Sunday Post #173

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This week has been cold! It looks like December is going to stay mostly white. It's been snowing on and off all week and temps have been in the 20's. Looks like it's going to stay this way too- they're saying snow next week. I live in the wrong state.

I did some challenge signups this week- I'm doing the Cloak & Dagger challenge and the Dystopian challenge as well as Pick Your genre. Three should be good. I didn't do challenges in '16 so I figured it was time.

In other news... Rogue One is out! Or will be when this goes live. I probably won't see it right away but hopefully this week sometime. I've heard good things. And I'm trying to avoid spoilers since I've heard there are some surprises. Has anyone seen it?

Last week I reviewed Weregirl and asked Do You Judge A Book By The Cover? I also finished up A Closed and Common Orbit . That review will be up on Thursday.

  3. I haven't had the chance to watch The 100 yet but it looks interesting so I'll get to it at some point. I still haven't seen the last Star Wars film but then I haven't been watching many films in the last year or two. Need to find more time for that next year...Have a good reading week!

    1. You too! I highly recommend The 100 although I always say you have to get past the first few episodes before the show really develops into a good SF show. And I wasn't crazy about the last Star Wars film, although I'm super hyped for Rogue One! We'll see if it delivers...

  5. I took most of the day off yesterday intending to go and see Rogue One but I decided I had too many things to do before bad weather hit, namely grocery shopping so I can do my holiday baking. I ended up buying the novelization of the movie and I will read that instead. I still may see the movie later or wait till it is on DVD. Not like me at all. I think it is because I'm worried the movie will be sad and depressing. Not what I'd want to watch right now.

We got snow but we also got ice. I was supposed to work today but had traded Saturdays with a coworker so I'm relieved I get to stay home and not brave the slick roads. It is supposed to warm up and hopefully the snow and ice will all melt.

    1. I have heard there it's a dark movie at times or so the reviews say. I can't wait to see it, but I'm curious about the novelization. I remember reading the novelization of the first movie and it was just different enough that it was quite unique. In fact I still remember it fondly. I do hope Jyn Erso and her message of hope keep it from being too dark.

Glad you got to hang at home, I stayed home today too and it was nice. Too much snow and ice. :)

  6. I'm not a Star Wars fan but have been hearing good things about Rogue One. (Nothing too bad yet!)

Oh and I need to check if Netflix has added The 100 (season 3) to their playlist here in Australia!!!

PS. It was summer in New Zealand but only about 20C during the day which was lovely and about 10-15C lower than in my part of Australia!

    1. I've been hearing good things too. And I hope you get S3 of The 100- although to be honest S3 wasn't great for me. Still even when I'm not enjoying the episodes I still like the show- I guess I'm into the characters enough now.

That sounds very comfortable, I'd take those temps right now especially the 20C. Sounds just about right.

  7. I didn't think I had missed that many of your posts last week. Yikes! I will swing back around to read them. It has been awful weatherwise here to. Ugh. I can play the Linus and Lucy Theme and I haven't mentioned it to anyone years because in December if there is a piano nearby; be it in a home or a bar, I will be asked to play it. Ha ha. I noticed last year that people were beginning to forget, so if I keep my mouth shut for another ten years maybe no one will ever ask again! I am excited to read your review of A Closed and Common Orbit. Have a wonderful week. :)

  12. You're gonna hate me when you read what I said about the weather in my post lol. But I guess it probably feels festive to have a white Christmas.

Three challenges seems like a good amount, a nice low number so you won't get stressed but can still have some fun with them.

I'm excited for tomorrow's best covers posts, but mine may have gotten a bit out of hand, haha.

Yay, you're going to read Starflight! Can't wait to see what you think :-) Oh, and I'm liking this song!

    1. Ha ha I might hate you if you have 80's on Christmas! It's freaking cold here! Like a deep freeze zone- snow everywhere. So enjoy your nice weather. :P But yeah the only good thing about it is it does feel kinda festive with snow on the ground. Still... :)

I figured 3 challenges. the thing is it sounds good now but by mid year or whenever I get tired of keeping track I'll be like why the frick did I sign up for challenges???

Can't wait to see your covers... did you go a little overboard ha ha? I stopped at 11...

I'm pumped for Starflight, after finishing off The Long Way and its sequel I'm like in SF mode so it seems like a natural next read lol. Glad you like the song. :)

  23. Me and bf are thinking of going to Rogue One (and Assassin's Creed). They say Rogue One is really good. Pretty curious. When are you going to go?

You've already finished A closed and common orbit? Well then I'm staying away from potential spoilers :D I should be getting that book for Christmas. So still a way to go :)

And you have some really nice posters there. Where do you find these? Or the time to find them xD

As for my week, I went blues dancing and catching up with some friends, me and bf also hosted a three course all-Italian dinner on friday to some friends (where he cooked and I cleaned EVERYTHING, oh god), and I also got an oil burn on MY ACTUAL EYELID from some fried eggs that went crazy on me. Burn blisters on eyes suck. Don't try them :D they don't look too good either.

Oh by the way, I recall you might not be getting notifications of comments replies on my post, so I'm just going to manually tell you that I replied your comment on my book awards post :D

The Cloak and Dagger Challenge sounds so fun. Good luck with your challenges!

I look forward to your thoughts on Rogue One, Greg. A friend saw it the day it was released and was glad she didn't have to hold in talking about it for long since I saw it on Saturday. I really liked it. We watched Episode IV last night--we couldn't help ourselves. It had a slightly different feel to it after seeing Rogue One--more urgency, if you will. Anyway, I don't want to spoil it for you.

  43. You're going to think I'm nuts, but I wish I were in your state! It doesn't feel like Christmas here in Miami AT ALL. Of course, we never have snow down here (and I've never experienced it, either), but c'mon, why does it have to be in the 80s at this time of year?

I went to the movies with my husband last night, and we saw "Rogue One". Well.....let's just say I wasn't impressed at all. I remember watching the original Star Wars trilogy, which I GREATLY enjoyed. I haven't seen any of the other films in the series. I did like seeing a female protagonist kicking some butt, but she didn't get to do quite enough of that, IMHO. That's all I'm going to say on the matter. Hubby didn't like it, either. Hope you enjoy it, though! Everyone's different, so you very well might like it. May the Force be with you!! :)

LOVE those vintage travel posters! My favorite is the Morro Bay poster. That would look VERY cool in my kitchen, I think! I also like Steve Thomas's idea of Star Wars travel posters. VERY coooool!!!!

I've been wanting to read "Starflight", which is on my TBR. Looking forward to your review!!

Good luck on the reading challenges! I need to get into at least one this coming year. Will probably try out a fantasy one I saw on a blog the other day.

LOVE that Charlie Brown Christmas video!!

Good to know about Rogue One! I've seen people that loved it and others like you who have said it wasn't that great. I'm looking forward to it but I'm aware I may be too hyped- I need to keep my expectations in check. :)

Steve Thomas has a ton of cool art, and there is so much of that vintage travel style stuff out there. You can find a lot of it on Pinterest. And I'm looking forward to Starflight too!

  44. I envy you, the last couple of years we don't get snow anymore T_T Plus it's not that cold either here, it feels just like Autumn.

    1. I could do without the cold (and snow) but at the same time the snow does make it festive! Sorry you haven't had any! You can have some of ours lol we currently have an excessive amount. :)

  45. I do think snow is pretty, although it's a pain if you have to go anywhere. I am only joining two challenges this year, the Cloak and Dagger one sounded promising, maybe I'll joint hat in 2018 ;).
I hope you'll enjoy Rogue One, I haven't seen it, but probably will eventually. Not really in a hurry to see it.
How was Starflight? I am curious about that one and was debating whether to order it or not.
I like that picture with the large dino's. I hope you'll have a great week!

    1. I like snow ( a little) but this week I could barely get down the road so it was perhaps a bit too much lol. I'm anxious for Rogue One but I hear good and mixed things so who knows if I'll like it?? I haven't read Starflight yet but I'm thinking it might be my first review of the new year, so I need to read it- quick!

  47. I love all the scenic photos. Did Cover Characteristics pick up again, or are you doing them on your own?

    1. CC is on hiatus and I haven't heard anything lately, but I've been doing my own topics. :) Kristen over at Metaphors and Moonlight has been doing it too.

  48. There are some awesome posters up there! I need to finish reading Weregirl, I started it, and it was okay, but didn't grab me as much as I'd hoped. But it is still good enough I'd like to get back to it. Thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post at Lisa Loves Literature earlier!

  49. Ooh, did you like Starflight? I LOVED THAT BOOK. So hilarious and exciting. Like Guardians of the Galaxy but in a YA book. #winning šŸ˜‚ And yay for snow! I've never seen snow but it's on my bucket list. ;D

  51. LOVE that Coruscant Nightlife image ♥ Wow! I saw Rogue One over the Holidays and thought it was solid. I definitely didn't have as many issues with it as I did with TFA...although I have grown to enjoy that one a bit more as I rewatch it.
