Top Ten Book to Movie Adaptations

This weeks Top Ten is... Top 10 Book to Movie Adaptations. Mine are a mixture of favorites and one or two I have not seen yet, but will... at some point. Hopefully. Soon...

1) The avengers. Simply because if you had told me as a kid buying Avengers comics at 7-11 that today Avengers would be a billion dollar franchise...

2) Divergent- I like the movies (probably more than I like the books...)

3) Lord of the Rings- while the movies weren't perfect they were pretty darn good (except for the 2nd one, not super fond of Two Towers)

4) The Narnia movies- not great, but decent (the first one, anyway).

5) 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea- I wasn't crazy about the book, but the movie is a classic.

6) Captain America- see Avengers above.

7) The Hobbit movies- I have not seen any of them yet (I know), and 3 movies, seriously?- I do want to see them.

8) Sense and Sensibility- I have never read Austen, but I'm fond of this movie. Great cast.

9) The Birds- this is a classic movie. I like this scene- especially at the end when the birds are all wheeling above, looking down at the destruction.

10) The Bourn movies.

  1. Oh, good choices, and I've actually seen most of them. I've seen the first live action Hobbit movie (there was an animated version) but not the last two, someday. So unnecessary to chop it up into three movies. :( I didn't realize The Birds was based on a book. As a kid, I never would have believed that any super hero comic would be a successful movie but now there are so many!

I liked the Harry Potter movies, a few I liked better than the books. The Black Stallion was a decent adaptation. So many books have been turned into movies. :)

    1. I haven't seen any of the Hobbit movies yet. Surprisingly since I'm fond of the story, although the changes and Legolas nonsense have cooled my enthusiasm a bit. Agree, 3 movies? Good grief get a grip. I didn't know Birds was based on a book either for the longest time, I found that out blogging. I know what you mean, all those comics I read as a kid, who knew they'd be making blockbuster movies out of them? All the cool stuff so wasn't back then... :)

The Black Stallion- wish I would have thought of that. that movie made a big impact on me as a kid.

  2. Nice list!! I forgot to add The Book Thief to my list this week too as I have to read this book or watch the movie adaptation.

  3. I love the Avengers movies. :-) Have you seen the new Supergirl television show? I was worried, but it's actually pretty good. I think anyway. And I love the Captain America movies. He's my favorite.

(I like the Divergent films better than the books too.)

I loved the Lord of the Rings movies and I love the books. They were so beautifully done. The second one was probably my least favorite of the three, but I still liked it. I'll be curious to know what you think of The Hobbit movies when you get to them. I liked them, but not nearly as much as The Lord of the Rings movies.

Bourne Identity is one of my all time favorite movies. I haven't yet read the book, but I want to.

    Great list!

    1. I like cap too, I was a little leery using comics (I guess they're books) but couldn't resist! :) Yay for someone else who likes the Divergent movies better. I think they're pretty well done, and so many movies disappoint me lately, and those entertained me.

I love the bourne movies, and am super excited for the fourth one enxt year. I guess the books are totally different, so I won't read those, but the movies... yeah!

  5. I have seen The Hobbit and yep three films is far too much, two films was pushing it, yes they look good but I think they where milking it a little!

I agree with you about the Two Towers, I love them though, I still remember my excitement at seeing them and the fact that the cinema was packed, I didn't feel like a lonely geek anymore!

  6. I have tried multiple times to read LOTR. Just couldn't get into them at all. Love the movies, I have the extended versions of the trilogy. I have read The Hobbit, and hate those movies because it didn't need to be a trilogy. And the dwarves looked nothing like how they were described in the books. Most of them didn't have beards and in Tolkien's books beards and dwarves are kind of synonymous.

If that last book of the Divergent trilogy hadn't been such a disappointment and angered me beyond all reason, I might have checked out the movies.

I am a big fan of the Marvel movies, but since I don't read comic books, I didn't think about putting the Deadpool movie on my list. Even though I am really looking forward to that movie. I heard that if Marvel gets the rights back for The Hulk, we'll get a new Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo. Which I can only hope will be better than the first two.

  7. I love Blade Runner. It's one of my all-time favorite films. The book was pretty good, too. I've read 1 1/2 of the Bourne books, but prefer the films. The films are vastly different from the books. For some reason, I just couldn't get into them.

  8. I like the Narnia movies too, but I grew up watching the BBC versions. They are so campy, but I really loved them as a kid!

  9. I loved the Divergent books, but I will not see the movies because I absolutely hated the casting for Four. I was told that if I had read the book for The Golden Compass I would not have liked the movie, but I am almost finished with the book now and don't really understand why people were saying that. I did not read The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but saw the movies. I have read The Hobbit, but didn't see the movies. Lol.

  10. From The Hobbit movies I prefer the first one. They added things and characters to the story so I feel a bit mixed. I enjoyed the Narnia movies for the most part, but I saw them before I read the books.

  11. I have to admit I didn't realize The Birds was a book....!! The Hobbit movies were a major disappointment, especially because I loved the original LOTR trilogy so much. Have a great week!

  12. I love The Lord of the Rings movies and the book. Hobbit book is fantastic but movies were not as good. I think they should have made just two films and left out the extra stuff.

I love Sense and Sensibility. I watched the movie then read the book. Hope you give the book a chance someday.
