You know, it doesn't matter what the date is on the calendar- once we hit September I consider it fall. Right? I mean, you have school, football, pumpkins. So I'm in fall mode around here, as I mentioned last week. What is your favorite thing about fall (or spring, if you're in the southern climes)? For me, it has to be the feeling of the season- that indefinable something that makes me want to pick different books, long for a harvest moon, or sip a pumpkin spice latte. Mostly the PSL. You know, priorities.
The read-a-long for Record of a Spaceborn Few has begun with LaLa in the Library, Jo's Book Blog and A Dance With Books. Also I'm catching up on my tags- I did the Mystery Blogger Award last week and this week will be a Sunshine Award.

Movies That Suck took a vacation last week and may be back this week- I'm still figuring out what to watch next so keep the suggestions coming (yes Karen I'm trying to ignore yours) and I reviewed Rogue Protocol this past week. I'll have a review coming up for The Opposite of Here this week. And... since I haven't shared any writing in a while, I have new flash fiction on the way.
Song of the week

What I like about Fall is you can run more comfortably in the cool weather and the leaves. The colors are so beautiful and I like the sound of walking through a pile of them. Also pumpkin spice everything. Come on! :) 🎃
ReplyDeleteRight! I love skipping through the leaves. :) And PSL!
DeleteI enjoyed Rogue Protocol just as much as the other books. Poor Murderbot is going to have a nervous breakdown! Yeah I like autumn too-the fire is back on inside our house, a slight chill in the air at night, no more heatwave, a desire to read scary books and wintery themed books just around the corner, the colour of the leaves before they fall...
ReplyDeleteRight, poor Murderbot. :) And yeah- I like how you described that, my sentiments exactly- the windows are open here and it's cool out...
DeleteI love the cooler temperatures and yeah, definitely want to get a PSL soon!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had one yet!
DeleteI loved Fish! Lol. Yes, I can definitely feel fall in the air, even though it's still pretty warm here. I'm looking forward to my first PSL!😁
ReplyDeleteI did too! And I am as well ha ha.
DeleteThe only signs of fall around her are pumpkin spiced everything in the supermarket, which is perfectly fine with me, because I LOVE pumpkin stuff.
ReplyDeleteI do too, and they have taken over the world in recent years- which, again, I don't mind. :)
DeleteFall in the south is very gradual. I notice the slant of the sun is lower in the sky and leaves are starting to fall a little bit. Pecans are starting to grow and the humidity should let up soon. I hope. LOL Have a great week, Greg.
ReplyDeleteYeah I imagine the humidity calming down must feel pretty good- and overdue! Usually Sept can still be hot here but it's cool today!
DeleteBahahahaha! I will never quit trying lol I feel like I suffered and so should you.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretending it's fall and getting my PSL even though it's 90 degrees and we have a threat of a hurricane coming next week.
Karen @ For What It's Worth
Right? I am tempted...
DeleteWow, 90? Although we had 85 the other day, so we're not totally out of it yet- but today windows are open and there's a cool breeze...
And since I'm banned for rec'ing *the movie that shall not be named* how about horror movies in time for Halloween?
DeleteLike maybe a mix of old Vincent Price type ones and newer ones??
It's gonna be 107 today so I'm not feeling Fall just yet. lol
ReplyDeleteGahhh!!
DeleteI totally consider it fall once it is September! All the same reasons as you - school, pumpkin and football. I love that fall is sweater weather. I love me a cardigan!! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe football last night was nippy out- love fall! You too Grace!!
DeleteOy, what I like about fall is nothing because it is depressing. Actually. That's a lie, I do like the cooler weather, but it is still depressing because winter is gross. The librarian comic made me chuckle because it's pretty true bwhahah.
ReplyDeleteWhat, no autumn for you? You're right tho, it does get kinda depressing, especially in like November? And winter I like maybe occasionally but lasts WAY too long...
DeleteDamn, I took way too long looking at Fish and trying to figure out what was going in those panels - but then I got it and thought it was pretty sweet :D
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I know, I did too. Then I fell down a rabbit hold of webcomics and poof there was an hour gone!
DeleteI love those first two small town images. I was thinking when I was reading in Spaceborn Few about when people were living in one place they would be homesick for another, and vice versa. I was thinking how when I live in the country I get homesick for the city and vice versa. Ha ha. The last image of the cat on the roof I'm going to steal for a Facebook cover. 👍✨
ReplyDeleteI consider September "late summer" because around here it's apple time and fresh corn on the cob is still a thing: cool nights with fire pits. We can still get some of the hottest days of the year here in September, so not so fallish. Ha ha. There is a special slant to the afternoon sun, too. I love reading in it. I won't look at a pumpkin before October. XD
Have a wonderful new week. I am really enjoying the discussions in our RoaSF reading group! 🌞
I do too, especially if you click and see the big version- I love the vibrant colors. That second one almost has a faery tale look? And yes I agree. :)
DeleteYou know we get hot weather in Sept too so I might be getting a little carried away, but it just feels like fall in some ways- must be the decor and schools. But corn on the cob... mmm. Yes to fire pits!
I'm enjoying it too- I think we're off to a great start!
To me, fall is the time for an extra crispness in the air and the color of the leaves. Pumpkin things, too, from latte to pie.
ReplyDeleteThe Opposite of Here looks good. You have some frightening images today...LOL.
Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
Same here. Pumpkin stuff, cider and doughnuts.
DeleteThe Opposite was pretty good, a tad far fetched maybe in a spot or two but not bad!
Omg what is Trailer Park Fae because that is so intriguing me to and the title alone reminds me of characters from the mercy thompson series
ReplyDeleteRight? Just that TITLE.
DeleteI don't even know when the seasons start and end. I thought September was fall lol. It does have that feeling. I mean, not the weather here, it's still hot, but it definitely feels like summertime has ended. And the stores have started selling cinnamon brooms! I saw them today. I didn't buy one though. I should've.
ReplyDeleteSo did you read Trailer Park Fae, or is it on your list to read soon?
I've seen that little mermaid comic before, it's so cute!
Sept is fall to me to me, even though we still get hot weather. I was in Orlando once in Sept and roasted my $%^ off so yeah... but it still feels like fall to me. :) Yes you should get the cinnamon brooms!
DeleteI just started Trailer Park Fae, and am kind of excited to see where it goes!
I love that little comic.
I got the first Wells book, but yikes Greg those novellas are 9.99. Yes, September signifies Fall here too and damn if the weather is acting like it lows in the 50's and highs in the 60's or low 70's. The rain however needs to go. So wet and dark all the dang time! Hope your week is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI know! I can't believe how much they're charging for novellas!! I love Martha Wells but man... I wanted hard copies for my shelves but I'm holding off...
DeleteI still haven't hauled Record of a Spaceborn Few, but after Closed and Common Orbit, I am a little worried. That one was just a little bit disappointing for me. How's this one so far?
ReplyDeleteI thought A Closed and Common Orbit was a little disappointing too- I mean I liked the story- but I was looking for something more like the Wayfarers. So yeah... and Record is its own thing as well, with a few links to the older story but blazing its own trail. It's almost like an anthology series, with each books going its own way. I liked it though=- very introspective, very sedate- a thought provoking book!
DeleteMy favorite thing about fall is that the weather is still nice, but the nights are really cool. And I love the back-to-school stuff :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll find the kind of books you want to read now.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookworms
Exactly. Give me all the cool nights! And thanks Lexxie- have a super week!
DeleteI watched Jaws 2 this week and that was pretty awful so I'm going to throw Jaws 2, 3, or 4 out there as potential candidates for Movies That Suck.
ReplyDeleteIs it a general consensus that we all know PSL isn't that good but we all like it anyway because it gets us into the autumn mood?
Oh my gosh I've never seen Jaws 2- or any of the other ones. They would probably be awesome candidates!
DeletePSL is funny- sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't- depends on the place??
Fish comic is lovely 😊
ReplyDeleteI like fall bevbeca it leads to my favorite season. Winter. Ha. And also Starbucks will have Pumpkin Spice Latte and I'm just crazy about it.
I loved it!
DeleteI like PSL at certain places so yeah... I think Starbucks' is great. Mmm fall... and yay for another person who appreciates winter. :)
You're right September feels like that but I still went to the beach yesterday. Still warm ebough
ReplyDeleteYeah, I still think it's fall, if it's September! I love the images of Mystique! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays and Cover Spotlight!
All I can tell you is that here in NC, pumpkins have appeared everywhere, along with pumpkin spice, but there's no cool weather to be seen. Give me a snowdrop or something.(lol) Hope your weekend is fun! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteI wish we had fall here, lol :P Every year I see fall pics and I am so jealous. Fall look lovely and all that Pumpkin picking and stuff seems like interesting tradition.
ReplyDeleteHowever, weather here is at least cooler.
Have a lovely week :)
My wrap-up: https://flippingthruthepages.com/2018/09/weekly-wrap-up-1/
I'm loving the pictures this week Greg! Especially the top two...
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. September hits and it's autumn. You can stick 'official' dates. :)
The last three days has been awesome fall like weather but we are suppose to get 80 again this week. I just want the cold. I had m Pumpkin Spice this week but just coffee and my husband got me k-cup pumpkin coffee. I love pumpkin and apple everything season. :) I also think Fall starts in September *high five*
ReplyDeleteLove the mermaid comic! :)
Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading! :)
Nope! I am holding on to summer as long as I can! :) Though I will admit to eating some pumpkin spice things...lol. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Stormi
Week in Review
Bwahahaha OK I love the graphics with the siren and BDSM LOL Now fall for me is a smell (wet earth, mushrooms, crisp clean air), colors (orange, yellow, feary reds and the sof golden glow of the sun) and yes lazy days reading under the blanket!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the music and the graphics Greg! Happy Sunday ;-) Sophie @bewareofthereader
I'm heading back to the US next week and I sure hope that fall has settled in by the time I'm back. I've been hearing about how hot it has been and that is not what I want LOL! I love the fall! It's such a cozy time of the year.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your new books this week! Happy reading!
I do love fall...although I hate winter and am always thinking it is right around the corner (not to be Debbie Downer, sheesh). I do love the cooler air, though, and pumpkins, and yummy candles. I'm def ready for some football, too. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteAwww, cute merpeople comic. Got me curious about Record of a Spaceborn Few.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of pumpkins or pumpkin spice anything. For me it's all apple cider and donuts! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. September = fall around here. I am feeling the autumn love! It's my most favorite time of the year. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the girl and all the cats! Lol.
I love fall. I haven't actually seen a fall season in like 10 years, so I tend to go a little overboard with decorating the interior of the house. I actually put up my fall and Halloween decorations a couple weeks ago. I couldn't even wait until Sept rolled around to pull everything out. LoL
ReplyDeleteFall is definitely my season. I love everything about it—the weather, the leaves, Halloween, pumpkin everything. I’ll look for your review of The Opposite of Here. I’m curious about that one. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
That pulp cover looks like she has an extra boob...hahaha! I love the cold weather so I'm excited to see cooler temps. It hasn't happened much yet, but I'm psyched for it!
ReplyDeleteMovies that suck: Ed Wood. I thought that movie was TERRIBLE! My brother and I still threaten each other with being forced to watch it again.
I hope you are enjoying your readalong. So many people love that series that I'm sure you'll love this installment too. I love everything about fall - pumpkin everything, college and pro football and cooler temps. GO FALL!
ReplyDeleteThe weather was so nice today! The rain left and it stay in the 60's today. It was nice to be out so the dogs got 2 walks :) Fall = Marching Band in my world. In other words - the busiest time of year! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, in my mind it's fall as soon as I flip the calendar over to September. Doesn't matter how hot it still is outside. I love pretty much everything about fall. The changing leaves, the cooler temps, and of course the PSL. Oh and apple cider donuts! There's an orchard that my mom, sister, and I visit every fall and they serve the most amazing donuts in their shop.
ReplyDeleteFall is so beautiful and a great season, but I hate that it means Winter is coming since I hate the cold. Enjoy it though :)
ReplyDeleteSurvive the Night by Danielle Vega, sounds like it would be a great read for October. Looking forward to seeing what you thought about it.
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of Fall, kind of like wet leaves, my favorite season. I do enjoy those PSL... only from Dutch Bros. :)
You're right, the feeling that it's fall is wonderful. And I have to add as a knitter wool for cooler weather is a marriage made in heaven. I love the cold since I'm a city girl and grew up in fog and cold, ocean breezes.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm going to check out that challenge! I LOVE SF!!
ReplyDeleteYou always have such GREAT weird pics!! And those cartoons about the mermaid turning the human into a merman, and the librarian dialogue, are TERRIFIC!!
LOVE that Boston song, too!!
Thanks for sharing all of these goodies!! You always have the BEST "Sunday Post" posts!! <3 :)
Like you I like a change of season. Just this morning I was looking out at my peach/nectarine tree and the blossom on it and the birds singing and I thought "I love this life".
ReplyDeleteI love fall! Yay for cooler temperatures. Now if it would only stop raining!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the comics this week. Exploration Vehicle made me smile.
My favourite thing about autumn is definitely the shift in the landscape. I live in the Welsh valleys, so the lush greens slowly turn, the leaves begin to fall, and there is this freshness (oddly enough) when out walking.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, and a lovely week to you!
I'm apparently in the minority, but I don't like pumpkin spiced anything. Fall leaves turning color against a bright blue sky is my favorite thing. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteWe actually have fall weather today! Granted it's probably due to hurricanes and tropical storms but it's so fun to have temperatures that aren't in the 90s for a few days. When I went out for a run this morning I didn't want to die until the last half. It was all very exciting. I'm with Kathy above with not liking anything pumpkin spice but I'm all about some apple cider and hot chocolate. You've got me curious about what Karen's suggestion is! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI'm struck by how similar the first two scenes are that you've posted. I'm guessing the modern day version is close to an actual location. The fantasy version is inspired by that same view. My weekly updates
ReplyDeleteI agree, after the holiday weekend, summer is over and fall is here. :-( I never get enough summer!!!!!Enjoy your new books.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Minus the fact that fall is peak hurricane season for the East Coast, I watching the leaves change, the cooler temps because I get to pull out all of my favorite sweaters, and it's the kickoff of the holiday season.
ReplyDeletehahahahahah the BSDM thingy made me laugh! I even forgot what I was going to comment so wait,... gotta go red again.. ok I'm back ...
ReplyDeleteschool, football, pumpkins... yes summer is over! *sobs loudly* My favorite fall thingy is that New England's creepiness factor triples in the fall with Halloween and all that AND I LOVE CREEPY! YES!
I need to start the Trailer Park Fae books. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's still in the 90s here, so definitely not fall...even though everyone around me seems to think so. I'm soaking up the heat and sun, maybe I can store the warmth for winter, lol. Rain is coming. *Looks off into the distance like Eddard Stark*
ReplyDeleteThe BDSM picture had me laughing!
Hope you are having a good week. lol. I love the comic about BDSM. lol. And I always love seeing the images you add to the post too. Thank you!
