Sunday Post #301

So the big news this week was a soft lockdown at the local high school. Some kid came in with body armor- no weapon- and hung out in the library until the cops arrived. They were there within minutes, and no one was in danger. No idea why he decided to come to school with, you know, body armor on, but sounds like a cry for help to me. Apparently another student let him in since it's all secured. Needless to say not a great way to end the school year.

In other news I've been watching The Rain season 2 and Riverdale. Well, to be accurate, I've watched very little of either, but I've started both. I actually haven't read or watched much of anything this week. On the blog I did a Song Lyrics post on Monday. This week coming up I'll have a Song Lyrics post and...  we'll see!

Other than that- not a lot. It was a beautiful week. And Big Little Lies S2 is Sunday. .

  1. Wow that's scary about the kid who come in with body armor because you never know if they might have a gun or anything. Here in Belgium we never had to deal with that kinda stuff at schools. At least not when I was in high school but at least nothing bad happened.

    How are you liking Riverdale?

  2. What is the Lady Tiefling Loot thing you do for each of these? It sounds like some sort of game thing...

  3. Sorry to hear about the school lock down, but at least the police and administration are on alert. The sign of our times, sigh.😥

  4. I've only seen a couple of S3 Riverdale but now it's all available I'll be getting my binge on soon.

The stuff with lock downs in high schools is scary... I can't imagine. Completely sucks that that's how the they're rounding off the school year (and that anyone has to deal with that stuff at anytime).

  5. Yay for BLL season 2! I was dubious since there isn't a book to base it on but the fact that Meryl Streep is in it sold me.

  6. Wow, that's pretty crazy about the school lock down. Better safe than sorry though. And yay, wasn't Limited Wish awesome?

  7. That does sound like a cry for help. Glad there was no violence, though. Pretty scary. Big Little Lies 2! I can't wait. Although I haven't renewed my HBO subscription yet.

  8. Yikes, that's unfortunate about the school incident and I'm sure scary for everyone involved, but that's good that there was no weapon and no one hurt. You always find so much cyberpunk art, and I love it, and I really want to find a cyberpunk game that I would like cuz I need more of that dystopian neon look in my life.

  9. Wow, coming to school in full body armor and no weapon does sound like he was trying to get attention and cry out for help. I'm glad he didn't have a weapon, and nobody was hurt! I watched Season 1 of the Rain, but didn't know Season 2 was out. I'll have to check it out. I haven't watched Riverdale, but definitely want to watch it. I've added it to my Watch List. Have a great week Greg!

  10. Yes, I will agree with your Movies That Suck choice this time! I hated that Flash Gordon movie. Ha! 😆

The Maltese Falcon, I have never read the book, but I love the movie. 👍✨

I love the dystopic concept of cities built above encroaching waters. But I think I've mentioned this before; is that realistically feasible because the bottoms of the buildings weren't meant to be under water. I wonder if anyone has studied this? 🗽💦

You are finding art on Twitter, now? Who knew! 🎨

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  11. I'm really curious about the Mark Lawrence series too! Happy reading and have a nice weekend

  12. I'm glad the lockdown at the local school didn't involve an actual threat, and I hope the young man gets whatever help he needs.

I like those Oswaldo Kato images, with their bright colors -- especially the bird one. Is it a thunderbird, do you think? I checked him out on Twitter and Instagram; he has quite a diversity of styles.

Have a good week, and enjoy your new books!

  13. I hope that the student that came to school with the body armor gets some help. Sounds like a scary situation. Love all of the art this week, Greg. I hope you have a great week!

  14. Scary! So glad that it ended the way it did, and that the student didn't have a weapon. Hopefully he gets the help that he needs. I am looking forward to Big Little Lies Season 2 too!!

This weather has been gorgeous. It's hard to stay inside.

  15. Glad the lockdown didn't involve anything worse that the kid with body armour, still scary though. So Flash Gordon is such a horrible movie so I can see it on your Movies that Suck! My dad use to like to watch it...lol.

Hope you have a great week!

  16. Teenagers are weird. They don't know how to get help without doing things that are incomprehensible to adults. Hopefully he gets help!

  17. OMG Greg! Parents must have been so frightened! But yes why did he do it and yes about it probably being a cry for help! Have a great Sunday (cop less LOL)

  18. Hope someone was able to help the student. :( That's sad. Glad no one was hurt.

Nice collection of art images. The first Pinterest one (with the girl holding a pistol) reminds me of the 2nd Mass Effect game.

  19. Hmm, sounds like a strange incident at the school. I'm glad it didn't turn out badly but they might need to review security a bit!

  20. Well I'm glad nothing bad happened at the school. I wonder what he was thinking to do that though.

  21. That roller coaster picture is the Jet Star from the Jersey Shore. I used to love that ride it was one of my favorites and must have ridden it every summer since I was a little girl. Still sad that it is gone! :(

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  22. Love the art! It seems to have been that sort of week... not a lot of reading or watching but jut trying. haha I hope next week is better for you. Thank goodness no one was hurt at the school.

  23. Have a great week!
A floating island would be so scary!

  24. Oh boy.. some people are just so confused! I'm glad nobody got hurt.
I loved the first season of the rain.. but I'm not sure I'm going to watch the second season.
    Have a great week Greg.

  25. That is so scary I'm glad that everyone was okay. I watched a bit of Riverdale, but dropped it when it was going in a direction that was a little too dark and twisty for me. Have a great week Greg! Here is my post-https://paigesofbook.blogspot.com/2019/06/the-sunday-post-happy-tony-awards-day.html

  26. I don't care - hard or soft, lock downs are scary. I remember sitting under a desk for almost an hour back when I was teaching, and the kids realizing it was real, because they never did drills during lunch periods.

  27. That's crazy about the kid coming to school in body armor. I am glad it it wasn't anything more serious than that. You just never know these days. I hope you are enjoying your current reads. We went to see Aladdin today. I am hoping to get in some decent reading time this evening. Have a great week!

  28. That does sound like a cry for help and I hope they get him some. Scary! I watched Riverdale and had a blast. I plan to catch up on The Rain this coming week.

  29. Omg a lockdown!? That is so scary! So glad everyone is safe though.

You know, the biggest problem with you posting these on a Friday is that you didn't have the most relevant weekend news. Like 3%! And BELIZA for goodness sake, tbh I am never going to be over Beliza.

Also I applaud any use of a Zach McGowan gif.

  30. I heard about that incident on the news! My son is sharing his HBO with me to get caught up on GoT and I plan to watch Big Little Lies too. Have a great week, hope you are drying out in your area.

  31. Oh boy, that is definitely not a great way to end the school year. Glad things turned out okay though. I hope you enjoy your reading and watching this week!

  32. I hope that kid is regretting that decision, and gets the help he needs. I couldn’t imagine teaching in the US where the probability of a school shooter incident seems to be so high. I’ll never think it’s appropriate that children have access to guns.

    Stay safe Greg!

    ReplyDelete
  33. That's terrifying. My son starts school this fall, and I'm freaking out. One, my baby is going to school for the first time. Two, schools aren't the safest places these days. Guns keep appearing in the hands of children, and they think it's a good idea to take them to schools and do unspeakable acts of violence.

I know you mentioned wanted to homeschool in your comment earlier, but damn it's hard not to do it just as a safety precaution. I would never forgive myself if something happened to one of my kids. I would feel better if there were no guns, but people think it's a good idea to give them to teachers, too. Why? So kids can stumble across them and shoot themselves or someone else on accident? As you can see, this is something I've thought about a lot, and it really worries me.

I'm glad everything ended up okay at the school. I can only begin to imagine what you were feeling when you found out.

  35. Does sound like that kid needs help - hope he finds compassion and support soon. I won't be watching Big Little Lies this season as I would have to purchase the channel and not that desperate to watch it.

  36. I will be starting Big Little Lies this week. I wanted to read the book before I watched it, but I don't think that is gonna happen any time soon. Have a great week ahead.

  39. Situations like that are so scary, and what make teaching - or sending my baby off to school - scary too. I really don't like that Eleanor and I are in different schools for this reason - and also because our schedules do not match up either. I am glad to hear that no one was hurt and it was not necessary for further action. I hope this young person gets the help he needs.

  42. Oh no. That is a terrible way to end the school year, I am glad that everyone is okay and that it ended well. We had a scare at one of our local high schools recently when a kid came in with a rifle and the football coach tackled him down. It scared me even though my kids are in elementary miles away. Too close for comfort! Enjoy the summer.

  44. Body armor definitely sounds like a cry for help to me. Glad nothing actually came of the incident but it definitely makes you wonder what was going through his head.

I need to get back to watching Riverdale. I'm waiting for the latest season to be put up on Netflix.
