Sunday Post #123

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

I was traveling last weekend for the holidays so no Sunday Post last week. It's nice to get back to it though- I hope everyone had a great holiday and a happy New Year. Hard to believe it's a New Year already. Did you do anything fun- any parties? Mine was pretty low key, and that was kinda nice.

Last week I counted down my Top 10 Anticipated Reads and I had my first Bookcover Spotlight of the new year yesterday.

Cover Characteristics returns this week and I'll share my thoughts on Desperately Seeking Susan. I'll also be posting a Star Wars discussion on Wednesday- now that the movie has been out for a few weeks I thought it would be fun to discuss- what did you love, what did you hate? And where do you think this story is going? It'll be spoilerific of course, but if you've seen the movie or just want to jump in, come on by.

BOOKISH NEWS:

Books of Amber, Lady Knight Reads and The Overstuffed Bookcase are hosting a rewatch of The 100. The event is already underway and runs until Jan. 21- which is when S3 premieres. They're watching about 3 episodes a week plus a livewatch on Twitter. The 100 is available on Netflix and you can go here for all the info.

  1. Welcome back! My New Year celebration was pretty low-key as well. Sometimes those are the best.

I love that work by Donato Giancola. Thanks for sharing.

  3. My New Year's was also low-key. I was saving a book I really wanted to read so I kind of just started reading right away at midnight lol.

Congrats on winning a book! All my giveaway entering has also recently paid off, and it definitely makes your day when you win a book you wanted.

    Also, that art is gorgeous!

I've been lucky with the giveaways lately, I've won a few good books and even a mug LOL.

  4. Happy New Year! It’s my first Sunday Post and I love seeing all these posts. SO much fun.
My New Year’s Eve was spend at home with my boyfriend. Just the two of us eating, drinking some cocktails and watching television. It was perfect.
I love to read your discussion about the new Star Wars movie. I watched it last week so I’ll try to check out the discussion! ;)

  5. Welcome back!! My New Year's consisted of some couple friends and their kids coming over. So we had 6 kids under the age of 4 causing havoc in my basement. It was fun but messy :) Have a great week and Happy New Year!!

  6. Happy New Year, Greg! Our New Years was nice and quiet and spent at home. My oldest son had some friends over, though, and they partied and didn't go to bed until 6:45 am... We just can't do that anymore :)
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

The Hitch-hiker's Guide is such a classic book, totally bonkers but one of my faves!

    Have a great week!

  9. I still need to read Hitchhiker's *hangs head in shame* but I just realized that a character on Gravity Falls (Disney cartoon, in case...) is named after Ford from this book.

On top of that shame, I have to admit I still haven't seen the ending of A Force Awakens. This is a common plight of my hubs and I when my son comes with us to movies. My hubs has gone back but I haven't had time yet :(

Hey, but Happy New Year to you, too!!!!!!!!!

    1. I've never read it either, so this is a first for me. Finally... :)

So what did your husband think of the end? I'm curious to hear your thoughts...

  10. Great art and videos! Enjoy your new books....I haven't read either of them.

I will wait until the Star Wars movie comes to DVD...I hate those crowds at the movies, and I love that when I'm in line, I don't hear them announcing that the movie is sold out. It's good to see movies that not everyone loves...LOL.

Thanks for visiting my blog...enjoy your week!

    1. I'm not a big fan of crowds at movies either- it was a little out of character for me to go opening night and squeeze in LOL. But it wasn't too bad...DVD is much more comfortable. :)

  11. Happy New Year! We had a small party with some friends and it was really fun. The rest of the weekend I planned to do not a darn thing :) So far it is exactly how it has gone. Back to everything on Monday and I am sort of looking forward to the normal.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  12. Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays and had safe travels. How are you liking Hitchhiker's Guide? I loved it but the humor is not for everyone. Congrats on your book win. :)

    1. I can see where it wouldn't be for everyone, but so far I like the zaniness. I need something goofy and interesting at the same time, and it's a pretty good year first read!

  13. I reread Hitchhiker's Guide in 2015 and really enjoyed it. I want to continue with the series this year. Of course I want to reread a lot of things this year so we'll see how that goes! Great win on The Conspiring Woman! I really want to read this series. Have a great week!

    1. I like how it's not too long, I'm so used to 300+ pages that this feels like a quick read, even though it's got a lot of stuff going on. Fun!

  14. I accidentally combined my Sunday Post comment with my comment on your TTT post, so if you want to know what I did for New Years Eve you will have go there and have a look, ha ha. I think the martinis I had on New Years Eve fried my brains! Have a great week, Greg. :)

    1. Ha ha that's funny. No martinis for me on New Years but it was still fun. And thanks for mentioning me on your blog- I'm so glad I found your blog on the Sunday Post (and Twitter)! I was honored to see my name on your end of the year post. :)

  16. Happy New Year!

I'll be seeing Star Wars soon, now that everyone else is going back to work and school. I don't like noisy crowds when I'm watching movies.

I didn't like the first episode of The 100 when it first aired but I've been thinking about giving it another shot now that the third season is about to start. I don't know if I have time to watch all those episodes before then though. It's really hard for me to binge watch any show, no matter how much I like it. I get bored after a few episodes.

    1. Thanks Jenna, you too! I hope you like it, I usually don't like seeing movies in crowded theaters either, I wait til they've been out a while. In this case I just went though. I didn't think it was that great but lots of people loved it...

I wasn't crazy about The 100 at first either, it took a few episodes for me to get into it (and S2 is much better). Some of the characters were annoying, and it was a bit teen angsty for want of a better word. But it gets better...

  17. I've been wanting to read The Hitchhiker's Guide ever since I saw the film. Enjoy!

  18. Happy New Year!

I just finished watching both seasons of The 100 and can't wait for season 3 to begin!

Hope you have a great week!

  19. Happy New Year, Greg! Our New Year's is usually low key too, but this year, as you know, we were able to go to the Rose Parade on New Year's Day. It was a lot of fun, although probably not something we will do often. I will try not to bite my nails as you read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'm curious to know what you think of it. The Conspiring Woman sounds and looks good! Congratulations on the win! The artwork you shared is really beautiful.

    Have a great week, Greg!

  20. I spent New year's rewatching LOTR and stitching, like I do every year. My New Year defines lowkey :) Happy new year, hope it's a good one :)

  22. We had a quiet New Year's weekend. We barely made it to the countdown! Looking forward to getting back to the normal schedule.

  23. I remember reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy back in the day... hope you enjoy it! The Conspiring Woman looks really good, too. We're practically on family overload now after the holidays, but I've enjoyed every minute :)

  24. Happy New Year! I had a really low-key New Year's Eve with my family. We stayed home and watched a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie.

I look forward to your Star Wars discussion post. I'll have to be sure I stop back to check it out. Have a great first week of 2016!

  28. I don't know if I'm relieved or disappointed that it seems to be official that book 6 of Game of Thrones won't be out before the next season of the show. I don't have any of the hardcovers so I didn't want to have to spring for one but I also really wanted to read it before the show! Enjoy your week!

    Here's my Weekly Recap!

  30. I am sure you saw that George RR Martin pushed back his next book again. Sigh. This is why I stopped reading those books. I need to do a Star Wars movie review on my blog. We camped out for it in the freezing. It was really fun.

    1. I did see that. Nice, right? I should have did what you did and chucked it until they're done (if they're ever done). Sigh. Now I have to see the end on TV...

  31. Those images are exquisite. I was going to mention the exact same comment by Angela regarding George RR Martin pushing back his next book - I kind of expected it though as he doesn't seem to work well with a deadline breathing down his neck.

  33. The cover to The Conspiring Woman looks really good, Greg. I'll have to find out more about it. The article at io9 is interesting. It's true though from what my husband says about the many, many books written it the Star Wars world bad things have already happened to Han, Leia and Luke. And apparently this group of movies also diverges from the books written! A different timeline maybe?

  34. It was great to be on break and unplug for a while but it's also good to get back to a routine. My house is finally quiet again! The Conspiring Woman caught my eye and that artwork from Donato Giancola is stunning!

  35. My New Year's was also low key. We just watched the countdown and I got very little reading done last week as we were out of town for 4 days visiting the grandbaby's. It nice to have everything back to normal.

  37. Happy new year Greg! We had a quiet evening on new years'eve as well, I prefer it that way. I still haven't seen the Star Wars movie, else I would've come and stop by your post next week. I hope you'll have a great week!

  38. I can't believe The 100 is about to be on season 3. I somehow fell off of watching that show, and I've been hearing good things about last season. I may have to catch up. I just started watching Broadchurch today so maybe after I make through that one.
