Sunday Post #64 October, readathons and blustery winds

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

October is here! I finished Insurgent this week as well as Blackbird, a good story about a girl on the run who doesn't know who she is. It's a contemporary thriller and I liked it- review to come Tuesday. Fall is here... but kinda perfect for October, if you ask me.

The Frightfall readathon has been going all week and I've done pretty good with my goals- I finished Blackbird and still have to finish And Then There Were None. The weather seems like a good accompaniment to this kind of reading! I'm also looking forward a little bit. There are some nice holiday radathons and I'm looking forward to some holiday cheer. Are you participating in any of the readathons or holiday stuff?

    1. I liked Blackbird, although the ending left me wanting more.. which I'm sure is the authors' intent. :) It's not perfect but I thought it was good, and fast paced. A good story.

  2. It is too bad we did not ease into fall, it came with roaring winds and rain. I picked up Blackbird after reading the author's article about why she wrote it in the POV that she did. Glad you enjoyed it. Getting Even is on my TBR list. Have a great week.

  3. The weather sounds perfect for the books you are reading. It's been cool and rainy here, I've been drinking cocoa.

Murder at Brightwell looks like one I'd enjoy. Happy reading!

  4. As much as I enjoy warm (but not too hot!) weather, cooler air and wind is perfect for October. Some of the leaves have started turning here, but most haven't.

  8. Fall's arriving here as well, although we had some mild days this week as well. And yesterday when we went grocery shopping the weather was okay and as soon as we got home it started storming, nice timing! I haven't signed-up for any readahtons or holdiday stuff. I did sign-up for two challenges in November, the sci-fi month just like you and Anna's blog ahead challenge.

    1. Yay for fall. although I may regret that with allthe cold weather coming... I think that sci fi challenger will be fun, this will be my first time with that one.

  12. We fell into the 40s last night, too, but that's a bit too chilly for this time of year around here. Excellent weather for bonfires, hot chocolate and chili though. :D

  16. I'm looking forward to your Blackbird review! I need something different (I need to mix up my genres). I wish it was cooler weather here. It's still in the high 90's so I can't wait for it to get colder. Have a great week!

    1. I tend to mix things up a lot, I'll read YA then a mystery it's whatever appeals to me at the moment. :) Makes it harder to niche my blog probably, but that's OK. Blackbord should be up Tuesday (short version: I liked it). It's a fast, quick read (only about 245 pages) but good.

I wouldn't like high 90's in October, I like the cool off although I have to say wearing summer clothes this time of year would be kind of nice.

    1. You're not alone, as I'm sure you know the POV seems to have been an issue for many reviewers. I was nervous about it, not sure it would work for me, but maybe knowing that going in made me more tolerant of it. It certainly is not a POV choice I would want to see a lot. Thank you for visiting!

  21. 40s, brrrrr! Fall has certainly arrived where you are! We've been enjoying cooler temperatures, too, but not that cool. It was a glorious weekend here - blue skies and temperatures around 68-70. It was 40 when I got up this morning, though.

Good luck with your readathon; it sounds like you're doing well so far. Is this your first time reading And Then There Were None? I can't wait to read your reaction! Murder at Brightwell looks good - and it's blurbed by Deborah Crombie, which is a definite plus. I'll have to put that one on my TBR list.

    Happy reading!

    1. Hi Lark! I like your temps, even though I enjoy the blusteyr weather I have to say 70ish sound good. This is my first time with And Then There Were None (embarassed to say)- I read some Christie as a kid but it's been many years. I figured this would be a good one for the readathon.

I think Murder at brightwell looks good as well, and I ma ybe moving that one up a bit as I want to read it soon. Have high hopes for it!

  24. I really enjoyed the 13 Secrets review. I'm planning on picking up that series soon. I enjoyed The Moment of Everything and how have I never seen Murder at the Brightwell before?? It's so me it really should just show up at my house. Murder mystery, 1930s setting, Christie comparison and a blurb by Deborah Crombie? Cannot resist! I'm really curious about Blackbird as the reviews have been all over the map with it. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it. Have a great week!

    1. Thank you, I hope you enjoy them. I was very fond of those books. As for Brightwell, I know! I think I saw it blog hopping a week or so ago and decided I needed to read it. Love that cover! It doe sound quite good.

Blackbird is funny, revies have been mixed, the POV choice has been polarizing it seems, but I was OK with it. a good read, action packed and it's not real long so you can get through it quick. I liked it.

  25. 13 Secrets is the one book I haven't gotten my hands on in that trilogy yet. I enjoyed the first two. Great review.

I was not a fan of Blackbird. That second person just didn't work very well for me. Glad you enjoyed it, though.

Here's my Monday post, if you wanna come see what I'm up to: http://proudbooknerd.com/2014/10/05/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-8/ (No pressure, though, of course).

    1. I think you'll like the last one if you liked the first ones. It wraps the story up nicely I thought.

I can see why Blackbird wouldn't work for some- that POV choice is interesting and not one I would be crazy about all the time. Thank you for visiting!

    2. I definitely have to get my hands on 13 Secrets! So many books to read, so little time ...

I can handle second-person in short stories. Full novels, it's too much for me. I really appreciated the few chapters in Blackbird that were NOT if second person! ;)

  26. I suppose I better prepare for cold as we are planning a trip up north later this month. Evenings in the 60s is beautiful now.
I'm looking forward to both your upcoming reviews. :-) Blackbird looks interesting. The 13 Secrets Trilogy sounds like something I would enjoy.
Hope you have a good week.

  28. Eek cold already, that does not bode well. I think we could be in for a stinking summer, it's spring and we've had a week of temps in 30's (90+)
I'm curious about Get Even and The Moment of Everything is on my wishlist. Have a great week and happy reading :)
