Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.
This week is Top Ten Cozy or Wintry Reads. I went back and forth and decided to go with wintry settings, or books set in a cold environment. For some reason I love reading a good dystopian or psychological thriller set in the frozen north or in Antarctica. Why does terror go better with the cold?
A dystopian set in the Yukon and one of my favorite reads of 2018.
Another one set in the far Canadian north.
This is an Ice Age setting.
Hey a guy can dream, right?
Okay at least this one is available and much of the action takes place in the North.
A floating city in the Arctic Circle
HAHA, I almost put Winds of Winter on mine too, and then I realized it wasn't out yet!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, City of the Lost! I should've put that on my list. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read many of these books, but they do look like they'd be ideal for winter. My TTT
ReplyDeleteI've not a fan of every story in the 'True Love' collection, but I do like a couple of them (and feel I should re-read again sometime), and they make it worth owning. :)
ReplyDeleteI mean, if you add the threat of freezing to death in the snow, everything is scarier...because you feel more trapped or something. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog. - Katie
ReplyDeleteThe Winter Mysteries has a look of the Classic Crime Series.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha Winds of Winter. I read an article that he was holing himself up in a cabin until he finished that book.
ReplyDeleteWolves of Winter sounds interesting. Love dystopians. My True Love Gave to Me made my list this week, although I haven't finished it yet.
I did think of including the winds of winter in my list too, but figured it was wishful thinking as it's never going to be published.
ReplyDeleteHere's My Wintery Books to Curl Up With
I'm dreaming of The Winds of Winter too! Maybe this year...*sigh* and I've still to read the second part of A Dance With Dragons! Zodiac Station is on my list to read this month.
ReplyDeleteNice picks! I tend to forget what season most of my books occur is. Usually because it's not key to the story, but now after visiting so many blogs I am realizing all the ones I forgot about! Lol.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Great list! I really enjoyed My True Love Gave to Me, and Obsidian and Stars sounds interesting - I'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI like a good wintery setting. City of the Lost I have as an audio and really need to get to it.
ReplyDeleteI love some of these covers, they are gorgeous, especially Obsidian and Stars!
ReplyDeleteOoo… I'm intrigued by The Wolves of Winter. Love all the covers of these books.
ReplyDeleteBlackfish City is high on the list of books I just didn't get to this year. Maybe I can catch up next year:-)
ReplyDeleteI've only read the first two on your list, but I agree -- they have very atmospheric, wintry settings! THIS FALLEN PREY, the third book in the Rockton series, is on my list today.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Thrillers and mysteries are kind of more exciting in the winter. I guess it just evokes danger, the dark and the bad weather.

This would be a perfect time to read The Wolves of Winter. I can't believe I didn't put it on my list since I've already read it!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Winds of Winter! I think all the GoT books are nice to read while it is cold outside and there is a fire roaring in the fireplace inside.
ReplyDeleteI eyed My True Love Gave to Me when it first came out but didn't get around to picking it up. It does seem like a perfect winter read to cozy up with. Great list!
ReplyDeleteCold = being miserable for me so it totally fits into the terror/thriller genre really well for me. Like it's already horrible outside and now you have to deal with crazy people, that's the ultimate hell.
ReplyDeleteWe'll get Winds of Winter eventually!
I think it's a really difficult topic
ReplyDeleteNice list! My True Love Gave to Me sounds sweet. I'll have to check it out. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteGood choice on your list. I've only read The Wolves of Winter, but I thought it was a good one.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Blackfish City was set in the Arctic Circle. I am still intrigued by this book. ❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄
ReplyDeleteI bought the ebook for $1.99 yesterday. 👍✨
DeleteI'm so intrigued by many of these titles. Great picks as always, especially the ones I haven't heard of because it gives me a nudge to pick them up somewhere in the future. I really adore reading George R.R. Martin in the winter. There's just a quality to his books that is so very fitting with this time of the year. And, of course, My True Love Gave to Me is basically a must-read in terms of fluffy YA. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteI usually like to binge Christmas novellas this time of year but I haven't been reading much at all.

The Wolves of Winter! Every time I see that book I want to read it and then I forget about it and the cycles go on and on. I think I'll go ahead and see if my library has it before I forget again. Great list, I think these fit the topic well. :)
ReplyDeleteThe more lists I visit, the more books I realize I could have listed. I liked My True Love Gave to Me. There were a few amazing shorts in that book.
ReplyDeleteIf only GRRM would wrap things up! I've been waiting for Winds for so long I've started to forget where the story left off. :(
ReplyDeleteCity of the Lost is a great winter read. I can't wait to read the new book in that series.
ReplyDeleteThe Wolves of Winter is on my TBR. I don't think I read too many books with cold settings!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! And yes, a guy can dream about reading The Winds of Winter. This gal is dreaming about that too, lol.
ReplyDeleteLol, yes, at least it's available for you to read! And you can definitely dream about reading The Winds of Winter - eventually it'll come out and your dream will come true (one of those dreams that do come true).
ReplyDeleteHA Winds of Winter cracked me up. Definitely agree with Wolves of Winter. Not so much Blackfish City because uh, it made me want to drown myself in an ice lake or something. Oooh MTLGTM is a good one too- so many wintry stories! One of these days I am going to read Obsidian and Stars, too. There better be more mammoths though.
ReplyDeleteDystopia in the Yukon? *adds book to TBR* (This is entirely my first time hearing about it but I am an easy sell, I guess? Especially hearing that it's one of your top books for this year!)
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike! I went with the same theme, and glad to see we both had City of the Lost on our lists. Great book.

I actually am the opposite -- cold settings make me feel coold, and I hate the cold :) so i tend to avoid them, mostly. *shrugs* I'm weird Greg, WEIRD./
ReplyDeleteI saw The Wolves of Winter at a thrift shop and nabbed it. I remember it being one of your favorites. I hope to read it soon!
ReplyDeleteI love your list but mostly... Winds of Winter. I think we are all dreaming of that one! The Wolves of Winter sounds good! I'm gonna add that to the TBR. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was the Armstrong series when I was this topic. The Wolves of Winter looks good.
ReplyDeleteThese are some of the great picks though I haven't read any of the these :D
ReplyDeleteBasically the entire ASOIAF series is full of cold, wintry vibes! And based on the title, I have high expectations for WInds of Winter as well!
ReplyDeleteThe Wolves of Winter looks interesting, but they all look like great picks!
ReplyDeleteHaha funny with Winds of Winter. Like we might get it the winter of 2025. ;) :P
ReplyDeleteASOIAF make great wintery reads. Thanks for sharing. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're so right that terror goes perfectly with a cold setting! And hah, Winds of Winter :D
ReplyDeleteLOL cold and terror do go well together. I still have Blackfish City on my tbr pile. Great cover!
