Sunday Post #215

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

So this week has been pretty nice. It's been mostly 70's so no complaints here. I like the cooler evenings and the bite in the air that tells me fall is here. The smell of smoke in the air... last week I was lamenting the loss of some of the October events I fondly remember, but I was happy this week to see that there are still quite a few things happening. I think October has to be one of my favorite months in the book blogosphere.

I am doing the Frightfall readathon all October long- you can get details here. It's been a while since I've done one of these, so why not? Plus it's super casual and relaxed too. The other thing coming up is Sci Fi Month, hosted by Rinn Reads and Over The Effing Rainbow. This takes place all November and should be awesome. You can check the schedule here to see what's coming up. There are different tabs so make sure you check 'em all out!

Last week I reviewed The Pack, which was pretty good. This week I'll be sharing my thoughts on The Shark Club, which I really liked. The Blackbird Season was a win for me as well. Oh and On The Run 15 is up Monday.

  1. I adore the pulp cover, and have a hard time imagining that paperback books were once just 35 cents. Chef Jim Smith from Top Chef fame is a serious Star Wars fan, and I'd bet he'd love those pics. I may steal one for Instagram. (smile) Glad you're enjoying the cooler weather. We start off here cool, then later in the day, we're blessed with more hot weather. We were waiting for September, then October, and now November! Happy weekend! Hugs...RO

    1. Isn't that awesome?? I love it- one of my recent favorites. And yes those Star Wars pics are pretty awesome- glad you like. :) We're definitely feeling the fall weather here, if only in the cooler mornings.

Oh and glad you like Iron Fist. I loved the comics as a kid...

  2. I fell in love with the Iron Fist on Netflix, and agree that hidden cities in snowy mountains are cool, and make you want to go visit. Hugs...RO

  3. It is still too warm here.We hit the 80's most days and just a bit chilly in the morning and evenings. I am ready for cooler weather. Cant wait to hear your thoughts on Shark Club Have a great week!

  4. Our weather has been stinky, I want those chilly days back again, now it's just hot and muggy. It's going to rain this week from Hurricane Nate so I hope that cools things off.

I want to play stranger things lol I haven't downloaded it yet but I have it on my wish list. :)

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  7. It seemed that fall was here too, but this weekend makes me have my doubts. We had to turn the air conditioner back on yesterday. :-( I hope you enjoy the readathon! It sounds like a lot of fun. I am glad to hear you enjoyed Blackbird Season. I am looking forward to that one.

It's going to a be a quiet day for us today. My daughter's temperature came back and so she missed her soccer game this morning. We'll be resting today.

I hope you have a great week, Greg.

    1. Had to turn the AC on here too, just to get some humidity out of air. It wasn't hot per se, but humid. And I really did like Blackbird Season- more than some, maybe, but I just loved the wry humor and narrative voice.

Aw sorry to hear about the soccer game! Hope she's feeling better, and that you have a fabulous weekend.

  8. Oh, I totally fell in love with those Star Wars posters! What a great find!! I also really enjoy October, but more in terms of weather. You still get some nice summery days and some fall days thrown into the mix. It's great outdoors walking weather. :)

    1. I did too. I saw them and I was like- mine. lol And agree about October- I like the mix of sunniness and cooler air, you;re right it's perfect for walking!

    1. Exactly. And I'm always like who's having a fire, since I can smell the smoke? But whoever it is they're just making the air smell good lol.

      You seeing Blade Runner ??

  10. I also love fall and I like that chill that's in the air now. And the leaves that turn colors.

Oh I'll have to look up your review for The Pack.

That gate sure looks imposing. That's neat it inspired you to write a bit.

    Have a great week!

    1. Me too. The Pack was fun- a YA shifters story, don't get a lot of those, and not a werewolf in sight! Ha ha all kinds of shifters.

      Thanks!!

  11. I have to agree about the weather, definitely no complaints from me either! It's been kind of perfect. I'm glad you're enjoying it too :D

So, that Swimming Pool book... doesn't look like things went great there, yikes. Glad that The Shark Club was a win- I put that right on my TBR after you shared the cover, didn't even care what it was about haha. Idk about The Blackbird Season though. I mean, how many birds are we talking? I look forward to your review so I know the level of bird. I see that a lot of my Goodreads friends like it so I am intrigued, pending bird news.

The book I am reading right now has tanks like the Immortality Experiment picture. Only they were not voluntary, and it was messed up. LOVE your writing for the Gate picture! You should do another story, because a cave of mystery coupled with drunken shenanigans? Yes please.

Love the Star Wars posters too! I have seen some other minimalist posters of movies and books and such, and I adore them. Good purchase choice hahah.

    1. I wish it would stay this way- oh for about six months lol. And yes, sadly, that does not seem to be a good weay to swim. You know, not moving face down and stuff. Sad. And The Shark Club WAS a win- maybe not my usual kind of read, but I loved the Florida setting the conservation angle and just the whole thing. As for The Blackbird, you know it's thousands of birds- but they just like die. Fall outta the sky. They don't so anything else, like fly around, they're not a huge part of the story? If that helps.

I love tanks like that! Not sure why lol but it looks sinister and science-y so- yeah. Not voluntery is tough tho. And thank you- I had to write something when I saw it. And then it got me thinking...

  17. The temperature seemed to change overnight as we moved from September into October! I'm ok with it as the house is warm...if still in a mess. We are hunting out spiders now so I can relax a bit. It looks like the mice have moved out though which is good news!

  18. I just heard about this readathon, but I don't think I'll be doing it. Cause I signed up for Dewey (what was I thinking, right??) Haha.
Yay for Scifi month! I've already started reading my scifi stuff in preparation, although having started the new Neal Stephenson, I don't know how I'll make it, cause it's such a hefty book.
    Lovely artwork as always!

  35. It feels like ages since I took part in a readathon, I do like them because of the no pressure aspect, but also because you get to meet so many new bloggers too! I was going to say it's a shame, that I don't like scary books, but I like the different take on this readathon, in that I can read whatever genre I want after! Thanks for the heads up Greg! 37. 70s sounds lovely. It's back in the 80s here — and humid. Oh, well, it should cool off by the end of October.

I always think I should try doing SciFi Month, but I never seem to. I read fantasy much more than SF, so I'm not sure I'd have enough books to qualify.

I love the minimalist Star Wars posters. I would think about getting a few if I had any wall space left, but it's mostly taken up by bookshelves or artwork already.
