Sunday Post #166

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This week started off with beautiful weather, 50's and sunny. As the week wore on it cooled off, but it's been a great fall week. Although the last two days have been blustery and cold it's supposed to get nicer again this weekend. The highlight of the week for me was volunteering at a marching band invitational this past weekend- it was a blast! 42 bands from all across the state came to perform and it ran all day- I was pretty tired by the end but it was awesome. Lots of talent. This is the biggest invitational in the state and I would definitely do it again.

This was a so-so reading week. I did get through Fear The Drowning Deep. My review will be up on Nov. 3rd but I can say read it if you like atmospheric tales and creatures from the sea. I had to order a physical copy of The Wanderers so my review of that is coming but it's a week or two away yet. Otherwise- I'm just reading steadily and trying to watch a little Netflix. I kept getting distracted on the Internet this week *cough Pinterest cough* so that may explain some of the extras below again.

Also, SciFi Month starts on Nov. 1st and all month there will be a ton of SF related goodness. You can find all the details here and sign up there as well. There's also a Google doc with all the scheduled posts.

  2. I snowed twice here last week and the second time about a half to 3/4 of an inch stuck! I am not ready for it to be winter already! It is pretty nice today, but tomorrow it is back to the chill. The marching band invitational sounds like it was a perfect activity for fall. Thanks again for posting all of the wonderful artwork. Have a wonderful week. :)

  5. It's so funny you shared that Lake Placid clip because this week there was a report that someone saw a crocodile 'take' a cow from the banks of the river. Not many people believed it though.

PS. I now have Netflix, so let the fun begin!!!

    1. Wow, really? Interesting. Although hopefully the crocodile wasn't quite as big as the movie one!

  6. It's been noticeably chillier here too, though not actually cold. Just enough that I haven't had to run my AC except when I'm using the oven.

The marching band thing sounds like fun!

I have no idea what Lake Placid is, and after watching that clip I have even less idea, haha. Why is she feeding cows to the crocodile?

I'm still waiting for that Wanderers review, haha, glad to see it'll finally be coming soon!

    1. The invitational was great, it was awesome to hear all the bands and just a really good time.

Lake Placid is basically a crappy movie ha ha about a killer monster croc, and in that scene this lady on the lake is FEEDING it for some reason. I don't recall why. It's campy fun, think Sharknado quality (okay maybe a little better than Sharknado).

Wanderers? I know right- I'm terrible at getting that going. It will happen though. :):)

  7. The band event sounds like fun. It's been in the mid to high 80s here. Loving it while it lasts:) I loved that scene. Bette White rocks! The things she said!

  19. OMG, Lake Placid. That movie is ridiculous and exactly the sort of cornball movie that I go for. The more unrealistic, the more that I am reminded that there is nothing real about it. Those gators...bahahaha.
I am glad that you are enjoying some cooler weather, and am also feeling a little jealous. We don't really get much of a change of seasons here, and the temperature hasn't dropped yet.

  29. I loved being in marching band as a teen (though our marching band never did very well in competition) so the invitational sounds like a fun event to be part of. I've seen some televised competitions with some really amazing talent.

The weather was cooler here too but yesterday was in the 60s. I was bummed that I was sick and unable to go out and enjoy it. Today we have thunderstorms.

Hope you have a great week!

  34. We had snow three or four days this week, but thankfully it didn't stick around long. Put snow brushes and ice scrapers in the cars, the patio furniture in the shed... can't ignore the fact the water is almost here any longer. Ugh!

My brother in PA spends a lot of time volunteering with my nephew's marching band and loves it. They travel to competition all over and I had no idea how much work goes into simply moving the kids and equipment around! They refer to the dads as the "Pit Pops" ;-)
