End of the Year Book Tag

I was tagged by JJ at This Dark Material for the End of the Year Book tag (thanks JJ!!!) and since we're indeed almost at the end of 2018, this is the perfect opportunity to take a look back, reflect on another year of reading, and carry forth with plans for 2019. So without further ado, let's take a peek.

1) Are there any books you started this year you need to finish?

Nothing I've actually started although there are a few I thought I had to have, and then I didn't read them right away or even in some cases buy them right away. Here's a few that I surprisingly have let slide.

Lies You Never Told MeWildcard (Warcross, #2)The Consuming Fire (The Interdependency, #2)

2) Do you have an autumnal book to transition to the end of the year?

Not really, I don't think. I do read a bit seasonally- more suspenseful, darker stuff in autumn, and I even occasionally look for holiday based mysteries around this time of year, but it mostly depends on my mood- I'm such a mood reader.

3) Is there a new release you're still waiting for?

Watching You

4) What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

The Gone WorldWatching You

5) Is there a book that you think could still shock you and become your favorite?

I don't think so? The year's almost over and with holiday happenings I won't have a lot of reading time- so I don't think that will happen.

6) Have you already made reading plans for 2019?

Other than a short list of books I want to read early in the year, not really! I'm not really doing any challenges again this year- I went challenge free in 2018 and liked it, it was nice not to have keep track of all that, and just read what I wanted.

  1. I'm with you on going into 2019 challenge free. I joined a few during the year but if I start the year with a stack, I always get too overwhelmed.

  2. I want to read some books by Lisa Jewell; so many love her books. I'll also be mostly challenge-free in 2019 except for fall RIP which I've done for 10 years and a few informal ones in my brain - like reading 4 classics or seasonal themed books in summer. Happy 2019 Greg.

  3. I think I've just seen the Lisa Jewell book pop up on Netgalley.

  4. I like the look of Watching You. I might snag a copy at some point!

  5. I always read more mysteries thrillers in the fall and ghost stories but truth be told, I read those all year around as well LOL!

  6. I already have about 25 books to read for next year. I hope to reach my year end goal of 100 books. I didn't reach it this year but I almost made it.

  7. I think challenges are so stressful! Especially when I forget about them and then remember at the end of the year. Oops😁

  8. I neeeeed to finish Crooked Kingdom. I started it in January and only made it about 40 pages. I'm not sure why I can't get into it.

I only do the Goodreads challenge and I start at 25 or 50 and then inch my way up. Challenges just stress me out.

  9. I went challenge free in 2018 and thought it was really nice, too. But I think I might sign up for a TBR Backlist Reading Challenge next year and tackle some of those unread books sitting on my shelves. Happy New Year!

  11. I saw Watching You when I was at Target yesterday and I was sooo tempted to pick it up. But I'm not a fan of reading hardcovers so I'll probably end up downloading it.

  12. Yeah, I am a huge fan of a challenge free reading month as well. If I feel like I need a challenge I join a short readathon but then when that's over it is all freeing again. I hope you will be able to have a good reading year next year x

  13. You have to read Wildcard, because it's a finale book. You gotta know how it ends, and me and you both need to get to Lies.

  14. I like being challenge free too, but I am attempting Beat the Backlist, which is basically just a list of books I need to force myself to read.

  15. I don't do challenges either, aside from Goodreads (says the person who literally *hosts* a challenge, but shhh). And even with Goodreads, I let random.org pick the goal. It picked 9 this year so... talk about not a challenge hahah.

I need to read Lies You Never Told Me and Warcross too. Ugh. Not enough time! Hope that you get to the ones you're looking forward to sooN!

  16. I did my own reading challenge in an effort to clean out my TBR. I just do better with a goal. Happy how it helped me cut, cut cut! Happy New Year Greg! 🎉

  17. Are you reading Watching You currently? I have high hopes for it. It's supposed to be really good. I always have a book picked out as my first book of the year. I sometimes pick out beach reads in summer as well as scarier reads during autumn. But, I'm very much a mood reader although I like to keep lists of books I want to read each month. As I'm planning I get hyped up to read them as the new month grows nearer but I might just abandon them to read whatever I want.

I'm doing something different with my challenges this year that'l be less stressful. I just have to watch out for the Goodreads challenges I go for. I can get really competitive and race through books just because.

    Happy New Year!

  19. I have ODed in challenges this year. I added the Read Harder challenge after I dud my post. 😂

  20. I had the chance to get Wildcard from my library, but I let it slide by me for some reason :(

  21. Why do we all do that? We buy books like, "YES I NEED THIS NOW," and then we don't actually read them for months or years lol.

  22. I feel the same about Wildcard, I absolutely needed to have it and I still haven't read it. Not even sure I will in the near future.
I'm a mood reader as well and that can drive all my reading plans in disarray.
