Can't Wait Wednesday is a meme hosted by Wishful Endings to spotlight and talk about the books that we're looking forward to. Generally they are books that have not yet been released. It's based on the previous meme Waiting on Wednesday which was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. More info here.
I haven't done a Waiting on Wednesday in ages and I see that Wishful Endings has picked up the baton and is carrying the tradition forward. This week I'm jumping back in but I'm going to spotlight a movie instead of a book- because us book bloggers can be such rule- breakers right? Seriously though this movie looks awesome- I think? Visually stunning. But will the story be there? I'd like to know what you all think- is this one a yea or nay?
A movie based on a graphic novel totally counts! I think this looks magnificient, but Cara D makes me pause. I saw her in Suicide Squad recently and... maybe she's grown as an actor, I guess?
ReplyDeleteYay, thanks! I think there's a lot of uncertainty about Cara. I don't mind her but I know she's not the most popular... :)
DeleteLet's hope it's good!
Yay for rule breaking. I've seen this promo several times now and every time I do, I'm even more excited to see it. However, like Verushka, I'm not sure about the Cara D casting.
ReplyDeleteThe visual bits have me enthralled, but will the story be there? That's my concern...
DeleteNope. we are not rule followers :) I can't wait for this on either. I feel in love with the trailer last week when we wen to see the Mummy [ugh, the mummy though... so bad!]
ReplyDeleteNo we are not. And I love the look of the trailer... the Mummy though, ugh. Seriously??
DeleteNot even heard about it
ReplyDeleteI only heard about this a few weeks ago.
DeleteYay you're doing movies too!! And I really like the look of this one, although I'm not sure what I think of Cara D's casting...I feel like she's one of the actresses who's cast just for her looks? But I haven't seen her in much, so I might be wrong.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy this one when you watch it!

I like to do movies once in a while. I like the look of this too, although Cara does seem to be a sticking point for people. Maybe she'll pull it off?
DeleteI like your take on Can't Wait for It Wednesday! This looks like a good one and it's a graphic novel I'm not aware of (big shocker I know). This looks like a fun one to see in the theater!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a Waiting on Wed in ages! I think it looks fun- a good one to see on the big screen.
DeleteWhat an interesting choice - I shall go and take a further look at this as I'd not heard of it prior to seeing this post.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I only heard of this a few weeks ago myself- it kinda flew under my radar.
DeleteI hadn't heard of this movie, but it looks good. I like that you posted about a movie and I'm just getting back into the whole Waiting on Wednesday thing too
ReplyDeleteYeah I used to WoW posts and got away from it last year- so it was nice to see someone else taking the initiative with this meme. And I think this looks good, I hope it has a good story! :)
DeleteI haven't heard of this movie before now. I love that you decided to go with a movie. I hope you enjoy this one!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's pretty new to me also, I just discovered it a few weeks ago.
DeleteI hadn't even heard of this one! If it's based off of a sci-fi comics series though, I hope it will be good. Graphic novel adaptations can be so hit or miss.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Apparently the French comics it is based on go way back... and yes they are spotty, hopefully this one is good.
DeleteHaha. Did not know this was base on a book, now I want to read the book before I see the movie.
ReplyDeleteThis movies sounds interesting! I'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW!

The first time I knew anything about this was when the promotional film posters released. I'm sufficiently intrigued enough to take a closer look! Thanks for the reminder. :)
ReplyDeleteI love seeing movie picks, and this isn't one I had heard of before now! Thanks so much for putting it on my radar :)
ReplyDeleteMy son will love this. Thanks for stopping by my WoW and sharing. I hope you enjoy it as well!!
ReplyDeleteI saw the trailer for this a little while ago and I'm so hopeful! Please please please let Laureline be more than just a pretty face with boobs!!
ReplyDeleteAnnette @ http://www.shesareader.com
Luc Besson is hit or miss with story... it's adapted from a graphic novel though and they mostly have at least enough story for a movie 👍🏻😁 it looks so good that I'll probably give it a go. Thanks for sharing... I didn't know about it! Maybe I'll give the graphic novel a try too...
ReplyDeleteThis movie does look really visually stunning-- though I'll admit, even after watching a couple different previews for it, I'm still not entirely sure what the plot is..
ReplyDeleteWell, as an ardent SF fan, my reaction could be expected....WOWZA!!! BRING IT ON!! YAAAAAAS!!! I've just watched this trailer, and it's SO mind-blowing!! I DEFINITELY want to see this movie!!! I won't be able to see it in 3D, though, as that makes me dizzy....Lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check out this graphic novel!! Thanks for sharing!! <3 :)
Thanks as well for stopping by and commenting on my own CWW post!! And welcome back to sharing eagerly anticipated books (or movies)!!
<3 :)
I haven't heard of this but watched the trailer and really liked it! Might be worth seeing on the big screen :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking so too!!
DeleteInitially, I chalked this up to a generic sci-fi, just someone trying to put something new into the genre with actually creating something original, but after a little digging I learned Valerian actually predates Star Wars and there's a bit of controversy over whether Lucas 'borrowed' some of his visual concepts from it.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by this one, but with even the trailers putting so much stress on 'visually stunning' and '3D experience', I'm skeptical as to story/character content as well. I'd probably watch it either way, but whether I paid to see it in theaters would depend on what I hear in reviews.
I didn't know anything about Valerian either until recently, i actually bought the first graphic novel. It wasn't half bad, considering it's dated now. I need to read more since the stuff they're drawing from for the movie comes from later editions, I guess.
DeleteI'm a little concerned about story too, I'm assuming the story is going to be kinda weak- hope I'm wrong. :) I probably will see it in the theater since visually it kinda has me now- I hope I don't regret it!
This looks good! Been seeing the trailer everywhere.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought that said Valerian and the City Of a Thousand Plants. I guess that would be a whole different story!
