Sunday Post #261

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

It's September and I feel like I'm in fall mode now- the time of year for bonfires, pumpkins, crisp air. Swirling leaves and bare branches scratching at the sky. My reading mood changes as well in the autumn- I suddenly feel more like urban fantasy and edgier stuff. I've already been reading a lot of psychological thrillers. The whole seasonal reading thing has been discussed many times, but for me- yeah my moods definitely change with the seasons.

So what am I looking for? Well, something to go with the cooler air and cloudy skies. I want to sit with a steaming mug in front of a window, looking out over skittering leaves. Reading about rituals in the woods, a creeping sense of doom, friends banding together to save their own- anything with an edge, a story that makes you want to turn a light on. Just to make sure. Stranger Things in book form? I'm off to a good start too, I think. Both Contagion and the Murderbot novella Rogue Protocol were gripping, edge-of-your-seat reads, and I'm looking to add some urban fantasy to the mix as well.

This week Movies That Suck featured Sharknado! I'm taking a break this week and reviewing Rogue Protocol instead, but Movies That Suck will be back. And as always suggestions are encouraged! I've also been watching Wentworth and loving it.

  9. It definitely is feeling like fall suddenly. My reading moods change with the season sometimes. I have so many anticipated upcoming releases in the next few months and review copies lined up it's hard to figure out what my mood wants. Maybe some sci-fi or a good cozy and there's a contemporary romance releasing in October with a very autumn cover that I can't wait to read.

Oh that forest inn sure has a nice and cozy feel! Nice artwork you found for this post! Have a great week!

  12. I think I must be a seasonal reader, too. I gravitate toward certain genres and styles of writing different seasons. Mysteries are my big autumn favs.

Love the pics and the inspiration they can cause. :)

    Have a good week, Greg!

  13. I love the Fairy House and the Forest Inn. Enjoy your books and Netflix...as you know, I'm playing with my new Oasis, and trying to decide if I'm going to keep some books on Pippa...until she dies. LOL.

  14. I am ready for fall too. I may open the windows this evening when it cools down. It's cool enough in the evenings now. Your fall book choices sound so good! I find myself leaning in that direction too. There is something about The Forest House that has such a cozy feel to it. But I think Into the Woods is my favorite. I hope you have a great week, Greg!

  16. It has gotten hot again around my house so I am still in full summer mode. I do know that cooler weather will be here soon though. Trailer Park Fae looks great and I just picked up Rogue Protocol from my library. Have a great week!

    1. Yeah I know some places are still pretty hot. And in fact we're getting some 80's days here too, but I think the worst is over. Although I will miss the nice weather, no doubt. I hope you enjoy Rogue!

  17. We got really hot again, but today has been very cool and fallish. I loved it. I'm happy you have cooled down, too. I'm not going to hold my breath, though, because we have been known to get some of our hottest temps in September.

There's lots of ambient to listen to today. ✨

I like the round whimsical house. It would make a terrific doll house.

Have a wonderful new week and enjoy the holiday.

  19. I love ASMR channels like that! I found one that has a ton of Harry Potter ambient noise and have fallen asleep to the Shell Cottage and the Library videos so many times. I need to get my review up of the first Murderbot so I can dive into the next one!
I'm the only person on Earth holding out for more Summer. I really hate being cold, I also hate constant rain. Being cold makes me tired all the time and rain makes me mopey, so I'm generally just a walking bag of blah until about April-ish, lol!!

    1. Yes those videos are awesome- I love the ambient mixes. I found one for the Green Dragon Inn and I was all yes please! And ooh how did you like Murderbot- can't wait to see your thoughts!

And I get that, I might be pining for cooler temps but you know soon I'll be complaining about that! And yeah rain depressing. I mean I like a nice storm or an occasional rainy day but a lot of it = no.

  22. I'm such a weird one when it comes to books. Stranger Things in book form I'm almost 100% certain I wouldn't read. Stranger Things on Netflix? Clear 8 hours, I'm binging the entire season.

I'm definitely a mood reader. My reading rate takes a significant upswing Autumn/Winter. I'm in total agreement about the hot beverage, looking out the window at the leaves and rain and just sinking into another world. :)

    1. Ha! It would have to be a certain book. I wouldn't want an exact clone, but maybe something that sorta captures the atmosphere...

  23. I'm definitely in the mood for scarier stories as well. It's hard to believe October is just around the corner😁

  24. I'm totally feeling ready for Autumn too. Roll on pumpkin spice lattes (ew!) and creepy books. As you want Stranger Things in book form, remind me to get you to try a Stephen King book before the year is out. I know he's known as a horror writer but he writes across so many genres like fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, suspense. I need to give you a recommended list for what you're in the mood for.

I love that forest house so much but I know I'm too unfit to be climbing up and down ladders to get into bed. Might have to settle for the fairy house. Or just Tatooine. Someone take me to Tatooine.

I'm not an ASMR person but I could legit sit there listening to the Star Wars sounds for hours.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ooh what do you recommend for something suspenseful/ eerie with a smattering of supernatural, but not full-on horror? I feel like some of his more atmospheric stuff might be my thing!

I loved the forest house but yes the ladders may get a bit old. Still I love that little reading nook at the top- I could get used to that. :) The forest inn though is the one I really like- it just seems so idyllic, like a sanctuary deep in the woods. And Tatooine- yes for some reason some of those settlements have their own kind of cozy to them!

I love some of the Star Wars ambience! This one I just discovered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlO1K4KQm8k of Yoda's hut, and oddly enough the Death Star ambience one I kinda like too.

  25. There are at least two scary book challenges in September and October. I think one is Readers Imbibing Peril and the other is a Frankenstein challenge. Maybe there are others. I hope you find one your enjoy!

  26. I'm in the mood for all things autumn, too. I have got to read some psychological thrillers before the year is up! I haven't been reading any at all this year. :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. My mood for the seasons change too. I actually plan to do a new feature about it. I tried it in the summer but everything fell apart but I plan to do it for fall. :) I am also looking forward to the change in weather.

I love the fairy houses, those are just too cute.

Have a great wee, Greg, Happy Reading!

PS Sharknado RULES!!!! You need to watch them all.

  28. September means Pumpkin Spice at our house!!! Our leaves are all covering the ground already, I think we have an early Fall this year which is fine by me. I enjoy the cooler temps and all the covers. Have a great weekend.

  35. That's interesting about the fall season bringing a change in your reading mood - I'm used to holidays doing that to me, but not seasons. at least not that I'm aware of...

I'm so not ready for fall. I like hot weather and I do not want to be cold. I'm already using the heater in my car in the morning! Yes, I get cold super easy.

    Have a great week Greg!

  36. Fall has me reading more horror and thrillers. Like I need a reason for that. LOL I;m starting on my 31 Days Of Thrills And Chillers review feature for October and actually already getting to some Christmas books. I'm trying to be more organized this year.

  38. I do really like reading mysteries and the like during the fall. Not that I don't always read those type of books, but they do seem extra fitting for this time of the year. And fall is my favorite season so I'm glad we are almost there!

  42. Although fall is my least favourite season I do tend to go for more thrillers and mysteries during this time of year. I’m not big on horror but there’s something very cozy about cold weather and a good mystery novel. I hope you get around to reading some great, creepy reads this fall!

  53. You paint a cozy picture of Fall and now I can't wait for Summer to end. We are already planning our annual trip to Apple Hill and I can't wait for all the Fall treats. I want to read some spooky or thrillers, so I'll check out what you've read. I hope you have a great week!

  54. I love fall, and like you, I definitely am influenced by the seasons.I am so ready for all the fall things, including cooler weather! It was so gross over here this weekend. I am ready to read creepy, scary books, mysteries, cozy books. It's my favorite time of the year!

Trailer Park Fae looks awesome! And I love that little fairy house! So cute.

All your Star Wars art that you post makes me think of when I used to play Star Wars Galaxies nonstop. I spent a lot of time on Tatooine. Lol.

  55. How was Contagion? I love sci-fi books, especially ones about disease! Here is my weekly update!

  56. I'm in fall mode as well, although the weather isn't cooperating. Now we suddenly have blistering hot sunny days in the high 90s. Wonder where those days have been the past three months, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I am definitely a mood reader too, although it doesn't really depend on the season - though I do read more chick-lit in the summer and thrillers in the winder.

Last night we had a storm and it was amazing to read by the window with a mug of tea. Autumn seems like the best season for reading in my opinion! The ambiance is just perfect!

    Have a great week!

  61. I love fall! I'm so ready for the weather change. Sometimes my reading moods shift with the season, but mostly they just change whenever. I've been into a lot of psychological thrillers lately, too. And some fantasy. We'll see how long that keeps up.
