Sunday Post #102

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This week was another great week weather- wise. Sun every day, but it's hot now. We're in the home stretch of summer and it's flying by- hard to believe we're in August now. This week I reviewed Caught Read Handed (fun cozy), did a couple of memes and another Bookcover Spotlight. I'm still binging on The 100 and am thinking of trying AMC's show Humans. Is anyone watching it?

Next week I have reviews in the wings for All We Have Is Now and The Husband's Secret.

Here are some more "up north" pics.

BOOKISH NEWS

Not a lot of bookish news this week again, but some "up north" links.

Here's another view of the Suttons Bay Flotilla I mentioned last week.

MyNorth.com has a piece (and a nice video ) of the Sleeping Bear Dune climb and trail. And a nice video of a kayaking trip as well.

This week's recipe from Brys Vineyard is Grilled Chicken with Sun Dried Tomatoes, Goat Cheese and Basil Butter Sauce. Yum.

  1. Love the revisions! I've never seen them side by side like that but the clarity difference is huge! Looks like you had a lovely trip. Your pictures are beautiful! Have a great week!

    1. There is a big difference. I prefer the older versions myself (since I saw them theater that way) but it is nice seeing the picture cleaned up. I'm enjoying the pics, hopefully everyone doesn't get too sick of them yet! Ha ha. Have a super week too!

  2. Great photos! And I loved Hello from the Gillespies. Enjoy!

Murder in the Paperback Parlor looks tempting. Have a great week!

  3. OMG I love that little restaurant (I am assuming that was what it is) I love those cute little places and OMG THOSE COVERS! I need to check out Michael Murphy just based on the covers, I can't wait to see what you think of them. I really like books set in the 20's or 30's :)

Have a great week, Greg! Summer really needs to slow down just a little bit.

    1. It's actually a coffee shop/ curio type store, think they might have ice cream too (don't remember). It's a neat little place, and outside are all these handmade rockers and chairs- the rockers go back and forth on wheels and are super comfortable, you could sit there all day and watch the world go by. Way cool!

  4. The flotilla looks fabulous. We had a 'Paddle Out For Whales' day here last weekend where kayaks, paddleboarders paddle in the waters to promote 'save the whales' organisations.

You've reminded me that I need to see if the second Season of The 100 is available here yet. I bought S1 and think I'll buy S2 as well, but wondering if I first need a bit of a recap... hmmm...

    1. I think so too. I had no idea of that, even though we go up there in the summer I had not heard of it until I saw it on youtube. Pretty neat!

I'll be watching the star wars videos with my son when he wakes up :) Thanks for sharing

  7. The up north photos are cute and love the restaurantish one. I haven't read Monica McInerney but have one on my shelf to read to try her out. Hope you enjoy the one you have.

  8. Yeah, the end of summer approaches, but I'm not ready for fall yet! Still in Spain, though, so I'm taking full advantage of the sun, the sea, the scenery and my daughter :)
Your up north pics are awesome! Thanks for sharing, Greg.
I hope you'll enjoy your new reads :)
Have a fantastic week and happy reading.

    1. It's more of a shop and they have coffee and stuff inside... a neat place. Great place to watch all the traffic in town as they have a ton of sliding rockers

I didn't realize McInerney was Aussie at first, but after Liane Moriarty I'm ready to try another! And I've had my eyes on that book for a while, mainly for the cover (LOL) but also because it sound interesting.

  11. LOVE the covers of the Michael Murphy books. I have a collection of advertising time from that time period and they share a lot of design elements. The pic of the "lake" looks much the same as the ocean view does here!

  12. I love that last pic, looks like a great place to chill out with a book for a little while! I enjoyed Hello From the Gillespies so I hope you do too. And The Adventuress looks fab, I need to check that one out.

    1. It's a great place to relax and watch people go by. It would be a great place for a book but there's quite a bit of traffic, it's on a busy corner and lots of foot traffic.

  13. THANK YOU for the Star Wars fix!!! Love it! Although I'm not sure I like the idea of changing more than the "resolution" and color, know what I mean?? It's kind of like how you can't find the theatrical version of Blade Runner anymore, only the director's cut :( Yes, I know I'm weird...

You received some really great books this week! Perfect for the lazy HOT days left of summer :D I'm going to check a couple of those out!

  14. I love the cover of Hello from the Gillespies. We own a copy at my library and I'll have to check it out sometime.

I meant to watch those Star Wars videos when I saw them posted elsewhere but forgot. Thanks for sharing! I hope we get a new trailer for The Force Awakens soon.

    1. I've always liked that cover, and pretty much want to read it for that alone (although the premise does intrigue me, I must say). It's one of those book would look good on a coffee table or whatever. :)

  16. Oh wow the revisions are impressive when you look at them side by side. I still remember seeing Star Wars in the back of my Dad's station wagon as a kid. Yep, we use to go to the Drive-In on weekends. My mom would bring dinner in coolers. Memories.

  17. The pictures of north look great. It is nice to have a place you can get away to.

That was cool watching the revisions made to the movies but I didn't like some of the CGI. I really can't wait to see the new movie!

I love those covers and I would want them too. I hope you have a great week!

    1. It is. I love it up there- if you guys get sick of pictures let me know. I'll probably post em for a while throughout the summer. I'm with you on the CGI- I pretty much hate the additions, even though the picture is clearer. I'd like the original to be released

  18. A Sliver of Stardust looks and sounds good! My mom has been de-cluttering her house for a couple of weeks now, which mostly means that she's giving my sister and me things that we should have taken long ago. Anyway, she dropped off two big crates of books this morning. Near the top, I found my old Choose-Your-Own-Adventures! I had to laugh and think of you! I'll be walking down memory lane with those pretty soon. Enjoy your week!

    1. Awesome! How neat to find a stash like that. I only have the one (newer one), no longer have the old ones. Bummer. I may acquire a few of the older ones though, if I can, just to review or revisit. Some of the older ones are still available.

      Have a great weekend!

  19. Wow, there's a huge difference in clarity in those Star Wars comparisons. Yikes. Now I have an urge to rewatch the movies.

As usual, your new books all look great; a couple are on my wish list.

Have a great week and enjoy the weather!

    1. Yes, there is. I haven't watched those in ages. I do prefer the older versions though- if I could have the newer clarity without all the extraneous added in stuff, that would be good. :)

      Hope your week is good.

  22. Caught Read Handed looks so good. Your list of books all look good.

Our weather has been nice, too, but it's so hard to believe we are already in August. Where does the time go?

    Have a great week!

  23. I love seeing your area events and attractions additions. They inspired pics and a video on my Sunday Post this week. I am looking forward to your thoughts on A Sliver of Stardust; the GR synopsis is wonderful. Also, thanks for the Star Wars revisions/comparisons videos, I am also going show them to my son. Have a wonderful week. :)

  27. I was just over at Mystica's blog talking about Up North Michigan. :) Is that Fishtown? We usually rent a house near Honor every year and visit Fishtown while we are up there - especially the book store.

My husband is loving The 100! He is considering Humans as well, although he hasn't started it yet.

The Incident on the Bridge looks pretty good! I will have to check out your review!

    1. Yes, that's Fishtown! The store on the corner as you come in- they have all the rockers out front. Love that store! :)

I've been binging the 100 and I like it too- Clarke is awesome. Some of the characters I hate but it keeps me watching. :) And Humans I just discovered- I haven't started it either. soon hopefully!

  28. I watched the first video of the SW revisions and had to stop because some of that CG is just cringe worthy and for some reason I never realized until it became obvious. I never notice when I'm watching the VHS version or the new blu-ray...well unless it's that's blue singing thing, then I definitely notice. :P

To answer your question about Heir to Jedi on my blog, I really enjoyed it! It's not the best of the newer books, but it was a lot of fun and it made me enjoy Luke as a character a bit more.

  29. You MUST start watching Humans. It's very well-written and well-acted and prompts some good questions about how intelligent we would want our (future) robots to be. The only bad thing is now I want a human-like robot of my own.
