Well my reading rebounded a bit this week. And this week seemed to fly by, too. I discovered a new show- Black Spot- which I am now addicted to and I've been binging. It's so atmospheric. It's a French show on Netflix and is like a mix of dark crime and supernatural stuff. I'm still enjoying The 100 this season too but I'm way behind on Big Little Lies now. *sigh*

Let's see- what else? I'm thinking of doing some writing again. I've been on a hiatus I guess (unintended) but as I was looking over some old flash fiction I was feeling inspired again. This piece in particular got me thinking maybe it was time to revisit some ideas I was interested in, but never got to.

One last thing- many of you know of my love for digital art. One of my favorite artists is Artur Rosa, and he was recently interviewed in Digital Art magazine. That issue also happens to have a focus on future oceans. There's some neat stuff, including concept art for a proposed city at sea. If you love the ocean, and/ or want to see an interview with Artur you can check that out here. Amazing visuals. You can see more of the concept here

NEW ARRIVAL/ UPCOMING REVIEWS:

Last Ones Left Alive

BOOKISH LINKS

Speaking of future cities and Earth- friendly ideas, here's another concept of a floating city- the Green Float. Developed by the Japanese company that proposed the Ocean City idea I mentioned above. Some of this is pretty far in the future stuff but it's fascinating to look at, and I wish more people (especially here in the US) would dream big about stuff like this.

And I had to share some pulp covers I saw this week.

  1. I'd never heard of Black Spot until mow!!!

Thanks for the heads up about Last Ones Alive. That looks good and I have added it to my Goodreads TBR.

I have NOT played that Firewatch game, but I want to! What do I need to play it? A computer? An XBox? Something else? I know absolutely nothing about games. Like, zero.

Have you seen the trailer for HBO/BBC's adaptation of Phillip Pullman's Dark Materials? It looks awesome. Just another reason to be excited for the autumn!

I also need to catch up on The 100... Are Clarke and Bellamy a thing yet? They need to be a thing!

  22. The nightstand book has me a little confused. Did they do math all over campus! lol
I haven't heard of Black Spot, I will have to take a look. Digital Art is fantastic, I used to work with someone that did it and she was really good. Something I wish I could do but just don't have that much talent. Some blow me away with how amazing they are.

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  23. Wow the Green Float city looks really interesting! I would think in places like Japan and China where cities are super populated this would be necessary.

  24. LOL @ Girls Who Don’t Read Are Skanks, I had to search for it so I could read the premise but unfortunately it seems it’s a fake.

  29. Ooh, I haven't played Firewatch, but that gameplay vid makes it look fun! I love visually different and cool art styles in games as well. The first screen there actually reminded me of the No Man's Sky, which was another visually stunning game...too bad the gameplay itself was so repetitive!

  35. Black Spot? Now I have to check it out. We're at least 2 weeks behind on Big Little Lies -- Streep is so fantastic! I love Spaceport Concept this week. And laughed at the pulp fiction titles!

    ReplyDelete
  36. That first, pulp fiction cover's title made me LOL. Will you ever try to publish your writing? The only shows I've binged on Netflix were The Good Witch (a Hallmark show I love), family comedies like Marlon and One Day at a Time, The Office (we need to finish), and Queer Eye. I did watch Anne of Green Gables also as well as the first two seasons of Stranger Things (the third my tween got freaked out during episode two so we stopped). Of Anne, I had refused at first to watch b/c I loved the Canadian version so much but was so curious as the kids had watched that it grew on me.

  37. I can't decide if Girls Who Don't Read Are Skanks is awful or fabulous 😂 Can't wait to hear what you thought about The Girl in Red! And I really need to start (well, properly start) Black Spot. Tonight for sure, which is maybe what I've been saying for a week but shhh hah.

  38. I love scifi, futuristic oceans! It's such a fun concept. One of the worlds in my current series is a tropical island paradise. I need save some of the images you linked to for inspiration.

  42. I'm way behind on Big Little Lies and The 100. I don't even know why. I keep sitting down and saying that I'm going to watch an episode or two but then get distracted and forget about them. Girls Who Don't Read are Skanks! I think I laugh way too hard at that, lol!
