Sunday Post #90

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

This week went by quick. I didn't get a lot of reading but I did see the new Avengers movie- my thoughts on that will be up on Tuesday. I seem to be getting my reading mojo back. I've got some books I'm looking forward to again, after a bit of a lull.

Reviews this week included Kalahari, a good YA science fiction story.

I saw Ex Machina last week too- that movie was kind of a trip. I'll try to get my thoughts on that this week as well.

I hope everyone is having a good week

Ciao Amalfi on why it can be good to get lost in Amalfi

Books, Movies, Reviews! Oh My reviews a fun sounding cozy- Murder in the Mystery Suite.

  4. Just looked up Ex-machina's trailer, it looks interesting, I hope the movie keeps its promises :) I'm afraid it shows my age but to me, The avengers are John Steed and Emma Peel, not comics, lol ! Have a good week and tell us about the Tessa Arlen when you're finished, please ;)

  5. I'm pretty excited to see both of the movies you mentioned. I'll keep an eye out for your review of Ex_Machina. I've not read a whole lot on the issues with the Avenger movie (which I loved) but what I have read I both understood and also disagreed with. Interesting article though!

  13. Keen to hear what you thought of the Avengers movie. I haven't seen any and probably won't see it, but I've seen the fuss around Joss Whedon and the Black Widow. He made a speech at an equality for women function a few years ago about 'why he creates strong female characters' so I find it hard to believe he'd be misogynistic in this case. I wondered if it was cos a lot of people didn't like where he took the character?

    1. I think that's exactly what it is. I saw it and don't think he's a misogynist- he has said he "Gets" Black Widow most of all the characters, so it's probably particularly hurtful to him to have people bitching about... BW. I didn't like where he took the character but that's just a creative difference... I don't think he's misogynistic. I do get some of the criticism tho, and the merchandise issue doesn't help... no BW merch but the other are all represented. Someone's a little tone deaf... :)

    1. I think it was a miniseries, if I remember right. I saw part of it. I only read the books recently but always liked the artwork. I think the first book is the best, and really has a nice sense of wonder. I think you would enjoy it- it's a flight of fancy but again the artwork is gorgeous.

    2. The cover alone males me think Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman might be up my alley, and the blurb confirms it. Will keep an eye out for your thoughts. Hope your week is off to a good start!

  18. I can't read the Black Widow article yet, but I do feel bad for the flak Joss is getting. I haven't seen the movie yet but it seems that the problems lie with his and the executives differences...and ultimately their failure to come to a full fledged compromise. But we shall see! I know I'll enjoy it, I'm just curious to see how much.

I'll try to come back and check out your movie review after I've watched it on Wednesday

    1. I think you're right- there was obviously a lot of behind the scenes strife in the making of that movie. I hope you like it- it is fun even if there are things about it I didn't like.

  20. My son loved the Dinotopia books. I don't know if he read all of them before he aged out, but he read as many as were out before that. I read the first one with him and really liked it. Seeing that I am catching up on my tbr stack, I should add some Dinotopia to it. I have the Tommorrowland trailer bookmarked. Thanks for posting it. I am a little late making my Sunday Post rounds. I hope you had a wonderful week and thanks for dropping by my blog. :)
