Sunday Post #477

This was a good week. I read a good book- The Last Gifts of the Universe - and it is now SciFi Month! You can find all the details here. I'll be doing a buddy read of Moon of the Crusted Snow with LaLa in the Library and Cover to Cover. And there's a readalong of Becky Chambers' The Galaxy, and the Ground Within. Details here. In other news I have a livestream of Halloween in Japan. And- is anyone watching One Of Us Is Lying Season 2? I'm thinking of doing a spoilery post or even a Discord server- that's how badly I want to discuss the show!

Oh and I posted a Cover Love this past week- below are some images of the cover art. I decided to post these to provide a bit more detail.

   Song of the week

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

Below is some Neal Adams cover art for Tarzan. Notice in this first one the blood dripping down his arm... the second close up image is wild too, if you look closely you can see mountains and terrain features curving upward in the background because in that book (Tarzan at the Earth's Core) he is... at the earth's core which is a hollow world - the horizon curves upward and over your head. Also... you can see the blood where's he's stabbing the pterodactyl if you look close.

  3. Oh, such a great Sunday post! So many cool books you have here. Looks like SciFi month is going by quick for you. Lots of good reads and reviews ahead! Well, we might have snow by next weekend. Some chilly weather this weekend too. But at least I won't have to fuss about getting to work. Thanks so much for the post and the music and more. Thank you for your comments too. Hope you are doing well.

  6. I keep forgetting to look to see where I can watch Fall! I want to see it really bad.

I enjoyed Convenience Store Woman but it made me mad because I have nowhere to buy all the yummy foods mentioned.

I would be watching One of Us is Lying if it was on one of the 20 million networks I subscribe to, but alas, it is not.

  9. Sounds like lots of good stuff coming up for sci-fi month. Seeing the massive crowds in Tokyo... eek. I think I'd have a meltdown surrounded by so many people. Not a fan. Love the ambience music. I listen to those at the office a lot.

  11. Am always amazed by pictures of the crowds in Tokyo. We've been to Japan several times but not to Tokyo, as yet....

  12. Buddy reads are fun. Sometimes I would do that with a former coworker. The lady in the red dress is running with her gun but her trigger finger is ot pointed straight so, could discharge accidentally :-) (That's from my firearms class :-)

  13. I would read you OOUIL post. I don't really watch TV, but after how the changes from the book in season one, I am curious to see what else they do with the books.

  17. Sounds like a fun buddy read. I added Moon of Crusted Snow to my list - I haven't read post-apocalyptic in a while and I'm overdue. Convenience Store Woman was definitely different - I'll look for your review.
Hope you find time to read a good book this week.

  21. I enjoy the YouTube ambiance clips and I put them on my tv most nights while I'm reading in bed. I really like the treehouse ones. Tokyo Halloween looks fun yet so crowded.
I like the vintage art you shared. Enjoy SciFi Month!

  27. I hope to read some SciFi this month. I'm reading a Chuck Wendig dystopian which is sort of, right now. We read the book One of Us is Lying for COYER book club and I liked it much more than expected. Did you read the book? Also where is the show aired?

  31. Every time I visit you I get reminded I have to watch One of Us is Lying, and then I forget, lol. I guess I should watch Fall too. I can't believe Tarzan fought werewolves too? At least that is what the picture looks like. Enjoy sci-fi month! Thanks for visiting my Sunday post at Lisa Loves Literature too!

  32. I like the Autumn Jazz at Coffee Shop Ambience! I will definitely play it while I'm correcting! Did you enjoy Convenience Store Woman? It started of my interest in Japanese books.

  33. Those Tarzan covers are all new to me. Thank you for sharing. I have heard of One Of Us Is Lying but haven´t seen the show. I can only watch free TV, the rest is way too expensive for my taste... Happy reading and happy watching!

  34. Happy SciFi month! I still need to watch One of Us is Lying, but if I ever get around to it, I'll definitely be interested in hearing your thoughts.

  35. I loved Moon of the Crusted Snow. Enjoy!

  36. Glad you had a good week, Greg! I may have mentioned this before, but Moon of the Crusted Snow is a top priority on my tbr. I will read any post-apocalyptic fiction that's by an Indigenous author. I'm studying that in school!

  37. OMG! Fall looks intense! I'm very afraid of heights. I'd be biting my nails through the whole thing. I hope it had a good ending. I would like to watch One of Us is Lying. More curious now. :)

  38. Nice to have a show you are really involved in, and want to discuss.

  39. I haven't watched One Of Us Is Lying, but I've heard a lot of great things about it. Also, I love the Jazz ambient music!

  43. I don't read a lot of Sci-Fi but I hope you have fun with it.

  44. Not a big sci fi fan but the tarzan art is pretty cool.

  45. Congratulations on finishing a book! I would love to celebrate sci fi month, but I'm already neck deep in Nonfiction November.

  46. Moon of the Crusted Snow is such a great book! I wish I had read it with others so I could have talked about it.

  47. How fun to see Halloween in Tokyo! I know Halloween used to be mostly an American thing so it's fun to see it spread and how it's celebrated around the world. I hope you're having a great week!

  48. The Last Gifts of the Universe reminds me of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Did you hear about Halloween in Seoul? Isn't it awful. Poor people.

  49. Liis is still waiting for her copy of Crusted Snow. Book Depository doesn't give European tracking information to customers in the US, which is stupid. šŸ˜›

I fear to watch the Tokyo Halloween video. Were they wearing face masks? The entertainment venues in our county are putting mask requirements on again. I have a feeling it's going to be a bumpy winter. šŸ˜

I love those Neal Adams covers! šŸ“š
