes :)
Have a good week and stay cool!
You're right- that would be a good flash fic prompt! And yes it feels good to have some new SF. :)
DeleteLuther is good, the main actor is phenomenal, and the villains are nasty (just forewarning). I think it's a good binge. I actually liked the later seasons being shorter, as I don't want to spend 10 hours on every season.
I've read some good reviews on One of Us is Lying. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan but I've discovered some good ones when I decided to try them out.
ReplyDeleteI thought One Of Us Was Lying was quite good!
DeleteI need to read more thrillers - I really enjoy them but for some reason only pick them up rarely. I'm glad you've found a ton this year to like! The artwork as usual is beautiful and it does really fire the brain. The more futuristic images had me longing for an intergalactic life and feeling little melancholy that we won't get there in my lifetime. Sigh.... Where did that come from?!? Dang beautiful, imaginative artwork!
ReplyDeleteI have found a lot of good thrillers this year, so far. Maybe it's just because I'm reading them more? I seem to go in phases though- this year seems to be thriller phase for sure!
DeleteAnd I know what you mean about the art. SF art has always appealed to me for that sense of wonder. I would love to have an intergalactic life but we're not going to see that , are we?
Oh, I love thrillers. So glad you've been enjoying them lately! Hope you like Brave New Girl - I'm dying to read that book.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic week, Greg :)
Amy @ A Magical World Of Words
I have been all about the thrillers lately, ha ha. Although YA might be making a comeback, since I'm reading one now and have more coming up. :) In fact Brave New Girl is the one I'm reading- about halfway through.
DeleteThe Brave New Girl cover is intriguing. I am going to start watching the Downton Abbey series soon. Unfortunately, it is not on Netflix. I have to check out the DVDs from the library. I only get a week to watch a whole season. Thank goodness I am on summer break!
ReplyDeleteI like that cover too! Enjoy the show. I liked it. The dowager Countess is awesome!
DeleteOoh, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Dangerous Girls, it's one of my favourites <3
ReplyDeleteMegan @ http://wanderingsofabookbird.blogspot.co.uk/
I think I'm reading that one next!
DeleteNetflix is super distracting. I usually watch it while I'm blogging that way I don't feel too guilty about spending so much time on it. I've been eyeing Grit lately. Hopefully it was a good one.
ReplyDeleteNetflix takes all of my hours! And I liked Grit! Review will be up on Thur, hope you like it if you try it!
Deletesome really nice pictures there! happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melliane!
DeleteI'm looking forward to your review for Grit. I didn't like it but I'm interested for your take since it seems like you did.
ReplyDeleteFor What It's Worth
I did like it, although I didn't at first. I was pretty wary but eventually it won me over. I can see where it wouldn't necessarily be for everyone though.
DeleteI can't believe how fast this year is flying by. I am enjoying the fact that it is starting to feel a bit like summer. I love a good thriller but I do like to mix up the genres I read a bit. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI like to mix up genres too, and I feel like this year I've read SO many thrillers. I want to mix it up a little the rest of the year. And I agree- hard to believe June already!!
DeleteIt is crazy it's already the 10th. Going way too fast. Always exciting getting back to a genre you've not read in a while. That's me with urban fantasy. I've been spotting some fun ones to add to the pile lately. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it is JUNE, let alone almost mid- June. Crazy. I need more urban fantasy too, I picked one up recently but I need more. I've tried few series and have found some I like, now I need to move them up!
DeleteI loved Soul Screamers, and am eager to hear what you have to say about Brave New Girl. I loved One of Us is Lying, and really want to read Dangerous Girls, I have heard so many good things about it.
ReplyDeleteSam @ WLABB
Brave New Girl is good so far, not great, but it's keeping my attention. And dangerous Girls is next just because I hear so many people sing its praises- I need to get to it!
DeleteGlad you found more time for reading this week. I tried to do better but only read two books. I kind of blame that on watching the new Beauty and the Beast. I also watched episodes of I Love Lucy because I needed some humor in my life.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a Comic Con (aside from my library's) but hope to go to a real one some day so I am curious about what tips you'll be sharing. I was in Indianapolis at their convention center for a library conference while Indiana Comic Con was going on and it was hilarious because we had cosplayers pointing at us and saying "look, it's a librarian".
I Love Lucy- my mom loved that show so I saw some as a kid. I thought she was a riot. I like going to cons so I was happy when they asked me. And the Indiana convention center is nice, although I understand they're upgraded it some since I was there last. I used to there every year for GenCon but haven't gone to the last few...
DeleteI am glad you had a good reading week, Greg! And nice weather. :-) It's been lovely here too. Not too hot, fortunately. This weekend it's been surprisingly cool. Pleasantly so!
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to see Luther. It looks really good.
I hope you have a great week, Greg!
It was a pretty good week! I like it when it's sunny and cool! I don't need the extreme heat.
DeleteLuther was one I tried and despite a few issues I liked it!
Ohh, curious to hear your thoughts on Brave New Girl! I liked it, despite some of it being a little ridiculous haha. Also, I finished One of Us is Lying last night, and you were right, SO good! I will say, the end was... mildly underwhelming? But overall, I liked it (especially the characters!) so much that I didn't care. And I hope you love Dangerous Girls! It's a trip haha.
ReplyDeleteLooks like that Telekinesis girl got caught on the Go-Sci ring during Praimfaya. Sad. She's going to be up there for at least 6 years and 7 days... The Cabin and Waiting to Land remind me of the Ark too. I keep telling myself that I am going to watch something new on Netflix, but instead... well, you know. One of these days haha. Glad the weather has been nice there! It was cold and rainy here, but now it's supposed to be 90 and sunny for the next few days, which I love, because pool weather! Hope it stays nice there too :D
I think my thoughts on Brave New Girl will be similar to yours. It's perfectly serviceable, not bad even, but yeah a little ridiculous. But I'm only halfway through so I can't say for sure yet... Glad you liked One Of Us Is Lying. I was glad they didn't go with some ridiculously convoluted uber- plot to explain it, even if aspects were a little iffy.
DeleteI love that Telekinesis pic, and you're right. She could be floating up there on the Ark. :) She's gotta long wait! Are you still on your rewatch? I would say you gotta watch 12 Moneksy so I have someone to discuss it with, but it's not on netflix. :(
Enjoy the pool!
Once again I love the art pieces you've chosen to feature this week. I really like the more contemplative ones.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Great visual images.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Luther in a while, but recall that the Alice character is played by the actress who plays Allison in The Affair.
I'm curious about One of Us is Lying...and also Grit.
Enjoy your week...hope to watch Orphan Black someday.
Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
Thank you! I loved Luther and especially Alice Morgan. Curious to see her in other thing now.
DeleteOne Of Us Is Lying is good, for a YA. And Orphan Black is a trip!
I know it's crazy to think it's almost the middle of the year! My trip in the Philippines is coming to an end and I am glad. I am so ready to be back home. :) I hope you read Hysteria soon as I am curious about that one. I am glad you have been reading thrillers cause it's giving me things to put on my TBR pile (as if I needed help...lol) :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Stormi
Week in Review
Yeah, June??? Yeesh. The Philippines sounds fun but yeah after a long trip I'm always ready to be home too. I'll have to read Hysteria soon, it is calling to me! And ha ha yeah I'm the go- to guy on thrillers seems like!
DeleteOrphan Black!! Hysteria looks cool. Did you see Wonder Woman? Enjoy your week and stay cool.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen Wonder Woman yet! I need to, I'm jealous of everyone who has lol.
DeleteAwesome photos! Glad that you've read One of Us is Lying! I really want to read that book myself!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
One Of Us was really good!
DeleteHa ha. Well done on turning your back on Netflix... Kinda. I managed to complete a book this week but really... I'm still all about the Netflix.
ReplyDeleteI need to catch up with the 100! I have a lot of TV hours in front of me!
I'm loving some of the cyborg-ish art you've been dinding lately. Also the girl in the rain is gorgeous.
Hope you have a great week this week!
Well I haven't cut the Netflix cord entirely. Now I'm watching a shoe called Shetland. I always seem to find something. :)
DeleteI'm loving the cyberpunk type art lately.
Sun all week sounds great. I wish we had more of those weeks here. LOL!! Good to hear your SF TBR is replenished. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and happy reading!
We're supposed to be HOT this week. all that complaining I did about the rain... not anymore! Hope you have a good week too!
DeleteGlad you're back to SF, that's the Greg I know :)
ReplyDeleteI know, right??? :)
DeleteYay, I binge watched Luther a few weeks ago too! Such a good show and yeah, Alice is just...
ReplyDeleteAlice is amazing, and I really liked that show...
DeleteI've been craving sci-fi lately but don't seem to own much at all. Definitely something I need to remedy soon. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Greg!
I needed to find some scifi, I was starting t o miss it!
DeleteAmazing art. As always, Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shandy Jo!
DeleteThis year just needs to slow down, I have so much I want to do and I am not doing any of it. Last year was the year of bad things and this year is the year of going to fast and not getting anything done, I hope next year is the slow year where lots of things happen. lol We are also about to get a major heatwave. In the low 90's and upper 80's all week.
ReplyDeleteI might have to do last weeks, Top Ten another time because I missed it this week and it looked interesting. I will be missing it again this week.
Loving all the art especially the cabin. Something about that one keeps catching my eye.
Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!
Yeah I hear ya definitely. It's supposed to be 90's here ALL WEEK. Welcome summer apparently. I hope you feel more on track and don't worry- your blog is always fun. :)
DeleteIt was a fun Top Ten. And I love the cabin one too. Something cozy about it, in a way??
I read very little thriller books as it's not really my genre, but I am reading Missing by Kelley Armstrong at the moment. I almost finished it. Will have to look up your review for it then as I remember you read it earlier this year.
ReplyDeleteThat's neat you replenished your sci-fi reading list a bit. Brave New Girl sounds good!
I like the sci-fi pictures you shared this week! Have a nice week!
I used to never read thrillers, and lately that's all I've been reading. lol blogging surely has changed my tastes! I did like Missing.
DeleteBrave New Girl is not bad so far, I wasn't sure what to expect and I'm glad I reading it.
It's funny how sometimes there seems to be a run of books in a particular genre that all are released/appear together. I sometimes look around and realise I've read too many of one genre for a while - hopefully over the year it evens out. Glad you are back to sci fi - I like the look of Grit and All Systems Red keeps calling to me, too... As ever the pics are awesome. Thank you! Have a great week, Greg. My Sunday Post - https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/06/11/sunday-post-11th-june-2017/
ReplyDeleteGrit was pretty good, and yes I think sci fi is calling me again after a bit of a hiatus. :) I just discovered All Systems Red recently and I'm REALLY curious about that one!
DeleteThank you and have a wonderful week!
I should play catch up on The 100 someday. I think I missed the last two seasons. Hysteria and Brave New Girl look really good. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI thoguht this past season of The 100 was really good, and the cliffhanger set the stage for an interesting S5!I'm excited about Hysteria and Brave New Girl is not bad so far.
DeleteOrphan Black is on my "to-watch" list. Everyone I know says I need to watch it! And One of Us is Lying is on my TBR. I'll have to check out your review, hopefully you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
https://daniereadsbooks.wordpress.com/2017/06/10/the-sunday-post-4/
Orphan Black is awesome, and the S5 premiere last night... pretty great!
DeleteOrphan Black has always been on my to watch list. I just don't have any time to binge watch TV these days. I miss it. Lauren @ Obsessive Book Nerd
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black is good! And I know, there are so many shows and not nearly enough time!
DeleteOh I have never watched Luther or Orphan Black! I will have to check those out while I have time this summer! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteBoth are good, but Orphan Black is amazing!
DeleteThriller is weighing heavy on my reading so far this year too. Fortunately, good ones. I love those pulp fiction covers. Although, I do not know if I would actually read the story. Looking forward to the comic-con tips. I hope to go to the San Diego one someday.
ReplyDeleteI have been reading a ton of thrillers. Glad you liked the pulp cover! I have fun finding those. :) And I haven't read ANY of them, I love how ridiculous the taglines are!
DeleteI heard that One of us is Lying is good, so I'll have to see what you think! I'm glad that your SF TBR was replenished. It's always nice to find new books to read. Happy reading, and have a good week! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought One Of Us Waas Lying was VERY good. Highly recommend. Breakfast Club plus murder lol.
DeleteAnd thanks! It's nice to have more SF again...
I feel like I am seeing One of Us is Lying everywhere. Thanks for the heads up on Orphan Black - love that show!
ReplyDeleteI love Orphan Black too. And One Of Us is quite good- I've been seeing it around a lot too!
DeleteIt's been sunny here too. Summer is officially here because it's hot and humid. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThat Raven image is gorgeous!
Hope you have a great week!
Yeah it's getting hot here too. 90's all week- yay.
DeleteI did like that Raven image- creepy yet cool at the same time.
Luther is such a good show! Alice is something else. I can't believe Orphan Black is ending. I'm trying to decide if I'll watch it now, or wait until the season ends and binge, which tends to be my M.O. lately. Enjoy all your new goodies!
ReplyDeleteLuther is something else, and Alice... wow. She's a badass. And Orphan Black S5 is off to a good start, if that helps... lol.
DeleteI finally need to continue with Orphan Black. I've only seen the first season! Tsssk! But I LOVE Luther... and we need to binge Orange is the New Black soon!
ReplyDeleteOoh you have some good binging ahead of you! Luther was great...
DeleteI have the ARC for One of Us Lying but haven't gotten around to it but I've heard it's really good. I hope to get to it this month. Unlike you, I didn't stay away from Netflix this week, I started watching The Crown and I'm absolutely fascinated by it.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful week!
Tina @ As Told By Tina
I have heard The Crown is great! And One Of Us was good- hope you like it when you get to it.
DeleteI've switched off NetFlix just now but I think I may switch it back on to watch Orphan Black, I've been hearing a lot of good things about it. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black is the best! I don't know if netflix has it here, but it might in your neck of the woods.
DeleteYou always find the most interesting artwork. I’d love to read a story about that Secret Garden. It looks like a creepy place.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks, and I agree. That pic reminds me of the Wayward Pines show.
DeleteI've heard One of Us is Lying is good, and I've been curious about it for a while. I will check out your review!
ReplyDeleteI was late doing my Sunday post and can't seem to get the linky working but if you'd like to check out mine, here it is:Inspiration Pie
Jo-Ann
One Of Us Is Lying- good stuff!
DeleteAnd thanks- I'll be by to check out your post!
I hope you enjoy Dangerous Girls. It's a favorite of mine!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm reading that one next, I've heard SO many good things.
DeleteI've been staying away from Netflix and Hulu but there are shows I've been wanting to catch up on. I think I'll try to watch a couple of shows per week just to get a break from reading lol. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI keep going back and forth re Netflix. I think right now I'm getting sucked back in again... lol it is a nice break from reading, and a few shows a week keeps the Netflix itch at bay. :)
DeleteGrit looks pretty interesting and I can't wait to hear your thoughs. Love that Raven pic!
ReplyDeleteI liked Grit!!
DeleteI want to get to One of Us Is Lying! Netflix will definitely help beat the heat these next few days.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! Man it's gonna be hot. And I thought One Of Us Is Lying was really good!
DeleteAh yes, prepping for a Comicon. I'm learning, as ours gets larger here in KS. We went all three days this year, and still there were things we wanted to get to that we missed, but I do think I'm getting the prep down pretty well! I'm sure LA's is a lot larger though. I used to think I wanted to go to San Diego Comicon, but knowing that's bigger than ours, I'm not so sure any more! lol! Infinite was nice music! I agree, Settlement does have a lot of possibilities, so many lives happening in and around.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out the Martha Wells and the Rachel Vincent, they look interesting!
Have a great week!
Nice to see a new Martha Wells so I'm curious on that. And I agree- San Diego might be too big. I'd like to go to one that's still big but not necessarily that big, you know?? The Las vegas one doesn't actually look that big, although it does seem to be growing.
DeleteGoing to a comic con must be a lot of fun, do you go and dress up?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. I'm adding Brave New Girl to my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteI really want to read One of Us is Lying. It looks amazing. Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteMy It's Monday! What Are You Reading? post.
I really enjoyed the Telekinesis picture!
ReplyDeleteOne of us is lying sounds intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI've heard such great things about Dangerous Girls. Looking forward to seeing what you think of it!
ReplyDeleteMy reading has been pretty heavy on thrillers so far this year too. It seems like I get offered a lot of them for review. I need to balance out with some more science fiction and some more romances. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThose titles certainly catch one's attention. I do like the idea of a girl going against the "norm." I understand about the addiction of Netflix. Memorial Day weekend I binged on a lot of Gillmore Girls after finally watching the last season of The Good Wife. I still watch some GG in the evening when I'm too tired to do anything else.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently on a Netflix ban. Haha! There are a lot of books I want to read in June and so I can't get sucked into shows. It sounds like you've got some good books lined up. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeing One of Us is Lying for my next audiobook after I finish Waking Gods. Love the idea of it, but I'm a little skeptical! I'll have to go find your review.
ReplyDeleteAll of your new and upcoming books look really good. I need to add them all to my list! Is that Idris Elba in Luther? I love him! I can't wait for the Gunslinger in August. Have you read that series? I have loved it since high school! I even have the graphic novel for the first book. It is so good, I think you would love it if you haven't read it yet.
ReplyDeleteThat Raven illo is creepy! Those eyes! I've never been to Com-Con, so I'm interested in your tips.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a good week. You have some new and neat looking books. Hope you enjoy them.
ReplyDelete
