Sunday Post #186

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

It's the weekend! It's been cold all week and I want March back. We even got a bit of snow early in the week. What madness is this? Kind of a busy week too although I got some reading done- I finished Starfall by Melissa Landers and am now reading The Wanderers (finally). Next up is the new School for Unusual Girls book Refuge for Masterminds- thanks to Kathleen Baldwin for the ARC! Oh and today is St. Patrick's Day (as I write this) Did you do anything green?

This week I discussed urban fantasy and what creatures I'd like to see more of, so stop by and share your thoughts if you want. Are there underrepresented  critters you'd like to see? And I saw the movie Arrival this week and thought it was the best movie I've seen in a while.

Last week I reviewed The Rains and this week will be The Winter Over.  Reviews for Starfall and maybe Queens of Geek are on the way.

  1. Congrats on getting those books! Hope you enjoy :)
I LOVE THE COLD. Wish it was cold here!
I love that last picture; so haunting and inspiring for a writer mind ;) Thanks for sharing!

  2. Queens of Geek! Will be curious about that one :)

  3. Our weather was a bit mixed this week-hottish on Monday, freezing on Tuesday! I don't think it knows what to do with itself as the rest of the week was mild. If I ever get back to watching films I plan to look at Arrival but at the moment my TV world is watching my Gold Rush dvds!

  4. This weather has been crazy! We had a sudden cold spell and now it's beautiful again. I'm ready for it to even out!!

  5. I wanted one big snow this year, but it hasn't happened so let's move on to spring so I'm (hopefully) not freezing all the time! haha Hope you enjoyed Queens of Geek. I'm curious about that one!

  7. Ah, you beat me to Starfall! How was it? I've not read it yet, but Hoopla already has it, so I'll get to it at some point. That's awesome that the movie you saw was so good! I have to admit that I don't even know what it's about though lol. I don't even know what movies are out anymore since I'm not a big movie person and don't watch TV to see many trailers.

I didn't do anything green for St. Patty's. I didn't even so much as eat broccoli lol. Oops.

  8. It's been nice a warm here, so neener neener neener. :P I liked Arrival too. It was kind of slow, but still held my attention. Okay, hope it warms up for you and you have a great week.

  9. I can't wait for spring! We had more of the white stuff and a threat of freezing rain. I was worried about my drive home on Friday night after my library's St. Patrick's Day concert but thankfully it was just warm enough that the rain didn't freeze.

I have Starfall on my TBR pile and I'm a little worried that I won't like it. I've read some negative or mixed reviews and also Cassia and Kane were not my favorite characters. We shall see. I am excited to read A Refuge for Masterminds when it is released later this year. Hope you enjoy it and have a great week!

  10. It got down into the 30's here in Florida this week! That is not okay for this time of year! I totally spaced on St. Patty's Day this year. My cabbage wasn't ready to harvest so I didn't do my usual corned beef & cabbage soup.
I'm interested in seeing what you thought of Starfall. I need to read more sci-fi!
I hope you have a great week, Greg! :)

  11. I am going a bit crazy with this sudden winter too! It was so springlike - then bam! I need to get to the second book in the Baldwin series - I am feeling that genre right now, so it might be sooner than later!

  12. At this point I don't even want to talk about the weather. We had a winters worth in one day...ONE DAY! It better start becoming spring or I'm going to be angry. ;)

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  13. We have complete spring these days, it's nice and warm, flowers are budding, the grass is green and lush, and there's pollen everywhere o.O
The art you shared is gorgeous! I especially love the one with the big moon, sand and water, very nicely done.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  14. Snow? That's craziness! It was vaguely chilly here but nothing like snow worthy cold. We didn't do anything St. Patrick's day here because we were out of town but I'm planning on making up for it this week. There's a few things I always make for St Patrick's Day that I'd hate to miss out on!

  15. A friend posted photos from her backyard on FB last week with all the snow she got. It's crazy. I hope your temperatures warm up soon. I would love to send you some of our warm weather and sunshine. I hope you have a great week, Greg. I hope not to be such a stranger now that things have settled down some. At least I hope they have. :-)

  16. Looks like you got some good reading done this past week. I look forward to your review of Starfall.

  17. Woke up to 39 degrees here in Florida last week, which was totally weird for this time of year, lol. Since everyone in the family was busy on St. Patrick's Day, we had our corned beef and cabbage yesterday. :D

  18. I am super curious what you are going to think of The Wanderers. We had three feet of snow and it is still cold here, so it won't feel at all like the first day of spring. Ugh. Thanks for the art. Have a wonderful week. :)

  19. Humans!! I still need to catch up on season 2 but it's a great show. Love that artwork of Esgaroth. Have a great week!

  20. Those pics you find are always so lovely!

I am looking forward to see what you think of Starfall, I think the library might have it

  21. This year St Patrick's just kind of came and went - nothing special really happened which is kind of unusual here and noone really made a big deal? Oh well. Maybe we'll have better 'Luck o' The Irish' next year!

That last pic of the big trees is super eerie - I love it!

I hope you have a good week and I'm looking forward to a couple of those reviews!

  22. Enjoy your new books! Great images, and I am so loving Big Little Lies.

I also spent most of the weekend binge-watching Scandal.

Enjoy your week, and here are

  23. That sounds like a good line up of books; you are disciplined to have them already in order and ready for reading. Most of the time I like to randomly pick the next read myself. I found a library book and a hold came in so I have plenty right now and lots of reading to do. I didn't see you listed on Kathryn's Monday post. I hope all is well today for you and you're just busy with work. Thanks for stopping by last week.

  24. It's been a tad bit warmer here and we have had a couple of nice days, but still had heaps of pouring rain and more on the way for this week. I don' think it will ever stop. I have been back reading UF and loving it.

Ooh, Refuge for Masterminds looks awesome, can't wait to see your thoughts on it! Happy reading!

  26. We had snow this weekend but it melted by the end of the day. Like the moon shot at the end. Also, really like the cover for Refuge for Masterminds

  27. Humm, I guess I'd better but Arrival on my list. I love the art labeled "Esgaroth 'Laketown.' " Let's hope the snow melts soon. :)

  30. Enjoy your books. I'm joining up in the fun again and I'm hoping you'll stop by to my new domain.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

  31. I feel like you cannot complain about snow unless you were involved in snowpocalypse. Which was not fun. There was over 2 FEET of snow. In March. No one approved that! (I am totally kidding, you CAN complain about snow, but be glad it wasn't the snowpocalypse, of which I am still trying to dig out of!) Also, I like the song of the week! I LOVED the "Complicit" sketch. Because YES. And that applies to literally anyone allowing this bullshit to happen, basically. I heard great things about Queens of Geek lately too, so hopefully you like/liked it! And Starfall, I looove that cover.

  32. Noooooo no more cold, no more winter, no more snow! The calendar says it's spring, so hurry up and show yourself, snow!!! ;-)
