Sunday Post #479

Another good week. I posted a review for The Galaxy and the Ground Within. My readalong with LaLa and Cover to Cover is underway. We got snow. It looks like winter around here. The World Cup is underway. I have walking tours.

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

I wanted to post a Cover Love for Dune covers but didn't get the post up this past week. So here are a few I picked. I don't actually like Dune all that much but I do love the covers! Vincent DiFate did the first one and three and four as well- I just love the white robed figures, the buildings in the background, the stone face. Which one is your favorite?

  1. Before Thanksgiving seems too early for snow, but I know you MI people are more accustomed to that sort of weather than I am

  2. Are you cheering for anyone specific in the World Cup? My family is loyal to Italy but unfortunately they didn't qualify. Canada however, did so it'll be nice to rep the home team this year! Even if their odds don't look that great.

  4. Wow, snow already? It's cool(ish) here now but earlier in the week it was 80... so it's wild to hear about snow. Love the rainy night with jazz music. I use those YouTube videos often while working.

  5. I don't have snow yet (luckily, I guess). I started reading Dune a long time ago and gave up reading. Maybe it's time to come back to her.

  6. The sound of rain are so soothing! The dune book covers are something aren't they?

  7. The first 2 books were okay, but after that it lost the magic.

  8. A mi Dune me gusto pero si son pesados en especial desde el segundo libro. El ultimo me sorprendió. Buena música te mando un beso.

  9. I love the Dune covers! I'm in northern Montana right now, and there is snow everywhere, very Christmasy looking

  10. We haven't had snow yet, but it definitely felt like winter last night!

  11. I *still* haven't read the Dune series - I really must get around to it! Enjoy the snow - we have rain and more rain.

  12. Such lovely art work! Intrigued by that title Dig a Dead Doll! Oh, lots to do this weekend. I hope you have lots of time for some good TV watching and more. I on the other hand was too hasty with too to many Margaritas and hit the hay way too soon. So much to make up for the day, already. So behave yourself. I know I have too.

  13. I kind of like that last Dune cover. I've never read the book either. Hope you have a great weekend!

  14. I’ve been seeing a lot of snow your way! Stay safe and have a great weekend!

  15. I've never read Dune but I know so many people who love it and I love the cover art. It is cold here (for me) but I think I would cry if it snowed! I hope you have a wonderful week!

  16. We had snow twice now, but it melted within a couple of days thankfully. It's been around 60, sunny and beautiful the last few days. Would like some rain. We need it.

I've never read Dune or sat through the whole movie. I've seen bits and pieces of the version with Sting and I wasn't impressed. I heard the new one is good. Hope your snow melts quickly!

  17. Aww snow! Sounds... cold lol. I've never read Dune, but those are some nice covers!

  18. I like the second cover of Dune, I keep meaning to watch the movie but don’t seem to remember when I’m looking for something to watch.

Wishing you a great reading week

  19. I am so jealous of your snow every year! Lol. We get some but not as much as you all do. We have about an inch right now.

  20. You keep that snow up your way...lol. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

  21. I've seen some snow on some other blogs too, it seems crazy. Still, it's nice to actually get some - some years we don't get snow in Yorkshire, England. It's just rain :') The Dune covers do have some very good artwork, it's nice to see some good good art :) Sometimes I think the new cover artists get lazy lol. Have a great week!

  22. It's hard to believe winter is here😁 Yes, Dune has some amazing covers, great selection!

  23. I am very happy to report that it's finally spring to summer weather here with us. I will have to show all the DUNE covers to my hubby. I've never read it, or watched any adaptation.

Have a good week Greg and stay warm!

  25. Seeing all those Dune covers sure takes me back! I used to own the paperbacks with the original covers. For nostalgia's sake, I prefer the original cover to the first book, but I have to admit that the modern cover is very striking.

The weather here is still fall rather than winter, but it has dipped below freezing on one or two nights. Of course, high temperatures in the 40s are just as common for winter in Virginia as they are in late fall; the real difference is whether it's mostly 40s and and 50s (fall) or 30s and 40s (winter.)

Have a happy Thanksgiving, if you celebrate it!

  26. Enjoy the snow! I bought my husband the Dune box set with the newer covers. I've been waiting for him to start it but I may just start it before him.

  27. Hi Greg! Looks like you had a good week! Love the covers.

  28. I had the 2nd cover down when I tried (and failed) to read Dune and I would say it is my favorite out of the ones you posted.

We had snow last week but unfortunately it's supposed to warm up into the 50s this week. I guess the cat will be happy about it.

    Enjoy your World Cup watching!

  29. How exciting that you had snow over there! This weekend has been the first 'cold' weekend this season. But no snow unfortunately. It sure did rain though.
Have a great week and happy reading.

  30. Snow does sound early, but it's almost Thanksgiving. I love the Honey West and Dune covers. Hope you have a great week!

  31. There seems to be a lot of snow out there now. It's just cold here. I have the Dune paperbacks from maybe 40 years ago. I should revisit the series on audio. I don't remember everything. lol Happy Thanksgiving Greg!

  35. I have never been tempted to read Dune. I am not sure why. I tend to like the older covers. Nothing like the original.

  36. I am not ready for snow. Dune is one of my favorite books.
    Have a great week.

  37. It's cold enough to snow here, but none of the white stuff yet. I love snow in the late fall and winter, but I should type that quietly because most people I know don't feel the same way about that. :-)

  38. Yikes! I don't know if I could handle snow before Thanksgiving! I mean, yeah, I'd handle it. We had it when I lived in Boston. But, here it rarely snows before January. Last year, we got snow on December 26 (I made the kids run out in their Christmas pajamas so I could get a picture for this year's card!). Once, we got snow two days after Thanksgiving...which would have been only strange except it coincided with my brother's wedding. Half the guests couldn't make it to the church. The other half were all farmers and drove their tractors in.

  39. Enjoy the snow, I guess nice for Thanksgiving. Gives atmosphere - she says from one who never lives in snow!!

  40. Oh my. Dig a Dead Doll seems pretty racy for the times! I think my aunt (who isn't much older than I am) had the very first book cover when I was young. It looks very familiar anyway. So that brings back some memories. But I think I prefer the simplicity of the second one.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  41. Rain and jazz ambient music...I never considered looking up that specific combination, but it's really relaxing. Have a great week!

  42. It looks a lot like winter around here too. I'm supposed to go running, but it's 22 degrees right now. That's why I'm commenting on blogs and procrastinating. :)

  43. The Dune covers are cool. We had a dusting of snow here this past week and the temps have been cold also. Enjoy your reading this week! Happy Thanksgiving!

  44. I like Walking in the Rain. Enjoy your week!

  45. We have snow too. I'm already tired of it. I read Dune and didn't love it. I skipped all the sequels. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  46. I love the second and last cover art. Never read the books. Not a big sci fi person.

  47. I would take some snow. We get snow maybe once every 10 years. lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm taken with those Dune covers too - love that orange.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Those Dune covers are eye-catching with the vibrant orange colour. Can't choose a favourite. Each stands out in its own way.

  50. Jealous of your snow! Count me in as someone who likes Dune covers more than Dune!

  51. I've never read Dune, but I do love those covers, especially that second one!

  52. I love the original Dune covers that are on my paperback boxed set covers from the late '70s. 🤗

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🍽
