Sunday Post #103

This week started hot and muggy but was in the 70's for the rest of the week, which was nice. We've had a good summer here in Michigan for the most part. I started Arrow and have been all over Netflix  this week- binge watching both that and The 100. I'm also checking out Humans on AMC - love the premise of that show. On the blog I reviewed All We Have Is Now and The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty- I like her writing a lot. I also had another Bookcover Spotlight (one of my favorite cover from last year).

This week I got Murder in the Paperback Parlor and my thoughts will be up on Tuesday. A fun read and this author keeps delivering. I've read several of her books now and they're all winners.

Murder in the Paperback Parlor

I've been thinking of this for a while, and decided to do a re- read of A Dance With Dragons- the fifth book in the Game of Thrones. It's been a few years since I read it, and since I suspect The Winds of Winter is coming next year, I want to be sharp with the details when it arrives. So much happens in this book that it's easy to miss stuff. If anyone is interested in reading along- I'm thinking a chapter a week- let me know! I'd love to compare notes.

This week's up north pics.

BOOKISH NEWS

Not a lot of bookish news this week again, but as usual I have some up north news to share. I've talked a lot about Sleeping Bear Dunes and northern Michigan lately, but this past Sunday some big storms rolled through and did a lot of damage. You can see pics and stories here.

And this is a cool video that shows one of the most beautiful areas.

  1. Wow, I hadn't heard about the store offering refunds for that book. I have mixed feelings about that, it really seems like their own personal marketing ply, but it's good they're standing behind their slogan of only selling brilliant books, whatever those may be.

Our week started hot and humid then cooled down, yesterday actually felt like an early autumn day!

I've never read GRR Martin and probably won't as his books don't appeal to me but a read-a-long sounds like a fun idea. I hope you enjoy your e-read.

Still loving the 'up north' pics. I adore the one - is it of a shopping village - with the trees and flowers in the walkway. So quaint and just stunning!

  8. Nice haul, the incident on the bridge has me curious. Such a shame about the damage, mother nature can be brutal. Our weather is all over the place from brutally muggy to picturesque. Have a lovely week and keep binging. .my son loves Arrow

  12. I don't like when my summer get's under 80 degrees! it reminds me "Winter is Coming" :) I watched about two episodes of Human but didn't continue. Didn't like the acting. The premise is indeed very good though so you may enjoy it! I heard so much about "All We Have Is Now" I hope I can get to it too. Great review btw!

  13. Your pics are beautiful, it looks really idyllic.

I am working my way through Humans, the actors have all appeared in comedy roles on British TV so it is strange to see them playing serious characters, I am enjoying it though.

    Have a good week.

  26. My neighbors were up camping in Glen Arbor and got to see the excitement first hand!!! It seems like August is the month the entire thumb area heads over there to vacation; all my neighbors have been gonzo!!! You guys just seem to get nailed with bad weather worse than us :(

  27. Humans has been a really good show so far. We don't ever watch tv of substance unless it's something like Walking Dead, so I'm really glad we just happened to stumble upon it on the premiere. I wish I was on Dance of Dragons, I would read it with you. I'm currently on Feast of Crows, but I haven't read from it in weeks.

  28. I think I mentioned last week my family always goes up to Beulah/Honor every summer. My stepmom was actually up there for the big storm! She weathered it safely, but said it is a horrible mess up there. :( I have friends who live in Traverse City as well, their house was hit by a tree, but everyone was safe.

    The Blue looks really good!

  32. Hi Greg,
Is Arrow any good? I've heard a bit about it (seems very popular) but people seem to say it's not worth watching... I think it looks pretty cool though so I'm unsure whether to try it out or not!
Beautiful photos! I love the one with the pink flowers :D I adore growing flowers so I guess I was rather drawn to it, lol.
    Have a great week!

  33. It is Wednesday already! Where has the week gone/ I hope you are having the beautiful temps in the mid 70s we are having here today. I feel like I can conquer the world, lol. One of the things I am going to tackle when I am fully retired, in about four years, are the Game of Throne books. I will remain on the lookout for your A Sliver of Stardust review. I hope you are having a wonderful week. :)
