Sunday Post #249

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

It's been non-stop hot around here and after all the complaining I did this past spring about the temps, I'm not going to complain now! Well, maybe a little. What would be a Sunday Post without a little complaining? But one thing I can't complain about is the reading- it's been going pretty well. I still have a ton of new releases I want to get to but I've got all summer for that, right? We'll see where the rest of the summer goes, I guess.

This past week I reviewed another episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series, and also posted a discussion on- Do You Search For Books? That was kind of heartfelt since I love searching for books, whether it's a certain edition, cover or whatever. And Movies That Suck this week was Ex Machina- which did not suck- seriously this feature may need a name change! This week- the Murder on the Orient Express movie that recently came out.

Upcoming reviews include Blackfish City, The Lies They Tell and Strange New World.

My story prompt for the week

She stepped closer to the Gate and could hear it humming, the power rolling off it in waves, like heat distortion on hot pavement. Occasionally little flashes of electricity would spark from it, and she could see images of other places flickering within. The bridge didn't extend all the way to the shimmering portal, but she would have to find a way to reach it if she were to leave this place, and leave she must. All around her rose the pillars, reminders of the thriving city that had once been here, before the waves took it. Other structures broke the surface as well, as if to take one last breath before being submerged.

  2. Is it just me, or does spring get shorter every year? Winter lingers on, and then all of a sudden, it's 90 outside!

    1. Yes, I wanna know where spring went. 60's, 70's- it's like we skip right over those temps and go for the 80's/ 90's! I need a transition!!

  8. Yes, Ex Machine! Loving the beach summer scenes. Although not related other than by title, I do plan to watch Adrift ;-)

  9. I love the art this week! My son got all excited over one and said it looked like Legend of Zelda WindWaker and when we looked close it was. I'm slightly concerned that he knows his video game scenes that well! I did see that Mulhern has a new series out and I really need to track down a copy. She's one of my favorites. Have a great week!

    1. Yay for Zelda ha ha- and yes he does seem to know his scenes. :) Kids have that though! I'm excited about Mulhern's new series and I am looking forward to trying soon.

  10. You are certainly in a beachy mood this week! Your story prompt image reminds me of Monument Valley! I love those game apps. 😊

It's been a bit chilly here in the evenings and at night and I have been loving it! I wish I could send you some chill. ⛅

I love the black cat on the pier image. Have a wonderful week. 🌞

  12. I’m glad the reading is going well for you. It seems like the more books I acquire, the slower I read. I love all the beach pictures. I hope you have a good week!

  13. Ha, complaining about the heat is just part of summer, just like bitching about cold and snow is part of winter. It's human to complain :) Glad that you are having a good reading time though! Did you get the next Extinction Trials book? And I am very curious about ALL your upcoming reviews, since they're all books I am interested in reading.

Love all the beach pictures too, you're making me want to go to the beach!

  14. I hear ya about the heat but I'm sure loving an excuse to cast everything aside and jump in the poo. LOL I am so lazy and way behind on writing reviews. Great new books and I love the pics of blue skies and seas. Have a great weekend, Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Man, all those beachy pictures are making me think of mermaids. Granted I'm reading two different books about mermaids right now, so I've kind of got mermaids on the brain as it is.

Have a great weekend. - Katie

  16. I think it's just human nature to complain. It's therapeutic, haha. But as long as I've got AC, I'm good with the heat! Glad to hear reading is going so well lately :-)

  17. It's cold here, but sunny for now. Love all the beach pictures this week. I enjoyed the Orient Express movie, I hope you do, too.

  18. Your weekly images always make me want to be transported to another world, but your pics today are on another level of divine entirely. I love the tropics, I can't look at images of sandy white beaches and turquoise oceans without wanting to be there :)

  19. Great images, as usual. Thanks for the heads-up on Julie Mulhern's new series.

I seem to recall you watched Marcella on Netflix...I binge-watched Season II today.

  20. Loving all the summer photos! Unfortunately, it's just the start of the rainy season here in my country. There's actually a storm right now, and the rains are getting really heavy. :( Anyway, I hope your week goes well!

  25. I just don't like heat. I like 60 - 75. That's perfect. It got hot here too. I had to walk home from the train station the other day (almost 2 miles), and the heat was getting to me. Is that book Adrift related to the movie?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yay for Summertime, Summertime, Sum-Sum-Summertime! Love all the beachy images and even the rain was nice to look at, lol.

You have some intense book titles listed. I'm going to check them out online now and find out more.

Also enjoyed your writing prompt. I'd like to do something like that-- I know there are plenty of places online to participate. Do you have a fave site for it?

Have a good week reading in the sun! (and don't complain about the heat, you were complaining about the cold a couple of months ago!!)

    ReplyDelete
  27. You already know I'm no fan of hot weather, so my heart goes out to you. Can't wait to see your thoughts on Murder on the Orient Express. Raymond Chandler takes me way back for sure. Hugs and happy Sunday! RO

  28. I went to the beach yesterday it was nice! Have a lovel sunday and a great read! happy reading!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, trying not to complain to much about the heat as I like it better than being cold. I just wish we had more warm weather instead of jumping right into hot.

Maybe call your movie post: At the Drive In and then you can feature a different type of movie, ones that suck, ones that surprised your, ones you really love, favorite classics, etc. You could make/or have one made a button that looks like a drive in screen. :)

I am curious about your thoughts on The Lies They Tell as I have that one and need to get to it.

    Have a great week!

  30. Oh my gosh, all of those illustrations are really making me want a beach day! I grew up on an island off the coast of Maine, but this is my third summer living away from the coast. I miss the ocean so much! I was just telling my fiancé last night that I need a beach day! :)

  31. Weather has been just all over the place the last few days. Super cool to really hot and today it's raining and blah! I don't know if this is what summer is going to be. The weather can't seem to figure itself out.

Maybe change the name to Movies that might suck! :) It's like you are going to determine if it sucks but it might not! lol

The extinction trials looks good and I need to look into that book more. I think I want to read it :)

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading! ox

  32. I love the beach pictures! Strange New World looks like a good read. I can't wait to see your review.

The weather here has been hot, then beautiful high 60s/low 70s, then hot again. Rain, too, but I don't mind.

    Have a great week, Greg!

  33. It's been hot here. 100 and over. Summer is in full swing and I hate the summer. I miss the beach. We don't have a beach here in Las Vegas but it would be nice right about now.

  34. The Underwater Ballroom Society sounds very interesting, I've read a good review (of Tammy's, I think). Enjoy! I can see you even picked this week's pulp cover based on that one :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Your pics have been longing for the beach!! I do know what you mean about the weather - first too cold, and now, so Hot! But I'll take hot over cold any day. I love the heat and sun, it just doesn't like me - with my sun allergy. Still not complaining though :) Have a great week Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm loving the temps that we're experiencing right now but could do without the rainy weekends we keep having. It's such a tease to have it sunny all week while I'm stuck at the office but then the skies open up and rain down on me as soon as I'm free. So rude, Mother Nature, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Our temperatures are starting to warm up (and stay) as well. We've had so many ups and downs in recent weeks. I'm ready for some consistency. I am glad you reading is going well. You've read some great sounding books. I can't wait to read your thoughts on your new ones as well! I hope you have a great week, Greg. All your pictures this weekend look so peaceful . . . I could use some peace. LOL

  52. Now I really want to go to the beach! Haha! Normally, I don't like going to the beach in the summer--too hot. We do try to go once a year in February-March when the weather is nice and just spend a few days on the beach. The water is usually too cold to swim in, but the beaches are never crowded and there are a ton of seashells to collect!

  55. Are you listening to 10 hours of rain to try and mentally escape the heat? :D It has actually been cooler than usual here (80s-90s), so no complaining here! I should watch Murder on the Orient before your post.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ooooh, it feels like being back on the beach. I love it. :D

Have been meaning to watch Ex Machina for years. Will have to finally sit down and do it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I feel ya on the heat. It's been reaching 90 down here and is *so* humid and muggy. I just go from one air-conditioned location to another. :) Love all the beachy pics!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Did you like Strange new World? I recently got a couple books by the author so was wondering! I've only read one book by her and that was so long ago, I don't remember much!

  60. We have had some hot days here too! The other day I was like ugh so hot! Then I remembered how long it took us to get any warm weather..lol. (I still don't like it really hot though lol)

I am looking forward to your thoughts on the Murder on the Orient Express movie. I might have to watch it again!
