Okay so this has nothing to do with books but I was thinking about song lyrics and it occurred to me just how many songs are about sex. Or love, or both. Now the idea of love songs is of course nothing new but it's kind of amazing to me just how much we are listening to/ making music about love, in all its varieties. Then as I was thinking of lyrics I thought- were songs in the past more sexual? And that led me to think of some examples, which of course... I'm going to share.
So... thoughts. Is popular music now more about other things than just love and sex? Or is it still that way? What are your favorite songs about love or... you know?

I don't listen to a ton of new music, but I feel like maybe older music was about more than just love/sex? I mean, there was plenty of it, and I think most songs are about those two topics.

ReplyDeleteHaha, funny you should mention this. I was watching the Dio documentary over the weekend and someone interviewed remarked how he bucked the trends and wrote about things other than sex. It was such a thing with 80's metal especially.

ReplyDeleteGreat topic and song choices! I think older and newer songs are both probably mostly about love and sex. It's funny how many songs I used to sing along to as a kid without really understanding the lyrics and then listening to the lyrics properly as an adult and realizing what it was really about :)
